It's mid-October 2018 as I write this. I've got the 2017 Windows edition.

What makes more sense?: Upgrade now to 2018, and then again to 2019 when it comes out later this year? Or just wait 'til pgmusic releases the 2019 edition?

Past history is no guarantee, but new releases of the Windows version have typically been done in early December.

Don’t hold me to this, but I believe if you purchase close enough before the new release, like within 30 days, you can upgrade by contacting customer service. So a third option, something of a gamble, is to buy 2018 in mid-November.

Matt's 100% correct (as usual). If you purchase Band-in-a-Box within 30 days of a new version being released, you're eligible for a free upgrade. New Windows versions have always come out around the beginning of December.
