Well......justl loaded and using and love it! One annoying glitche so far, is that attempting to refer tracks to wav so I can import to studio one daw, starts midway through the song instead of beginning. I notice that there is a timeline in the menu with various points of start. This is probably the cause, but nowhere can I find how to disable the time line. Or is the cause perhaps some other reason? Manual and online help is no help. All suggestions are appreciated

Larry
How are you rendering your wav files? I've not seen where it starts in the middle of the song. It always starts at the beginning for me. And I'm not sure what you mean by the time line, unless you are somehow trying to use the ACW feature (which is used to figure out chords from WAV files, not to render WAV files).

If you could post some screen shots, that would help. Just select "Switch to Full Reply Screen", and you can post up to five jpg images per post.
Hi John

Thanks for the reply. Its the white rectangular space to the right of the save buttons.....right below the transport buttons. It has several vertical lines, blue or green, which I believe are points where you can start the song. In my case it wants to start it in the middle. I've exported other songs without issue but this one has me stumped. Thanks again

Larry

I'll check it out after work this evening and let you know something.
Thanks john
Figured out how to remove markers in timeline.....but discovered this is not why song won't start at beginning when rendering to wav. It does render correctly "once in awhile". But most often it starts in the middle of the song. It has to be a setting but still can't find it. Thanks for any help

Larry,

The timeline you mention doesn't control anything. It's only a condensed display of the chordsheet and the number of choruses so that a user has some indication of whereabouts in the song they are at any point in time.

In relation to rendering...

Have you been playing around with the Soundtrack Generator (under "Melody" on the main menu)? I've just been investigating this, and it seems that it can impact on normal behaviour.... I'm presently trying to work out how to control that.

Also.... when you click to render the file to WAV, have you tried selecting the "Defaults" button in the render dialogue window before rendering?

Regards,
Noel
Thanks for the response Noel........no I have not tried the defaults but will do as you suggest. It's strange because it was working fine, that is, a song with 6 tracks that rendered to wav for daw import. The only setting I changed was auto to stereo, and another time to mono. .....one wav per track and all else default.

It's the same settings I've used successfully before.

Larry
Larry, just double-checking: you use Windows, not a Mac, correct?
Yes...win 10, BB 2017 ultrapluspak hard drive
Great. And since you're new, are you updated to build 464? See the Support tab, above.
Hi Matt

I just checked and confirmed it is build 459. I downloaded 464, but several attempts to install just crashes the system. I will keep trying an report back. Thanks again

Larry
Larry,

BIAB has to be closed to install the update.

Also, I always right-click on my update files and select "Run as administrator".

Is your BIAB installed to your computer's hard drive or do you run it from the USB drive?

Noel

What he said.
Larry -

I apologize for not getting back to you on this (although Matt and Noel are offering fine help) after saying I would.

I have unfortunately been spending my non-work hours helping my wife deal with shingles (and I don't mean the kind on your roof). She's been a lot of pain, so BIAB took a big back seat.
John

Sorry to hear. I'll keep a good thought. Thank you for getting back

Noel and Matt

Where are the files stored......I looked in my download folder and they are not there though 66mb did download somewhere, and yes I do have bb on a USB pdrive

Larry
Larry,

I take it from your comment that you're downloading the update from within BIAB.

I've only tried this once. I prefer to download from the Support site at...

http://www.pgmusic.com/support_windowsupdates.htm

...and then manually run the installation file.

From what I can tell, it looks like the files are under \bb\data\updates.

Noel
All

I successfully updated to 464 and and so far the rendering to wav portion seems to be working.

A new issue has surfaced though......now there are no files after rendering. I'm sure this is just a setting again, but tracing my steps I don't see it. I did notice that the midi rendering that precedes the wav render yields a file with 0K size.....could be this.

Anyway thanks for all your help.........off on the hunt. In spite of these burps I really do like this program.
It is a great tool for writing

Larry,

I don't know of any midi rendering that precedes audio rendering. Could you elaborate a little more on what you see that leads you to this conclusion. I'd like to give what you are doing a test run.

If I recall correctly, you are using the below option to render am I right?

Noel

Hi Noel

Yes, I've tried using both the method you describe above, as well as picking from the main "audio and render to wav" menu.

One issue I'm having is the files are not saved where I direct it to go........but they do show up under \bb which seems to be where it wants to put them. Ok, I'll deal with that later. Here's the sequence

Select wav save as, or audio, render to wav
Choose (where I want to save files) in audio file menu
One wav file per track
Auto
(Re)-Render to WAV file

Here’s what happens

After a couple of seconds a message comes up saying Rendering of MIDI is completed. (btw.....not using MIDI at all)
File saved is named C:\bb\.......etc\my file name. FileSize is 0K

I say ok and it starts rendering
Sometimes it doesn’t start At beginning ….rather in the middle somewhere

I admit to being a novice with this program, but it seems I get different results with every attempt. Manual and online no solution

Anyway, thanks for taking a look

Larry
Larry,

In attempting to solve your issue, I write a couple of posts. This should help reduce the confusion factor.

