It wasn't' all WIn 10 users, but more than a few audio/music program users got bite with Win 10 Creators Update (and some rolled back, some restored from images, etc. some are still fighting it) that was pushed a few months back well...

fair heads up: coming to a PC near you there is a FALL version of Creator Update coming

The last wave of updates they pushed broke a couple of things for me. I have 2 cameras that I can now not get into in Chrome, as well as my bank, and the USTVNOW streaming TV site. This happens only in Chrome with the latest update on Windows 10. 3 Windows 7 computers, 2 tablets and a cell phone can all reach those sites. The common thread is Windows 10's latest. The hard part though is that Chrome just updated too, though the fact that the Windows 7 computers are okay means it is more a Windows issue. That and the fact that on the Windows 10 computers I CAN get to those sites on Firefox. So this is some cumulative issue with Chrome and Windows 10. And in my case one of them is 32 bit and one is 64, so it equal opportunity screwing me up.

I thought I retired from this stuff 4 years ago.
I have been fighting Win 10 updates seems forever, but several weeks ago a savy computer guy showed me how to stop the madness. The last 4 -6 weeks has been a breath of fresh air, no constant nagging hanging updates. I will let it update at some point in the future, but for now I am back in control.

Can you share that knowledge if you don't mind?

I've been putting off installing the creators update on my music computer ever since they started bugging me to install it (actually they ask me to review my privacy settings in preparation for installing the update) but it won't let me anymore, it says I've put it off too many times.
I assume this involves turning off automatic Windows updates (which I think can only be postponed)? Also I think only the Pro version can do that, not the Home version. Yes, it would help to know more.

That is what I thought. But it can be done in the Home version. I am traveling now but will update you later in the day. It has to do with disabling the "Update Services"
. Just a simple push of a button, no big hack involved.
Press the window key and R.
At the run prompt type services.msc
That brings up the list of services. Locate Windows Update Service, and stop it.
Then double click on it and find "Startup type" about the middle of the box.
Change that to disabled.

Now, know that at some point you WILL have to allow updates, but you don't have to leave them on to be force fed to your computer while you sleep.

The is something going on with Chrome as well. Since the update to version

Version 59.0.3071.115 (Official Build) (64-bit)

I have a few web sites that will now not open. They must have changed something in the way they handle the security certificate from those sites. One of them is my bank and another is USTNVOW, a streaming TV site that I use a lot. I have had to load Firefox onto one PC just to access those pages.

Sometimes I hate computers.

PS. Turning off a service is basic basics in computerland. Nothing more "savvy" about it than basic file management.

Eddie,
I think you mean USTVNOW ?

And I was a comp. sci prof.
These updates are all about internet security and they're very important if you care about such things. AND, like I posted in my thread about security, we all should be using Edge in Win 10. Forget Chrome, Firefox, etc. An example of this was some of us including me were having D/L failures with a bunch of the RT's during testing last year. I was using Firefox. The cure was to switch to Edge and they all D/L smoothly.

Fwiw, I've had no issues with Creators.

I can't Chromecast my screen in anything but Chrome. Part of the game is to stream onto a tablet and cast it to the TV. Plus I hate Micro$oft browsers in general because of the password handling.

I do, and I fixed it. Though they no longer have A&E in their feed so they have a little less value to me now. When I hit the road I will probably go with SlingTV Orange and Blue. I watch very little on network TV (The Big Bang Theory is about it.) And for my Browns games (I never miss a Browns game) I can always find a Browns Backers club that meets at a bar with a patio so the dog and I can go watch the game somewhere.

I guess for the TV aspect of the RV, since I will have a PC connected directly to the TV, I can use Edge just for the handful of sites that I can no longer reach with Chrome. If Sling doesn't work on Chrome it will be time to turn to Edge for all my TV streaming needs.

I just take it personally when a software company makes my PERSONAL computer less able to be PERSONAL. Micro$oft did that for a long time, driving many people to Chrome to escape the intrusive nature of Internet Explorer. Now that Chrome has done the same thing, loyalties can die and I can use Edge where i need to.
Yes it is certificate (or encryption) related.
I've seen lots of this kind of thing lately.

A. Some previously accepted certificate authorities are no longer being accepted (like StrtaSSL).
B. Some servers are not up to snuff to handle the elimination of TLS 1 and 1.1 and being forced to use TLS 1.2
I moved about 30 websites to a newer server last year to avoid this issue.
C. Could be as simple as their cert expired and will be fixed tomorrow. Or they added content not being served securely (browsers no longer handle mixed content in a forgiving way). This can be a simple call for a JQuery script and using http:// instead of https://

If it's a bank, I would think they would notice and respond pretty quickly.

