Borderline
©2011 Josie Beck, Robert Dean All Rights Reserved. ASCAP

Baby baby you’re so sweet
Singing in a whispered rain
Playing like a radio
With Patsy Cline stuck in my brain

Chorus:
I was running maybe you were too
Over the line out into the blue
The long way home is where we are tonight
One dance over the borderline

Baby baby you’re so free
Flying through the moonless night
I’ll be the witness to your soul
We’ll write a song with no goodbyes

Chorus: repeat

Baby baby you’re so cold
Tired of towing the winter line
Lay your snow boots by my door
Wipe your eyes and spend my time

Chorus: repeat

Bridge:
Oh I’ll be here
When the music leaves you sad
No need to set out on your own
To find what you already have

Break

Chorus: repeat/end

Hi Bob,

I enjoyed the listen I've also got to say that I really admire Josie and her harmonies. Her ability to find just the right notes to make harmonies work is outstanding. I wish I could do that!

As I've mentioned before, when it comes to songs from the impressionistic wing of the songwriting gallery, I'm always challenged. It's a limitation of mine. One phrase that really stood out to me and that I loved was "wipe your eyes and spend my time". What a great line. I also really like the metaphorical concept of being "one dance over the borderline".

I have a huge admiration for the way that you and Josie can write. In the time it takes me to write a single song, you two have an album well under way. What team!

All the best,
Noel

Wow, what can I say... Is this going to be on the next album?

The harmonies are excellent and the song just put me in the middle of a smoky club after a couple too many beers. Loved the shout-out to Patsy Cline.

This the sort of "classic" Beck & Dean I've come to look forward to - rough vocals, nice harmonies, folksy arrangements and great twists of phrases.

The album is doing fine - we're always looking for new ways to promote it, but are happy with the results so far. Still waiting for a lot of the stats to come in...

Thanks again to each of you who listened and commented since we first posted this song. It's on our current EP November Moon and is also available as a single on itunes, Amazon and CdBaby.

I thought I'd bump it back up.
