Anyone know what this could mean? I am trying to get some RealTrack backup parts to practice to on some standard songs. I have a set of Hawkes fakebook charts that came with some styles I got some years ago and am trying to use RealTracks as the accompaniment to me practicing my sax and clarinet. When I try to use the RealTracks ballad styles for jazz and start the song things go awry. The top section of my screen in blue shows the RealTracks being generated but during the guitar generation of its part at about 95% completion I get a windows "honk" (no way else to describe the noise) and a message that has in Blue at the top of its window: Band in a Box and then the message: Out of Memory at: 0083B671. I know that is a hex code address for memory and it is the same one no matter what song I try to generate the real tracks from. It seems to happen mostly during the guitar RealTrack generation.

I am using Windows XP 32-Bit with 4 gigs of RAM on a Gigabyte MoBo K8U 939 with an AMD 64 X2 +4200 dual processor. I really don't think I am out of memory. Oh, and I have BiaB 2009.5.

Any suggestions or ideas?

The first thing I would do is make sure you have applied the latest RealTracks patches, as well as the latest BIAB patch. I've had out of memory on some RealTracks, and for me, applying the patches made it go away. I suspect that it's not so much that you are out of memory, but maybe that there is something sending a pointer out to la la land and it doesn't know what to do.

Hey, thanks John. I will check that out. I thought I had installed all the latest builds and patches, but I will re-install after fresh dl's and see in I had a bad or corrupted patch or an earlier patch and didn't know it.

I just dl'ed build 287 and Patches for RealDrums and RealTracks as of September 15, 2009. The same problem occurs during RealTracks ballad styles that have guitar in them. Also, it is the same memory address every time.

Any other suggestions?

All help is appreciated.

Can you attribute this to one specific guitar real track style?
Posted By: Mac Re: Band in a Box ERROR: Out of Memory - 11/19/09 01:30 PM
Have you tried doing a Return to Factory Settings under the Opts menu?

That quite often clears up strange happenings in BIAB.

Yes, I can attribute it to Guitar - Jazz Ballad sw 85. But, I have not tried any of the other guitars in this particular song and probably should just to see if I get the same problem. Thanks Matt

Mac,
I will also give that a try. I keep forgetting about that option. Thanks

Yes, it may be you have discovered a problem with just one real track, and testing another instrument in its place will help narrow that down. Also, try a song with only the one instrument, that same guitar.

Are you using it at 85 bpm or close to that?
Posted By: RichRayer Re: Band in a Box ERROR: Out of Memory - 11/20/09 01:58 AM
Well, I have tested a few other guitars and even generated an alto sax solo on the string track. Everything else I have tried seems to work. I have had a couple issues with (after completing the generating of tracks) I get a BBW.exe having an address violation and the song will not play. I'm not sure what that is all about. Other guitars have worked even with the song that I first encounter the problem with. The guitar in question is from Set 18 and is the electric guitar SW 085 Ballad.

Thanks for all the help but the problem still persists.

Rich, call PG Music support. Maybe they can arrange to have you download that one guitar again. They also need to know about your problem. I recall another similar report of a single Real Track problem during beta testing.

Well, here is a new twist...

I tried a newly composed chord progression and used _JO85_GB Cool Jazz Ballad (85 RS) style which includes the guitar realtrack in question. It work wonderfully! I had no problems with any error messages and the song played every time. Now I have to wonder if my computer has a strange disease or if there may be something in the chart I was playing with that caused the error. Go figure...

Isn't problem solving fun?
Posted By: RichRayer Re: Band in a Box ERROR: Out of Memory - 11/23/09 11:08 PM
Didn't know I actually solved it. Must be my friend Alz... you know Alz, Alzheimer?

I am not sure what the problem was and probably never will know. But, if it ain't broke (at least most of the time) don't fix it. Right?

Thanks for all the replies, it is much appreciated.

I have had instances where something in a song caused BiaB to screw up. Not with an out of memory message but doing other weird things.

This fix usually works when that happens:
1) Highlight the entire song
2) Copy (Ctrl+C)
3) Close BiaB
4) Re-open BiaB
5) Create a new song (click the New button in the toolbar)
6) Paste the chords into the new, blank song (Ctrl+V)
7) Assign the style, tempo, repeats, etc. and save under a new name

This works for me 99% of the time and it is definitely worth a try.

Neat idea "Notes", I will give it a try! Thanks

Okay, I just tried your suggestion and I quess I mis-understood you. When I did a cntrl C to copy the entire song and closed Band in a Box, upon re-opening BiaB, I could not Ctrl V the chords into the sheet. It seems windows lost the copied material when I closed the program. If I try to copy the material and just start a "New" song and then copy the chords into the "New" song, I get the chords but when I change to the style with the guitar 085 sw Ballad in it, I get the same out of memory error.