Here is POST #1.

Firstly, I need to make sure that your MIDI and audio drivers are suitably set.

1. Select "Options | Preferences".

2. Click on the "MIDI Driver" button. (It's on the top row of buttons and 5th from the left.)

Now... as shown on the image below...

3. Select "Microsoft GS Wavetable Synth" (#1 on image).

4. Where the image shows 'Cakewalk TTS-1' in #2 and #5, click on both these buttons and select Coyote WT from the drop down menus.

5. Make sure that checkboxes #3 and #4 are selected (as shown).

6. On button #7, check that MME is selected as the audio driver. If it is not, click on the button and set it. (MME is always the best audio driver to use when solving problems.)

END OF FIRST POST

For the moment, I'll use the original way of rendering.

1. Use the toggle shortcut CTRL+T to return to the standard-screen mode (if you are in full-screen mode).

2. Select Audio (#1 on image) and then "Render..." (#2).

3. If you have a look at #3 on the image, this indicates the path where the WAV file will be saved.

4. To change this path, select #4 and navigate to an alternative directory. A filename also needs to be entered before "Save" is selected.

5. Activate the options I've shown as #5 (these are probably already selected).

6. Leave #6 (Delay at end) set to 2 secs.

7. De-activate the "Include ACID info" option (#7).

8. Double-check that the path shown in #3 is correct.

9. Press button #8 to start the rendering process.

How did this go?

Regards,
Noel

The only snag before testing is that I dont have Coyote installed (this is 2017 UltraPlus) and see no way to install it. Following the instructions on installing from the help menu does not work. Is there an install executable and where is it located?

Larry
Larry,

When you received your USB drive, there is a Setup.EXE file on the USB drive that needs to be run.

That will offer different install options and will also install Coyote WT. This needs to be run even if you run the program entirely from the USB drive (simply choose the minimum install). It's around 20 MB if my memory is accurate. What this does is to put the files on the computer that BIAB and Windows needs as well as write necessary information to the registry.

I suspect that not having Coyote WT installed is part of the present problem because BIAB needs a VST synth for rendering even when Realtracks are being rendered.

If you have already run setup.exe....

On my Audiophile USB drive, the BIAB/RB install file that would contain Coyote WT is on p:\PG Music\Installers

Noel

I've had this bb for about 10 days now and having multiple issues. I decided to install it totally on my pc which is pretty fast to see if it performs better and perhaps alleviates the problems. I am installing now, will test ( using all of your helpful directions ) and report back. Maybe a fresh install will do the trick.

I have a pretty serious system (all the latest technology), and was quite surprised at how sluggish the program is using the USB drive.

Thank you for sticking with me through this learning curve.

One thing you might try is, once your malware checker has examined the PG Music USB drive, tell the malware scanner to exclude that drive.

Another quick thought: a few months into version 2017, PG Music released an update that remarkably sped up the loading of the program. However, the program has to be run several times to take effect.
Thanks Matt ....will do
Larry,

When you get BIAB/RB installed, set the start-up shortcuts to "Run As Administrator".

This is done by right-clicking on the shortcut, selecting "Properties" from the menu and, under the 'Compatibilit' tab, selecting "Run as administrator".

Noel

Thanks Noel. Made a rookie mistake and attempted to install 122gb BB on a 120gb drive. Of course I didn't realize it till the end of the install.

Larry
Larry,

I feel for you. That's very frustrating. You could install the program with everything except the Realtracks and Realdrums and then point BIAB to those on the USB drive. It's the Realtracks that take up most of that 122 GB.

Looking forward to hearing from you that success has come your way!

Noel

Oh my god guys.......thank you so much for your experience and advice. I successfully loaded BB on my system and configured using your directions. The thing works perfectly. I was concerned that using Coyote would substitute those ancient synth sounds for the Real Tracks, which is after all what we bought this package for. But somehow even using CWT as the midi synth engine connects with the RTs and renders in a much shorter time.

All is well in BB land so far and again, thank you for sticking with me.

Regards,
Larry
Larry,

I'm glad that everything is working for you. Now you can really have fun!

For the record, Realtracks and Realdrums are audio based. Because of this, they not impacted by any software synthesiser (softsynth). It's just that a softsynth needs to be installed so that rendering can work properly. It's how BIAB works.

Enjoy making music!

All the best,
Noel
