In case there are any computer gurus here who know the answer to this problem . . .

I have a Maxwell USB microphone …

… that apparently doesn’t work with Windows 7.

The vendor claims they tested it on Windows 7.
(Every other single USB device I have works just fine.)

Well, when doing research on the issue and communicating back with the vendor it appears that the mic does in fact not work with OEM versions of Windows 7.

The vendor claims that computer manufacturers are not installing the Windows 7 “audio stack” on their machines.

Does this sound familiar to anyone?

If true, how do I get the “audio stack” installed myself.
I’d like my daughter (who lives 5,000 miles away) to use the mic for her recordings and this is a huge pain.

Thanks.

Did you try these steps they suggested?

It is possible to get it running with a little work as Rharv has outlined. I will point out one other issue to deal with. USB mikes while useable and nifty in some ways, (somefolks get great results with them) can also introduce one more level of aggrevation. USB mikes act like a sound card, and add one more clock to the mix, and can conflict with the existing sound card. I have seen so many problems with them that i usually suggest taking them back and buying a decent regular mike instead. Far less headaches in the long run.

That's me! That's one of my posts. That's too funny.

I checked the box on that forum to notify me when a response was posted but obviously that didn't work.
Those suggestions (as far as I can tell) don't address the issue anyway.
When the mic is plugged in, the status message about getting the device ready comes up and then says someting to the effect of nope, forget it.

I'll get the exact message this weekend.

I thought that might be you, which is why I phrased my question above the way I did

Yeah, as I was typing I thought that maybe that is what you meant.
No harm intended.

Here is the bubble that pops up by the way after the mic is plugged in:

"USB Device Not Recognized. One of the USB devices attached to this computer has malfunctioned, and Windows does not recognize it. For assistance solving this problem click this message."
