Hi.

I think we're going to need a bit more information before we can help you. Firstly, are you trying to record MIDI events from the drum kit, or audio?

If you're recording MIDI, all you need to do is select the drum kit as the input device in MIDI PREFERENCES and then record onto a MIDI track.

If you want to record audio from the drums you need to connect the audio outs to the computer, either the line in, or using a USB-Audio interface. For this, you also need to be using ASIO drivers.

Get back to us and describe in more detail what it is you want to do and we'll try to guide you through the process.

Hi, now Im really buggered. I have my electronic drum kit connected via midi to usb adaptor. the problem is whether I go via mme or asio Im having trouble getting a signal to say Im connected ie via vu meters. I know I can go via line in and thats no problem. However, I brought superior drummer to improve my lower end kit.
My main prob is going via the usb. that when I do get a signal is is via the sound card, "what you hear".
but this records all the previous tracks including the drum track.
Im not too sure what you mean by recording midi. when I select the midi in the record mode (ie either mono, stereo or midi) Im still getting all the channels coming thru. Im really confused now. Normally I can wing my way through these situations. Im almost tempted to just get the stereo line out of the drums and just to the line in thing. that will solve everything but wont be able to use the superior drummer program.
Is there any video tuition on this that pg might have lying around?
otherwise I'll plod along.
tks for yr quick reply
cheers

One option;
While you record the MIDI, use the sound from the drum kit to hear it.
See if you actually record the MIDI performance. If so you can then route the recorded MIDI to the desired drum sounds on subsequent playbacks.
This will also help tell us exactly where along the way you are experiencing the problem.

OK, so now I think I know what you're trying to do.

Superior Drummer is a VST plugin. Firstly, it only works with certain host programs and Powertracks is not on either the confirmed or excluded list as far as I know. That simply means that it hasn't been tested with Powertracks, so for the time being we'll assume that it works.

So let's take this in steps.

1) Install ASIO drivers - either the ones which came with the Drum kit or ASIO4ALL. Boot Powertracks and go to OPTIONS - PREFERENCES - AUDIO and select the ASIO DRIVER.

2) Connect the drum kit to the computer using the USB lead and follow the menus for OPTIONS - MIDI DEVICES. Select the USB device as the INPUT DRIVER

3) Open the TRACKS window. Select a MIDI track to record on and right click on the track. Select PORT and then select the first available DXi/VSTi synth. Click in the first of the four plugin slots and select Superior Drummer. If it's not listed, click on ADD VST PLUGIN and then navigate to where you stored the Superior Drummer dll file. Click on the dll file and it should load into Powertracks.

4) You should now hear the Superior Drummer sounds when you play the electronic kit. If you hit the RECORD button you will record MIDI information onto the track from the drum kit, which will play back the sounds from the Superior Drummer plugin.

I hope I've understood the problem and that this will sort it out. If the answer is no to either of these, get back to us.
