Hi All,

I am just in the process of installing numerous virtual synth apps into a new PC running Windows 7 [64Bit] and am experiencing problems in installing Korg M1 and Korg Wavetable synths as plugins in PowerTracks 13. When I try to 'Add VSTi Plugin' for either the M1 or Wavetable synths from the Korg Legacy Collection in the DirectX/VST window, I am advised that M1 [Wavetable] 'is not a valid VST plugin'. Since both of these synths have been functioning happily for several years as plugins in PTracks on my XP PC, which I have retained, I do not understand this. Both synths also work properly in standalone mode on both Windows XP and 7 PC's.

On the XP PC the M1 and Wavetable synth programs were downloaded from the original Version 1.2 disk whereas the synths I am now trying to load are the latest versions downloaded from the Korg website. The only other difference that I can see between my 2 computers is that XP is using Creative Audio ASIO drivers whilst Windows 7 is using MME for Realtek High Definition Audio --- ASIO4ALL was abandoned as driver choice as it resulted in horrendous distortion on playback of audio tracks.

If anyone has experienced this problem or can advise a solution I would appreciate their advice. Thank you.

Regards,
Peter J
You may need to use the 32 bit version (like the older one) in PGProducts. They are 32 bit programs.
Check to see if the new one is 64 bit and if there is a 32 bit option for it.
Hi rharv,

Thanks for that. Good point 32 Bit. I will follow up and keep you posted.

This doesn't help you but this past Xmas, when the Legacy collection was on sell for next to nothing, I bought it.

I run PTPA 2013 in Win 7 (64) and installed the Korg collection in the default location (but will be moving it )

C:\Program Files (X86)\Korg\Korg Legacy\...

And all the Korg plug-ins work for me (M1, Wavestation, MonoPoly,..) - no issues here with MME, ASIO (in this case, my M-Audio FW 410 ASIO drivers) and ALSO ASIO4ALL. MY MoBO has a Realtek chipset.

I normally run ALL VSTis from my physical D drive. I just haven't gotten around to moving Korg off C drive yet. I Usually test if I like them first, if not I don't hassle with the moving to my D drive I simply delete them. Since in SOME cases moving VSTi's require a little extra work to fully and completely divorce them from the C drive.

In case of Korg stuff I like the M1 (and Wavestation) again just haven't moved them off my C drive yet.

Let me know if there is I can help with trouble shooting
Good Luck
Larry
Hi rharv and Larry,

rharv,
I have now tried out your suggested possible solution for non-recognition of the Korg plugins by using the 32 Bit option but unfortunately the result was the same, 'not a valid plugin'. I firstly uninstalled the original 64 Bit version and then installed the 32 Bit version of M1, Wavestation and MDE-X but all were rejected as plugins by PT. I do not therefore now know where else a solution for this might be found. Nonetheless, thank you for your advice and interest.

Larry,
Thanks for your post which I found very interesting as it would appear that your setup is very similar to mine. I was particularly interested in that you are able to use PT with ASIO4ALL as, when I tried, I was getting horrendous distortion on playback of audio tracks [.wav]. I found that pre-recorded commercial .wav files as well as .wav files recorded on the W7 PC were badly distorted on playback on the W7 PC but the same audio tracks would however play satisfactorily in PT on my XP PC. I would be therefore be interested to compare your ASIO4ALL and audio settings with mine to see if that is where the problem lies.

I think that I need to give you more information as to my setup etc. so perhaps another thread would be appropriate or, if you prefer, a personal e-mail. Please let me know and I will reply accordingly. Thank you.

Peter J
There is a Private Message feature on this forum you could try.
Some prefer it to email. Using it, you could let Larry decide to offer email or not without having to do so publicly.
Click his name to access this feature, you'll see Send PM as an option.

If his settings do work I hope you let us know!
Hi rharv,

Thank you for that. I take your point about preferably keeping e-mail addresses private and would be pleased to use the PM facility.

I am afraid that I have previously had problems in running PT under ASIO drivers so my present problem is just a continuation of the same. On Windows XP I was able to use ASIO on my Creative Audigy Platinum but when I tried to upgrade to IK Multimedia STOMPIO and later StealthPedal audio interfaces PT continually crashed on record with their ASIO drivers. I had a post on here concerning this and although both IK and PG Support were consulted, they never resolved the problem.

Should Larry's advice/settings be able to assist in solving my ASIO problem I will of course advise the Forum.

Peter J
Peter

Saw your PM - don't mind giving you my email but others here may, or may not, want to at least see initial post on "settings" might help them if they are having trouble as well. I am no ASIO expert and don’t shoot for ultra low latencies since when I want/need audio AND MIDI simultaneously (which is what we are really talking about - MIDI to trigger some synth) I USE dedicated external HW synths.

Otherwise I simply render MIDI file to audio wav using whatever softsynth I want (unless whole thing is 100% MIDI song) and continue. While I have most of the usual suspect softsynths this is exactly why I prefer HW: turn it on and play. It works every time: no settings, no fuss, no muss.
Now on to your issues (pics of my ASIO settings to follow).

