I fill in occasionally with a local band (I play keyboards). I've been out of the local music scene for over 20 years, so no-one really knows me anymore.
When you fill in with a band, the conversation usually goes "Who have you played with,... do you know??, have you ever played with??", and so on,
During a break in rehearsal the conversation went like this:
"Are you playing with any other bands?"
(Me) Yes, I play with 12 other bands.
"Twelve other bands?? Wow, what type of bands?"
(Me) Well I play with a Country band, a bluegrass band, a Dixieland band, a German polka band, a honky tonk band, a Latin band, a brass band, an Irish band, a rock & roll band ,a Big band, a jazz quartet,and an orchestra"
"Wow" was the reply "When do get to rehearse?"
(Me) Oh, we all rehearse every Sunday afternoon, at my place. In my studio. You should come over one day,
He walked away, very impressed, but with a little doubt as to my honesty.
I didn't have the heart to tell him that my "twelve bands" were all "In A Box"
Maybe I'll tell him next time we play together.... or if he turns up one Sunday afternoon..........
