Hi all
Your thoughts on this would be appreciated.
Basically I would like to generate a Vocal Harmony midi chord control track from the chords entered in the cord sheet, this will be used to control the VH unit in my Yamaha CVP connected as my midi device . or any external vh unit that can read midi chords from a specific channel.

As said the CVP 405 will be connected to my BIAB pc as my synth via midi for the midi tracks And any midi style parts.
As well the BIAB pc audio will be connected to my Aux inputs on the CVP to hear any realtracks content from the sgu / mgu.
At this point I can sing with a mc connected to the CVP mic input, and the whole lot can be recorded / saved in Stereo as a wav file via the CVP usb audio recorder.

Now the reason for the above ask the CVP has a very good internal VH unit, in vocoder mode it simply works on the mic input on your voice, but you can have a midi chord or note guide track, (this can be at low or zero volume) you need this obviously if you want to use any sort of pitch correction VH types..
You can make it track a RH or LH chord played in live on the CVP as BIAB plays in its parts. But that require someone to sit and play in time with the Chord sheet as held chords.

As there are times when a non playing Vocalist may use this set up as a Karaoke system to sing over BIAB backing tracks you can see that a midi guide track is required.
So apart from recoding held chords at zero volume on say the Solo track to follow the chord sheet changes. Is there any way of doing this automatically.
Just thought I would trow this one out there.
Best regards
Mike
This is from the BIAB 2018 User Manual (and I believe others on the forum already do this):

Quote:
Outputting MIDI to an External Device

Some external music hardware devices require chords played in root position to drive them in real time. An example of this is the Vocalist. It will let you sing into a microphone and harmonize your voice according to the chords that are input to the device.

Band-in-a-Box has the capability of outputting a separate channel with the chords in root position to support such external devices automatically.

There are also settings such as complexity of chords, output channel, velocity, and note range. It will also drive “Real time Arrangers” like the Roland RA series. The best way to accomplish this is to access the Options | Preferences and select the OutputCh button. You will then be given a window like this:

Click on the Vocalist button if you have such a device connected to your MIDI system. Band-in-a-Box will then send it the appropriate chord information automatically as your song is playing (e.g., root position triads).
Hi JOHN

Thanks so much for your quick reply.
I will investigate this, with my present set up.
If it works I think I will be spending 600 pounds for a third pc to dedicate to my Yamaha clavinova in the front room.
Just so that I don’t have to break down my every day work set up to keep moving my laptop about, that will be 3 pcs running W!0 this old tower that is my every day workhorse but no Biab installed, my ASUS lap top set up with Audio interface controller keyboard and Biab and host of music software and the new one on the CVP.
Probably go for a HP 24 inch all in one with wireless keyboard and mouse so that it can go on the music stand,
After all I still have spare licences for BIAB and Aconis True Image. Cakewalk is free so could be a nice indulgence. Also useful for displaying music on pdf files etc.
Thanks again.
Mike
I believe the OutputCH simply sends the chord(s) from Biab to an external device (keyboard/vocal hardware). Yamaha uses XFMidi format for their chord recognition/generation on their keyboards.

FYI: If you are NOT a member of PSRTutorial site, you should sign up there. They have EVERYTHING covered for Yamaha Keyboardist's. You can find software there that will extract chord data from midi files etc. A great site. They will also have exact directions on how to add chords for their vocoders for each Yamaha Keyboard and operation.

HI Trax
Thanks for your interest.
Yes indeed Yamaha does use XF formatted chords and insert such events in midi files recorded on the keyboard etc.
However the models that have built in VH like later Tyros . Psr s and Clavinova.
Do use these FX chord events to generate VH when the VH is set to Auto.(default)
But also have the ability to read normal chords from any midi channel in the mic settings / vh setting screen . or from live lH or RH chord Playing.

Thanks for your thoughts on PSR tutorial I am already a regular visitor for many years.

Best regards
Mike
