“I want to be a great big huge elephant.” – Kate Winslet as Clementine from “Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind”

spring 2005: paused movie, wrote song. (another song from my past)

Great Big Elephant

I wish I were a great big elephant so you could ride away on me
I’d wrap you up with my grey trunk, forever hold your memory
You are beautiful, oh so beautiful to me
If I had to let go I guess that I could set you free

Let me be your beast of burden, I’ll stop all your hurt from hurting
I’d like to be large like a sea so you could pour your worries over me
You are beautiful, oh so beautiful to me
If I had to let go I guess that I could set you free
I guess that I could set you free

And if I were a great big elephant, inside my great big memory
I’d go back to the place where we met and hold you
if only in my dreams
You were beautiful, oh so beautiful to me
But I had to let go, yes I had to set you free …
But you will always be with me

GruveRider, great lyrics, and really nice harmonies. Nice sensitive arrangement.
Some really good sounding string backings there.I wonder could you share the instruments you used?
Fantastic job

VideoTrack, thank you. I recorded this before I discovered BIAB. At the time I had a Korg x3 keyboard and played all the parts using Propellerhead's Reason as the synth. Bass, Strings, and "Female Ahh's". I would then quantize and do some post arranging in the midi piano roll view in Cakewalk.

(edit: I did mention Drums but there are no drums on this song)

Hi Lawrence.

A beautiful and sensitive track with a first class vocal.

Lovely clean, bright mix and loud without sounding too compressed. I was expecting drums to complete the build-up in the final section, but it worked anyway.

Lawrence, Great vocal! I enjoyed the story about pausing the movie. I don't think I have ever done anything like that. I usually just make a mental note of the idea. I really liked this one. Tom

Did not expect this song from the title. Beautiful vocal performance, and a great set of lyrics, well produced. Thanks for sharing!

Rog, thank you. I did say drums in my prior response but you're right there are no drums.

Scottt709, thank you for listening

tommyad, I am sometimes inspired by lines and moods in movies and have stopped to try a song idea.

Guenter, thank you

Danny C., glad you liked it

PgFantastic, The title is a bit awkward but somehow it works

Lawrence,

Beautiful song. Great vocal - as always. Nice production and mix. Like ROG, I was expecting the drums to join late... nicely done strings - though I thought they could use a bit more "movement" in spots..

Enjoyed it!

Hey Gruverider,

This was a great listen. Pretty arrangement and sweet lyrics.

I don't think I've ever heard your voice sound better. Absolutely spot on in the emotional pocket - beautifully sung.

Hi, Lawrence !

Really,Lawrie, do you actually really
want to be a great big elephant (though
I can see some advantages of being it) ? (lol) !!!

Very pro all through. I liked your vocals
really much !!!:)))

Cheers

Been there - still hurts.
An unusual title got me listening and I enjoyed the whole thing , singing, backing singers, arrangement in particular.
Was that a Bass RT? - loved the sound of it.
cheers

Floyd, glad you enjoyed it

JosieC, thank you

Sundance, my timber has changed a bit over the last 8 years, but I also use to sing differently, softer when recording. Then as my live playing evolved I have been singing full-voice exclusively. I think I'm going to experiment with my old style again when I record my next group of new songs.

dani48, I think would like to be a bird. Fling has always seemed a special magic to me.

sixchannel, the lyrics are a blending of emotions and memories about an ex-girlfriend and some reflections on being a father

If we could add anything to what's been said we would. Wow, a title that begs a listen and then absolutely no disappointments at all. Another one to add to the gruverider playlist. Thanks!
