Well girl its time to Go
looks like we’ve grown apart
No more empty promises no more broken hearts

No more tears to cry no more lonely nights
No love songs to sing no more poems to write

There’s one thing left to do I know it’s a dirty job
You take the house and I’ll take the dog

Ya she’s a good old girl who never cheated on me
She is always glad to see me
when I come home from a hard days work
You take the house and Ill take the dog

Well girl Ive said my peace
there’s nothing left to say
We both know that its time to go
No reason for us to stay
There is no point to continue this sad dialog
You take the house and I’ll take the dog

Elliott, nifty tune! Your vocals work really well on this, and I didn't miss your other vocalists at all. Really love your arrangements, and this one is no exception. Just a really dynamic flow to a slow song that could easily bog down. (FWIW, think I hear some artifacts in the harmony lines. Know I get them with some pitch shifting plugins, but not Melodyne) Really enjoyed it!

Elliott,
I love the hook and the way you use it. Melodically, my ear wanted to hear something different a bit earlier. Great prosody to be sure!

I tried using Melodyne on the vocals, but I need to spend more time with it. I am using Reason for this production, and it has built-in simple yet effective audio pitch tuning.

Great song concept and lyrics. The cello adds perfectly to the mix and theme.

Great lines.

We love the simple open mix, the choice of session guys and your vocal.
The cello is a nice subtle choice.

Wish we could experience song writes appearing that quickly! Days for us. 😀

We much enjoyed it!

Elliott
This has Country "hit" song written all over it! I know that your lyrics here will hit home with quite a few listeners out there! You did a great job on this!
Thanks, TB

Hi, Elliot.

Love the song, and everything about it... except what the pitch correction is doing to the vocals. It has a sort of "hollow" electronic sound.

Now, I'm a big fan of doing whatever I can to my vocals to make them better than they actually are, and I've used Melodyne and several other pitch correction tools to boot. So I'm not against using pitch correction at all, if needed.

I'm guessing that you duplicated the melody line in Melodyne and turned it into a harmony, because the two vocal lines are tracking so closely. That (and not just Melodyne) are probably what's causing that sound.

As a rule, you should try singing the line again, and use that take to create the harmony. It's OK if the rhythm is slightly different, too - that'll give it some independence. And even though you're applying pitch correction, don't make it 100% - dial it back a bit, because you want them to keep some differences.

I suspect you already know all this, but... well, just in case. wink

Anyway, I really liked the song. Easy on the ears, nicely sung, good arrangement. Simple and to the point.

Sounds like a classic country ballad to me, and nothing wrong with that.

Good song, well written and produced. Enjoyed!

Simple, straight-to-the-point story line. Yeah, it's sad, but there's a comfort in the story that he got what he wanted - faithfulness, love, and affection. Nicely done!

Take care,

Alan

Simply so good, and you're back to singing. I like it. Good choice taking the dog, by the way. I second David Cuny's assesment of Melodyne. I've never userd it for harmony (or yes, I did once), but one thing I learned not to do is get every note (any note really) in perfect pitch --a few cents off is more real (except maybe for opera). Keep 'em coming, Elliott. Much enjoyed.

Elliot, very good country write. I like the production, however I hear the artifacts in the vocals that have been previously mentioned. I’ll bet you could re-record the vocals without all the processing and sing the harmony with little or no pitch correction and it would be an improvement. You have an excellent voice and it should be showcased in a more natural state. Regardless it is a very good song and I enjoyed it, Tom

Strong story, sounds like a much better deal than shared custody for the dog, too. I liked the vocals, those technical issues are meaningless to me, it's the delivery that counts and you express right emotions.

The band and the arrangement are perfectly in balance with the story and the sad melody, I especially like the use of the cello.

Simple and effective song, I really like the melodies and the arrangement. Too much Autotune, though.
But I love the lyrics.
A lot!

Elliott,

Great title, hook and concept!

Nice!

If we were sitting around a table jawing, I could probably make some suggestions, or run a few things up the flagpole, so feel free to p.m. me.

But this could be commercial, man.

Thanks for all the constructive advise. I took your suggestions and re recorded the backing vocal lines with no auto tuning.
