We read about theme of the holiday and the indigenous people honored and remembered by it. It was very touching.

But the question is, .... is that true!

I didn't read the entire story, but you do have a valid question because things often get twisted around by the involvement of government. However, there is no dispute that the Indian Schools existed and they were not very nice places.

If you watched the TV series 1923, one of the prequels to Yellow Stone, they touched on the Indian schools and what was taking place there. Of course, this is TV and not necessarily the absolute truth, but then again, it might have been smoothed over a bit for TV, so it could easily have been much worse. We don't have a clean record of dealings with the Indians. Smallpox contaminated blankets, Wounded Knee, the Cherokee trail of tears.... just to name a few.
