Only very recently came across 'Realtracks Soloist Preview' toggle to switch between demos of tracks playing ‘solo’ or ‘soloist with band’ versions. Think it a combination of small toggle icon and somewhat ancient eyes!

Problem I have is that not all the solo versions will play – perhaps one in five don’t. All the ‘soloist with band’ ones are fine. As far as I can see there are two .wma files for each demo - ‘solo’ and ‘band’, and these are present in bb/demos/realtrack – demos. All the ‘solo’ versions play back perfectly if selected from this directory.

Looking back over previous threads there was a similar problem, albeit with none of the demos playing, and this was cured by changing audio driver to NME. Have tried all three available drivers, but has made no difference.

Wonder if someone could please check if their setup behaves in the same way to see if it is peculiar to mine or a genuine ‘bug’? Some of those affected are: 704 and 705 flute, 706 and 707 guitar, 2140, 2142, 2148, 2782 and 2783 sax.

SSD drive. Windows 10, BIAB version 520. June 2018 Realtracks update installed.
Hi Allan,

I tried all the RTs you listed above and they all worked for me as both 'Solo' and 'Band'.

Just to clarify... I take it that you are using the 'Solo' button in Realtrack picker (#1 on image below).

Also, try activting 'Use the internet' (#2) to see if that makes a difference.

Regards,
Noel

Noel,

Many thanks for this. Wasn't using the 'Realtracks Picker' approach you mentioned, but instead right-clicked in Soloist track in mixer, then 'Select Realtracks' and 'Select Best Soloist Realtracks', which brings up a somewhat different selection layout to the one you attached, including the not-totally-obvious solo / band toggle icon.

However, even when using 'Realtracks Picker' approach I still have exactly the same problem! 'Use Internet' is on. Could understand it if none of the Realtrack solos worked, but only having trouble with some is decidedly odd.

Tried disconnecting anti-virus software in case this was causing problems. Next moves will be to set bb to run from 'C' drive in case the present arrangement of it running from different one might somehow be causing trouble, although all BIAB preferences are set correctly for current drive. Then will rename a file that does solo correctly to that of one that doesn't in case something strange going on with file structure, albeit probably somewhat unlikely. Other than that, any inspired ideas would be very welcome!
Problem solved, although cause was unexpected.

Discovered that the demos that wouldn't play were all mono. Converting them to stereo then allowed them to be heard. It made little sense as to why mono tracks prepared by PG wouldn't play back on BIAB, so had a look at various computer audio settings. Discovered that Sound Blaster 'Z' sound card control panel settings had changed from 'Stereo' to '5.1 Surround' - probably during last windows upgrade - and it was this causing the trouble.

Quite why a 5.1 surround system is seemingly incapable of replaying a mono signal I'm not sure, unless it normally plays via centre-front speaker, which, of course, I don't have.