Usually Safari is the first browser with new issues, but Chrome is catching up quickly.
Thanks Jazzmanual. I'm a big fan of Windows 10 and have had minimal issues, but I have yet to adopt Edge. So far I've used Mozilla and Chrome as I am familiar with them, but I'll make the move to Edge. Come to think of it, Mozilla has been very slow loading. I only really use them for the forum, downloading stuff and Streetjelly shows.

I have Norton 365? covering my back too. Have used them for years. No issues with that either. I think I'm 64 bit for nearly everything now.
Well....

My laptop just finished this Win10 Creators update.

I now have this intermittent squealing.
I noticed it began during the (3 hour) updating process.

It stops....a few seconds later it starts up again....squeals for 10 seconds....then stops for a few.
I've muted the sound and no change.
I don't have a clue!

It is consistently occurring as I type.

Anyone have any G2 on this annoyance since my update for an idiot like my self?

If no fix would any here recommend just going to a system restore point?

Thanks in advance....

EDIT: well, another Win10 enigma.
Got back from picking up the wifster from work and it's NOT doing it now?&#?
Go figure....hope I don't have to revisit this furball here.

Well, whatever was wrong with the certificates, and whichever side has to fix something, they apparently did so, because I can now get to my bank, USTVNOW, eBay and my security cameras in Chrome again. Even more certain now that it was a Chrome issue rather than an OS issue since the OS did not change again since the problem started. I noticed that the Chrome settings page was different, so they must have done a fairly substantial update the last time. The version in the boilerplate did not change though, so who knows. All I care about is that computers work again at Casa del Eastside.
BTW I disabled windows update in "run", then services.msc, especially after the issues everyone seems to have with Edge ..... made me want to revert to windows 7 even .... but i found a trick since reverting to an older so called "update" was impossible. Telling Windows 10 that Firefox was my default browser wouldn't do it, always that Edge moved in ... reg-editing, installing "Edge Block 1.4", nothing worked.

But this is the only solution i found that seems to work: !!! how to get rid of edge !!! F
WARNING read at your own risk

The following does not imply, and should NOT BE misconstrued that you should not do DAILY Win 10 checks for SECURITY updates (as well as your AV and MW update checks): because you SHOULD! Win 10 security updates; however, are separate and distinct from Win 10 FEATURE updates.

If you are running at least Win 10 Pro and are concerned about WIN 10’s LATEST Creator then …

http://pureinfotech.com/prevent-windows-10-installing-creators-update/

Do as you will and YOU assume all risk if you do this or any Policy, Registry, Services, code, or other mods/hacks.

Personally, I have always had this set as discussed. I want to keep Win 10 Features, again "read my lips" - NOT security updates, on hold until the Win 10 Home guinea pig crowd and a lot of Win 10 Pro users get done BETA TESTING for me and MS.

I must be one of the lucky ones among all of you ... I have not even have the slightest issue with Win 10... No issues with Edge either. TBH: I don't like Edge very much, so I use the usual... either Firefox or Chrome. Never had Win 10 force me to use Edge, although, when loading one of my preferred browsers, Win 10 told me that Edge is safer for browsing. However, that just quit after a brief while all by itself.

All in all, I think that Win 10 is the most stable version, MicroSucks has come out with to date. At least for me. that is.
Same here; Windows 10 has been fine, and Edge is OK. I did read that Firefox will soon have a substantial update.
Win 10 Pro is fine here also. I have it on my Internet computer.

My music computer's Win 10 Pro has the updates turned off. It runs fine without the updates but remember it is off line. I will only update that one when I am forced too update. YMMV
Yes, agreed the very vast and very wide majority had/has/have no issues with ANY MS WIN 10 FEATURE updates, so what?

I am simply and proactively avoiding being one of those "1 in 100,000,000" users to have work stoppage issues, it costs me nothing to hold off on FEATURE updates.

Yes, I might miss out on that great new touch screen finger painting app for my Surface Pro (if I had one), or better ways to NOT buy apps at the MS app store, or gaming "improvements" and while I DO game, quite a lot actually, there is nothing "game ending" in waiting, or re-learning this updates version of "menus, menus whose got the menus (more like where are the menus now)," etc.

Switched windows updates off (set to disabled) in services.msc, and let TS360 "patch" routine handle the W10 security stuff, seems to me the easiest way to handle this beast. Probably in the home version also an available way. IMO it would be nice if there's an automatic routine or choice option of setting or installing W10 in a "bare-bone no-features" manner for the serious workers doing only midi-audio work and video-editing, without all the extra work and experimenting with 3rd party tools like 00SU10 and W10privacy. Or digging deep into forums like this one to find solutions over and over again thanks MicroSuck's updates. -F
