You can use F5 key to mute the soloist track then un-mute where you want it to play.

If you go to the Soloist screen, there is a button for "Custom", which is supposed to allow you to select what parts of the song the soloist applies. I'm not at my music computer, so I can't tell you exactly where it is, but take a look at the soloist screen and you should see it.