Thanks for the suggestion any way. I guess I will try re-typing the chords into BiaB manually and see if that works.

I have the same problem with the Mandolin 100bpm soloist. About 9 times in 10 it causes an out of memory message. About once in 10 it doesn't and I tend to thank my lucky stars, save it to wav and export to Sonar. The same soloist, however, has a tendency to drop out for random bars here and there - these are not musical decisions, these are simply bars of music missing (e.g. in the third of a four bar phrase). When it does generate a solo but drops a bar along the way, the air may turn a little blue ...

This is clearly not a real out of memory issue, as my machine does this with virtually nothing else running and has 4gb of memory installed.

Not tried Bob's solution, but I will the next time I have occasion to use this soloist.

Sorry about the incomplete instructions. Before Ctrl+C you have to select all (Ctrl+A). I do this so much it is done without conscious thought.

Good luck,

FYI, there have been two cases where I couldn't figure out why a song wasn't working correctly, and I did the method Bob described, and recovered my song. Good trick to know about.
Posted By: RichRayer Re: Band in a Box ERROR: Out of Memory - 11/25/09 08:16 PM
I have tried numerous times to do what Bob "Notes" Norton has suggested and it doesn't work. I even tried the revised idea of ctrl A then ctrl C to copy. But as soon as I hit cntrl A, the song starts playing and nothing is highlighted. If I simply drag the mouse from the first measure (holding down left mouse button) and highlight the entire chord structure, then cntrl C, I do get the copy. I know because, I hit new without closing BiaB and then cntrl V and the chords are placed on the chart. The problem still persists for that song and also the manual entering of the chords in a new chart (started after a fresh startup of BiaB). But, the guitar realtrack will still not work and gives me the "out of memory" error.

It has to be a bug in the program or my hardware.

Hello Rich,

If you can send us one of those songs to support@pgmusic.com, it would be very helpful. There is a chance we could duplicate the problem and figure out a fix. If you have already sent a file, I might have missed it - please put Attn Andrew in it. I am assuming that the problem doesn't happen when you start a brand new song with one C chord and no other settings in it? But even if it does send us the file.

rich.
this might not be an issue in your case , but ive seen many situations
on pc's where winky hard drives can cause a problem.
i dunno..mebe one of the sectors has gone pear shaped.
you mentioned your pc spec but didnt mention the hard drive used.
is this the only hard drive on your pc ??
if a hard drive is used for lots of different apps , sometimes it can take quite a beating.
so my questions are..
1. whats the make n model of the drive.
2. are you useing just one drive for OS and recording ??
(i normally recommend a dedicated drive for recording work for budget 7200 rpm with 32 mb cache
only 70 buks.drives with low cache like 2mb cache sometimes cause probs.)
3. is the drive in your pc , one that you put in from an older system ??
this can be problematic sometimes.
4. have you done a drive scan to ascertain any problematic sectors
or performance probs ?? also be aware sometimes win can revert to a slower pio mode
if it encounters problems. check in device mgr if dma is enabled.
5. how much free space on the drive ?? plenty of space ??

the reason i mention the above is ive seen various error msges in music software,
but the problem sometimes lies elsewhere.
and often ive found people always hammer away with various apps on one drive systems
without realising ovedr time drives can get problems.
the other aspect is ive seen people use any old clunky drive in a music app
situation , and then wonder why they get probs.

one thing i would like you to do also.
to assess your memory useage on your pc , and whether youy REALLY ARE
running out of memory.

please run this test.
before starting biab..bring up xp task manager
which shows memory useage against each process/task on your pc.
jot down how much real memory is being used .
(do you have lots of other apps running while runnning biab ??)
now start biab, and try to reproduce the outof memory error message.
when you get the error message...
note the memory useage that xp task manager is telling you.
this will give you clues in summary if something is really creating an out of
memory condition either in biab or outside biab.
in fact it would be nice to post a pic somewhere showing the win
task manager memory useage display.

the reason for mentioning the above is to alert you to the fact there are many possible causes
of probs. mebe it is a prob in biab , but it might be something else causeing the problem also.
are you by any chance running any other programs at the same time as biab that chew up lots of memory ?? are you on the net while running biab ?? any anti virus//security software
thats chewing up memory ??
just some things to think about. all the best.

Aww, a pitty you don't remember Rich.
I'm, encountering the very same error with my new (updated from 2009) BiaB 2012 release,
when trying the tutorial excample with Amplitube.
Choosing a different Guitar style doesn't help.
I have installed BiaB on my laptop too, and the same error shows up there as well.
(it's an 2009 Update of Biab there too).
Im running XP SP3 with 3.5 GB of Ram.

We aren't seeing any kind of error like that.

Try a different song, maybe its something weird in the song.

e.g. One thing would be a huge song, for example a 100 bar chorus repeated 25 times (that would be a 2,500 bar song, about 2 hours long, and too big).
