My daughter asked me to write a song for her. It's all BIAB. Details to come - it's late (for me now).

The Outlaw's Daughter (L Olivier 1-13-2012)

You got your poor chasing after money
and money chasing after more
but my Mia ain't chasing nothing you can hold

I kept Mia in my Study
and a grave outside my door
reckon it won't wait for me to grow old

Her side arm's at the ready
with everything I taught' er
she can whoop the best at billiards, cards, or dice

She can walk in cool and easy
cause she's an outlaw's daughter
when she's on her game my Mia's cold as ice

Put your braids in your hat Mia
and ride your burro into town
if they look cross at you twice girl
tell 'um shut up and lay your money down

Can you smell that caballero
He's faceless in a crowd
on his pistol vengeance are engraved

He a steady bounty hunter
Ill tell you that right now
gets closer with each mistake I make

Put your braids in your hat Mia
and ride your burro into town
if they look cross at you twice girl
tell 'um shut up and lay your money down

Well they say that Hell is angry
in turmoil you shall wail
Eternal fire to make you scream and shout

but what if Hell be silent
no hammer for your nail
that'd torture me for crying out loud!

Put your braids in your hat Mia
and ride your burro into town
if they look cross at you twice girl
tell 'um shut up and lay your money down

Don't you worry none now
there's nothing more to do
that dirty cowboy followed you home

you must go on doing
the things that I taught you
I've always sent you to town alone

Put your braids in your hat Mia
and ride your burro into town
if they look cross at you twice girl
tell 'um shut up and lay your money down
tell 'um shut up I'm the outlaw now

Hi Lawrence,

excellent song. Especially like
your vocals and harmony.

Very cool song Lawrence!! I imagine your daughter is thrilled with it. Really like this folky, story song format. You did a great job telling the story. Arrangement supported it perfectly, and harmonies were really cool. Glad to see you back!! Take care. Greg

Welcome back Mr Gruve. We've been missing your
Americana productions. We're gonna call them
that because we listen to Americana just about
all the time and you fit right in with the best.

As Janice just said "I like everything about
that song!"

Wonderful imagery and, as always, the vocals
are top notch. The arrangement builds and fades
in a way that is so supportive of the story.

No need to parse it all out. It's simply a great
song that we much enjoyed and quickly added
to the SC playlist. Look forward to more listens!

A good write, Lawrence (no surprise there!)

Good arrangement, production and mix (no surprise there!)

Excellent vocal (no surprise there!)

The nylon lead was cool - what was that? (surprise!)

Good to see ya back around. Don't be a stranger!

Mia's cool!

Lawrence, I'm always glad to see your name pop up. You never disappoint with your writing, arrangements and vocals. I love the build and the the way the tempo slows at the end. This is a great song!
I'll bet your daughter thinks so too. Don't stay away so long. Tom

Welcome back Lawrence!

Very nice song! Did you play the guitar by yourself or is it all real tracks?

Thanks Guenter. I am slowly changing my approach to arranging and beginning to reintroduce elements like harmonies. Things I had been stripping out of my recording for a more minimal sound. I'm over that period now I think.

Thank you Greg. Yes my daughter was pleased. It's good to record again. Sometimes life gets in the way.

Thank you both. I just replaced the song with a re-mix. I moved some instruments around and lowered the vocal. Speaking of Americana, I have been re-listening to "Car Wheels On A Gravel Road" what a super album it is from start to finish!!! One of my very, all-time favorites.

Thank you Floyd. The nylon is the 2201. I was auditioning it as background material and it stole the lead spotlight!

Thank you Tommy. There are 4 tempos. I found out how to change tempo and this song was perfect for playing around with it.

Thank you! It's nice to record and post again. The guitar is Nylon 2201 and after I heard it, it begged to take the lead.

This is really really a great song!

I liked the vocals and the lyrics, great job on those, and the backing tracks. I also really liked those tempo changes, they fit perfectly!

This is a keeper!

When convenient check out her latest "Down Where The Spirit Meets The Bone." It's a double album/CD/project smile and there's not a piece of filler on it. Strong stuff.

The remix sounds great and we also liked the first version right off the bat so it's hard to compare them w/o an A/B. It's one of those songs that we get so interested in the totality of it that it's hard to pause and starting listening to the parts. The sum of those parts really works for us.

Thanks again. I checked out a few of Lucinda's "making of" videos on Youtube, she is da bomb! I'll wind up buying the album I just know it.

This is wonderful! Very imaginative and creative. Original and oh so enjoyable.

I can see this song featured in a documentary about Indie music, or in a movie or a cable mini-series.

I don't know if you're submitting music to publishers etc., but if you are, send them this one.

Thank you olemon. I don't submit to any publishers. I simply haven't studied the process enough.

Hi Lawrence,

It's just after 6:00 am here in Melbourne and I was listening to "Outlaws Daughter" while having breakfast. Wow! I'd recommend that combination to everyone. This is a brilliant song to start the day with. Much much better than two slices of toast and a cup of coffee.

The writing, arranging, production, the performance, the energy are all magnificent. You're daughter must have been over the moon when she heard this!

I totally enjoyed everything about "Outlaws Daughter".

Regards,
Noel

Thanks to Noel for bumping this back up, since I missed it.

Wow.

That's all, just... wow.
