This song is a good example why I LOVE BIAB. This was going to be my first instrumental and twice as long! I input the chords and then Freddie turned up for the gig, man. My brain immediately started writing lyrics, the 1st verse was there in seconds and it deteriorated from then on blush Its about a chip shop years back that served the BEST chips in town even tho the owner had one disgusting habit to check the oil was at the right temp for frying when he opened. Couldn't write a verse for that sick laugh

Fish 'n chips
when I'm hungry after work
my tummy rumbles I need to walk so I
put on my coat and head down to town
I'm gonnna have me some fish and chips

drown them in vinegar
smother them in salt
grease dripping from off your fingers
1st bite man they're hot

sliding cross the counter
as you struggle to stay on your feet
they're wrapped in yesterdays paper
with the newsprint now on the chips

drown them in vinegar
smother them in salt
grease dripping from off your fingers
1st bite man they're hot

dropped on the floor just added taste
you scoffed it all dont leave no waste
you kik the paper into someone's garden
whoops beg your pardon!

drown them in vinegar
smother them in salt
grease dripping from off your fingers
1st bite man they're hot

that is a gift.

Cool vocal and lyric and a fine production to
wrap it all up. Just when I was getting Old

A lot of fun here!!

Alyn,

You are such an original!

this is a delight.

"oh...beg your pardon.." Loved that!

The song was only as long a 1/3 of a song. So I had to listen 3 times. I think I'll go listen 3 more...

Hey Alyn.

Just got back from the Fish & Chip restaurant - how weird is that?

Brilliant little ditty. Maybe you should point out to our friends in the US that chips = French Fries over here. Maybe they know that anyway?

Can only guess what the missing verse was. Maybe you could PM me?

Got a kick out of it!! As a lover of fish and chips, I had to take an immediate listen. It reminds me of a story. A countryman of yours and his wife opened a fish and chips shop in Sausalito in the 60's (this was when my family used to go sailing there and inspired my love of the town). Mr. and Mrs. Salt (not sure if that's the actual name) started H. Salt Fish and Chips working behind the counter. They must have been at least in their 50's at the time. The shop was a smashing success (have to use British Parlance) and they quickly expanded. They were bought out (possibly by KFC) and retired very rich. I remember the paper they used at the bottom was imitation newspaper with print and headlines to replicate the original style. Cool song, and very naturally and spontaneously delivered. A real treat (like the food itself)!! Take care. Greg

Great tune. You reminded me of this wonder story a few years back explaining real "chips" for folks on the other side of the pond. Thanks.

Thanks for the lovely story, old chap ( more British parlance!!)
Nothing can beat eating chips with newspaper print all over them, followed by a cup of coffee made with water, flowing through lead pipes, and boiled in an aluminium kettle. How on earth did we survive LOL?

Thanks for listening

Take care

You truly are an original.
This song reminds me of 'are you being served'.
The way of singing, the arrangement.

Well done.

Hey there, Alyn.

Like all those before me, I'm still laughing after having listened. This is a great little number! I don't think anyone could get more original than this. You've sure got the knack when it comes to comedy! I could imagine this as a clip in The Goodies.

Brilliant!!!!

All the best,

Ditto for the comedy Alyn and reminds me of the many times staggering home from a night in the pub, calling into the local chippy on the way home and then eating lip and tongue searing greasy chips, straight out of the newspaper as I staggered onwards. Brought back a few happy memories of several very good chip shop owners did that too.

HA HA Alyn. That was fun! What a great choice of Real tracks for the song. When I was at university in Cape Town there was a take away joint that we used to call Greasies. I cant remember if it was really called that or not. I do remember that you could smell that typical Greasies smell if you got into somebodies car the day after they had a huge bender and got the munchies on the way home.

Love the line "Oh pardon me"

Great job

The wander home with volcanic chips was an integral part of growing up. Watneys and grease what a combo!!

Seems greasy chips, and beer, are a part of a musician's formative years LOL
And I forgot about that smell the next day. My guitar even smelled of chips for a while as I usually played it when I got back to the pit until the neighbours started banging the walls. Great days LOL

The mix is very well done, unfortunately I'm not good enough in english to appreciate the lyrics as I should,
On the other hand, I like the orchestration, strings are wonderful

Another total original from you Alyn, love this little song and give me such a laugh, nothing like when you are starving with hunger and the nearest quickest place is the local chip shop.

You sure can write about anything.
That CD must be overloading by now if you ever decide to release it.

My French is much worse than your English so I used Google and I hope it translated well.

This song was about a greasy chip shop BUT the best chippie I have EVER visited was somewhere by the harbour in Kinsale, Co Cork. THAT was a place the band I was in,"The Roosters", always frequented when we played the Cork Blues festival many years ago.

Interesting song.... been seeing this and decided to drop in to have a listen.

Fish & Chips... back in the day, there was a place that sold them and since they were relatively edible and inexpensive and I was a poor musician trying to pay my rent with not much left to buy food, I ate there quite often.

The greasy part is absolutely dead on..... hot? Depends on when they fried them up.... mostly no....sometimes...... deliciously yes.
Posted By: gibson Re: Fish 'n chips - 05/30/15 12:47 AM
Herb,

Thanks for listening.
In a musician's formative years; "crashing on the floor, man" and cheap food were part of the trials we had to survive. I did 2 years of that in the '70's until I thought I can't stand this anymore, I need a proper job!
The older the chips; the more solid the block!
Anyway this quick song seems to have hit home with the number of views and I will let it fade away now!!

all the best

Alyn