Korg Legacy Collection. The loading/functioning of which has nothing to do with ASIO or MME settings (this is just for the other thread followers). I assume Powertracks is the only app having trouble loading a Korg module (e.g., the M1) from the 32 bit lib in C:\Program Files (X86)\Korg\Korg Legacy\ … location?
If yes and you've completely uninstalled, cleaned up left over files, and re-installed Powertracks - I'm already out of ideas.

As to ASIO here are settings for both my M-Audio FW410 ASIO and ASIO4ALL (using the MoBo Realtek HD)
No sense posting pics for this but on ASIO4ALL I can run that buffer size down to 64, usually with no issues, but I tend to run 128 or 256 for consistency (fewer glitches on very heavy loads) - I've played with all the other check boxes, and latency settings - but nothing gets "better" and sometimes it goes simply goes out to lunch so I leave it as you see it.

Final thought - have you got the right, or at least updated, Realtek drivers for your Realtek chip??
Good luck
Larry

Hi Larry,

Thanks for the quick reply enclosing screen shots of your setup. Please excuse my ignorance, but I could not discover how to open and separate the individual windows to enlarge and examine them. I believe that I need to locate the individual file listings so that they may be opened individually but I could not locate this listing. Could you please advise how I must proceed and do I need to open them in a particular app for manipulation purposes? Sorry for the inconvenience.

I will reply to the other points in your post when I have had a chance to digest them and viewed your screenshots.

Peter J
Depending on browser (Firefox) just right click and "view image" or in Chrome right click "open Image in new tab"? I don't use Explorer anymore but again right click and "Save picture as" then open with whatever pic (jpg) utility you want

But in both "pics" it is a screen shot of all active screens (on my first monitor) in PTPA when I opened the ASIO driver manager so they can't be "separated." The important active "screen" is the ASIO driver window (the one with the blue top boarder/title bar)

In both cases I'm using the respective ASIO driver defaults - again nothing "tweaked" here.
Hi Larry,

I have discovered the cause of my distorted audio on ASIO playback. If in the PT Options/Preferences/Audio window the checkbox for 'Allow IM effects recording [ASIO only]' is ticked the result is distorted playback. By leaving this checkbox blank I can now use the ASIO4ALL driver satisfactorily.

With regard to my M1 softsynth which PT will not accept, since I have a load of other softsynths [particularly IK Multimedia] installed on the Windows 7 PC,I don't fancy uninstalling and reinstalling PT to hopefully solve the M1 problem. Since the M1 plays OK in my PT on my XP PC [and also in Cubase Essential 5] I can work around the problem. Tedious and annoying solution but not a major disaster.

I also use Hardware synths for my recordings specifically Roland JX3P, Yamaha DX5, Roland D50 and Roland RA 95. I agree that they provide a trouble-free immediate solution to recording.

Many thanks for your help and advice on these problems.

Peter J
Good re:ASIO unless you really needed to add real time FX to incoming audio and have it recorded "wet."
In that case, I guess more playing around with buffers, etc. is required to make it all work properly.

As to Korg M1 please see my PM. If that suggestion works you can post here how you fixed it -so others know.

In either case, good luck!
Larry
If you are old like me learn to use the CTRL + trick.

Hold down the CTRL key and hit the + key to zoom in on an image.

When you want to get back to normal just hold the CTRL key and hit 0 (zero) key.

/*This was regarding an earlier comment on not being able to see the images clearly*/
Hi rharv,

Thank you for the zoom tip which I am sure will prove useful. As another 'old 'un' I appreciate short cuts and energy savers!

I am pleased to say that, with much help from Larry Kehl, I have now persuaded PT to accept the M1 as a valid VST synth. When M1 was installed in the PT default plugin file, it was not accepted but if installed in

D:\ProgramFiles[x86]\Korg\KorgLegacy\M1.dll

then PT was happy and M1 was accepted.

Peter J
Peter,

First, Glad we could help

However, and not to "correct" you in public, I suspect wherever PT was looking for the M1.DLL (when you were still having issues), it was seeing the 64bit "M1.dll" not the 32 bit "M1.dll" (notice identical nomenclature)

I can move these Korg 32 bit DLL's anyplace I want and they work fine IF I TELL PT where to find them, and ensure ONLY the 32 bit VSTi is the one there.

but glad your issues are were stomped on and fixed

I also own the M1 Legacy Collection software. After many months, I still have not heard the first note out of it.

I have been e-mailing Korg asking them to tell me how to find and/or get a 32 bit version of this software, but I guess my request is not important to them.

Could you please tell me how to get a 32 bit copy of this M1 software so I can use it in Band in a Box? It would make my day to say the least.

Thank you! ]
Hi Carl914,

If you access www.korguser.net and log in as a registered user [I presume you registered with Korg when you obtained your software], then you can download the latesr versions of the Digital Edition software. The download contains both 32 and 64 Bit copies.

Regards,
Peter J
Thank you. I am going there now.

Thank you again, Peter. Your suggestion allowed me to finally use my M1 software in BiaB.

Have a great weekend.
