When one comes up with a repeating "riff" or motif idea, it is common to then use the same motif but vary it throughout a composition to match whatever chord is being played at that point in a song/tune.

It would be cool if one could, for example create a two bar melodic motif on a MIDI/ VST instrument track, and then
have this two bar phrase loop for all or part of the length of the current song or section, and be able to tell RealBand to automatically re-harmonise or tweak the notes
in the track so that they match the current harmony being played in the Chord Window.

There would typically be two ways in which we would tell RB to handle transposition:

A) "in-place" - this would be similar to voice leading - whereby the notes stay as close to the original notes in the phrase.

B) Transpose en-bloc ( in Parallel - like "barrre" on the guitar ) and then alter any notes thar aren't diatonic to the new chord type so the match.

option A tends to be more appropriate for jazz stuff, while option B is what one hears most often in pop, techno or rock arrangements.

So think of this as a combination of Garageband style looped MIDI sections, but instead of ( like in Garageband ) being MERELY able to transpose to a different key - and only in parallel fashion at that - and in an awkward way - now we let the BANDSTAND ARRANGER ENGINE buried inside RB to the reharmonisation, and our Chord window has everything needed for the rest!.
Good idea. I used to be able to do something similar to this in my old Yamaha QY700 sequencer/arranger,
now sadly sold on eBay..
