G'day

Why and where would you use shots, holds and pushes?

Regards

Hi. You probably want to post this in the BIAB forum, rather than here.

A shot is used when you want an ensemble 'hit' - a short chord followed by a short rest. A hold is, well, a held chord. A push allows you to do syncopation.

Give them a try and you'll hear the effect easily.

If you have enough shots at he bar, then try to hold the chick sitting next to you, she'll probably push you away. If you're lucky that's all.

Can you give an example of a push?
Thanks

"push" just means you are playing the chord 1/8 (or 1/16) of a beat early.

For example if you had a 1/8 note push on the chord in beat 2 of the bar, the chord would actually play on the "and" of beat 1.
