Big Dreams and Cold Beer

It was Karaoke night at the old Tin Can.
In swaggered a worn out cowboy man.
He said I'm giving up my singing career
and get me a job where the pay is clear.
I smiled, said, "Son we don't serve that here.
Just Big Dreams and Cold Beer."
Chorus
I said, "Big Dreams and Cold Beer.
The sky's the limit if you believe in it.
You believe in yourself you can get it all here.
Big Dreams and Cold Beer."

He said, "tell me bartender what am I doing wrong?
I'm just a country boy singing my songs.
I'm never gonna be a big country star
if I spend my life working smokey bars.
I wanna see my name up in lights one day."
Well, I just passed another cold beer his way.

When that cowboy stepped onto the stage
we heard nothing better from a guy that age.
The crowd went wild as he lived his dream.
All the men whooped and the women all screamed.
Pretty lady at the bar who looked real sad
said, "I'll have whatever that cowboy had."
I smiled, said, "Momma you can get that here.
Big Dreams and Cold Beer."

You had me at the title ... Great Country song. Excellent Backing Real Tracks, great lyrics, overall excellent job.

Well, we loved the Waylon vibe from the gitgo!

The fun lyric had us clearly seeing the smoky bar and the folks in it.

Good one, Vic!

Vic, this has Waylon written all over it and that is a compliment.
Country at its absolute finest.
Super vocal and mix.
Loved it!

Hi, Vic.

Nice country tune that bops right along. It makes my ears happy. smile

No suggestions, other than keep writing these!

Wonderrful bouncy tune, Vic. Cool title. Sometimes it's the cold beer that brings the biggest dreams. Lyrics flow so well, and I like how you had the guitar responses. Good harmony.

And I appreciated your comments, Jani.
Thank you.

Vic, a fun and funny tune! The band sounds great, especially the picked rhythm guitar. My only suggestion would be the vocals relative to the rest of the mix. Sometimes the end of a phrase drops down and gets overrun by the band. I'd pull your vocals slightly forward in the mix, or use gain staging on select phrases, etc. Or change nothing, and it's still a great tune!

If you're using a BiaB instrument for the picked rhythm guitar, it SOUNDS like you're using holds and shots to great effect. I do that a lot with BiaB, but it's hard to get it to sound this good all the time. If it's a "real" guitar, then it STILL sounds great. smile

Are there lyrics you can post? Would love to read it.

Ask and you shall receive, David.
It slipped my mind to post them but that wrong is righted now.
Thank you.

Hey Vic...first off the track is perfect for the lyric...a very pro sounding country band...it's got a classic country sound and up-tempo bounce to it...the lyric is clever and uses that rhythm and the well thought out pauses to emphasize the hook...very cool song!
Posted By: vicarn Re: Big Dreams and Cold Beer - 03/29/24 09:37 PM
Thanks Marty.
Yes, beer cold or hot ought to do it.
Plenty of it will make you dream but the singing part suffers.

An upbeat song to made me smile even on a snowy day, from the tasty title to the catchy rhythm and melody. Perfectly country, very lively images, I can feel I'm there on the bar stool enjoying the show and asking the same the cowboy had. Great vocals and mix. Big dreams are served well, the only thing that is missing is a real cold beer on my computer desk laugh

Man what a song, I believe someone beat me to it, but I heard a lot of Waylon in there, and that's a good thing. I was that person at one time, playing in the smoky old bars...

Hi Vic,

Indeed a real country song! I do like that, but your song has the right tension and lyrics!
Your vocals are always great and in this song the lead guitar is second best to that.
I can quote Bob Dean by saying you really made an excellent song with this one.

Vic,
Catchy tune, well performed. Mix is good, but I think vocals can be slightly more on top.
Thank you for sharing.

Nice one...good band too.
Cowboy man did seem a little odd but it's small beans in the narrative. Enjoyed it.

Cheers Hans.
The original back in 2012 had me playing lead on an acoustic.
But I think BIAB was better.

It did seem odd to me but I assumed it was a coloquialism for her area.
I've heard worse.
