Wonderful, Elliott
Not only for the young kids, but for your older ones too. Our Son of nearly 35 and family are now finding their own way in another country (Australia). We bring them up to be Independent and he is / they are finding their own way.
I loved the slide in the video that says "Carpe Diem". Amen to that!
Can you share the RB tracks that you used and production process with us, Elliott?
cheers
Ian

Thanks for the feedback and kind words. My son is 26 and is out there now "finding his own way" in this crazy world. That was my inspiration for this song. I will follow up with my process and tracks used.

LYRICS: Find Your Own Way - Copyright 2014 Elliott Kayne. BMI U4EA Music Productions

Welcome to this world Welcome to your life
Open your eyes and let in the light
When take your first steps you may fall
Brush it off and get back up again
There are many paths to take there are mountains you will climb
The longest journey starts with just a step at a time
Go and Find Your Own Way

Do what is hard Live without fears
Trust in yourself you’ll find wisdom in the years
So take the chances and go seek and you will find
That the world will welcome those
Who are brave and knows their mind
And open up your wings and feel them fly you away
Look Beyond your dreams to Go and Find Your Own Way

Every chance you take decisions that you make
Will help you write the story of your life
You’re going to make some mistakes
That will give you what it takes to Find Your Own Way

Write your own book what stories you will tell
Fill in the lines in colors and pastels
Write your fame and fortune let it blaze across sky
Create a shining rainbow with your life
You can live all your dreams you can fly beyond the moon
Cease every day cause it’s over way to soon
And go and Find Your Own Way

Hi Elliott,

What a great idea! This is something that will last your son a lifetime and beyond. How cool is that smile

I applaud the attention you've given to your arrangement. There are some really great chord progressions and I love the way you weave the instrumental texture of the sonic fabric. It's a pleasure to listen to. Great performance too.

Excellent work!

Regards,
Noel

*******************

I first made the arrangement in BIAB then exported all the files as mono WAVs and imported them into REASON. I switch between Cubase and REASON as my DAW of choice, but lately I prefer REASON's easy of use.

One thing to note: Always set your tempo to the same tempo as BIAB prior to import. This way the click tracks line up with the beat. This makes it easier to add new audio tracks after import.

I sing a scratch lead vocal as a guide, first to make sure the arrangement is right and everything lines up.

I then added Acoustic Guitar (playing my Taylor figerpicking), Electric (Strat via Line 6 500x), and some Reason Refill instruments (Harp, Piano, touch of strings in Mid 8). The harp was interesting, if you transpose to F# or B you can do a nice glassando across the black keys, then transpose it back into your original key, and it will sound just like a harp.

I did a lot of editing of the Real Tracks once imported into REASON ... deleting parts, Slicing, audio stretching of notes to hold longer, etc.

I then added vocals, vocal backups, and then mix and master.

I then export the song as a WAV file and import into MAGIX Movie Producer Pro ... find images on google, and build my movie to the musical cues. I may add a touch of compression and eq using Magix audio plug-ins to polish the final output.

I then upload to Youtube, and distribute the song.

It can take between 50 and 100 hours work from concept to completion ... some more some less. This song in particular was a real problem, and a lot of hours, because after I recorded the whole thing I found that my lead vocal was not able to hit some of the notes in the Mid 8. So I scratched that version, and redid the whole process again in a new key ... duh!

Thanks for listening. More to follow.
Yeah... always sing the song in BB to check the notes against your vocal range before you spend all that time..... next time...

I have to agree with the previous posters, great song, great lyrics. I especially love the lyrics.

Thumbs up on the song.

I was reading your process.... have you considered opening the saved BB song project in Real Band and rendering it to waves in RB? I find it's easier to change the various tracks from one player and track to the next, or even adding tracks for comparison side by side.... which bass track for example works best... this one or that one.

Initially, I used to export the tracks from BB but now, I simply let RB render them as new tracks and use that as my starting point for the tracks.

Keep writing!!

A well crafted and performed composition. I quite enjoyed this number!

Thanks for the music,
Dan
The fine lyric is surrounded by supporting production that makes it all work. Sounds like a good mix on my KRK's. Nice!!
Nicely done!! Great emotion in the voice, thoughtful lyrics, and a great video!! Take care. Greg

Noel stated exactly what I was thinking.

Great video also!
What a great song! Like Floyd said, there are so many really good lines in this one. Nice arrangement. I'm sure your son is really blessed by this song, and blessed to have you as his dad.
