Hello everybody,

This is our new song:

My Gypsy

I like to experiment with different styles, this one has a Rockabilly signature all over it.

My initial idea was to write a lyric about a son who never met his father, but finally found out where he lived. And then he would be standing outside , watching his father. In front of the window of his house. His father not knowing who he was......
Since I wasn't able to wrap this up properly, I sent the concept lyric to Paddy Gobel, our talented collaborating South African songwriter. Paddie initially wrote something in the spirit of my concept, but we both weren't completely happy with the results.
Then Paddy decided to write something completely different. This time it really enhanced the feel of the song and gave it sort of a Chris Isaak, nostalgia feeling.

Anne-Marie took care of the backing vocals and created a very nice video for the song.

This is the result, we hope you like it

Any comments are welcome!

Rob

Lyrics:

My Gypsy

She was gone when I woke up in the morning
In a room filled with sun, azure blue sky
In the distance I heard sounds of music
it was strange how the night passed me by

Oh what a magic she 's weaving
with her smile, no wand does she need
Oh the magic she was weaving
I would go any place she would lead

Danced the night away in the arms of My Gypsy
kissed the wine from her lips with a smile
And the moon turned from golden to silver
as her eyes burned her heart into mine

Oh what a magic she 's weaving
with her smile, no wand did she need
Oh the magic she was weaving
I would go any place she would lead

Oh what a magic she 's weaving
come here smile, no wand does she need
Oh the magic she was weaving
I would go any place she would lead

A touch of Roy Orbison?
Very catchy - nice production all round.

Thanks Peter!

Now why didn't I think of that...
I have to say, Roy was a better singer ;-)

Another great song produced; Nice video as well, thanks for sharing!

Rob,

A great composition! I can hear a touch of Roy Orbison, but your voice is also very similar to that of Marty Robbins. Smooth as silk!

I see the use of Rockabilly genre tracks, but I'm hearing more of a western flavor. Maybe not much difference between the two, but everything fits nevertheless. Sound and overall tone reminiscent of "Ghost Riders in the Sky". That is to be taken as a compliment - a classic country song (with a version recorded by Marty Robbins, btw).

Great work on the strat. Impressive total package, and the video is the icing on the cake. A gold medal to both of you.

Hi Rob & Anne-Marie,

very nice production of your usual
high standard. I don't want to repeat myself.
For me it's a little like a film score of
a western movie.
Enjoyed my listen.

Hi Rob & Anne-Marie ...

Great song! A little different from you guys ... but a real nice different! As far as your voice ... you sound like Rob to us. Yes, small influences of Marty Robbins with the Chris Isaacs style. But it still has your signature all over it!

I like when songs end in different chord than the typical resolution we anticipate. Very nice, indeed!

As usual, an excellent production, and well sung.

Thanks for the story - it was interesting to hear the path that led up to the song.

I think you could have written the chorus without the change in tense and archaic phrasing, but that's a minor nit.

Rob, Anne-Marie and Paddy...

Nicely done. Quite an interesting combination of instruments.

I especially like your vocal on this. And your whammy guitar...

Rob and Anne Marie,

A country song with the usual RnAM twist, nice chord changes between the verse and chorus I really like that.

I can see The Riders in the Sky and Roy Orbison but definitely the Chris Isaac comparisons.

AN enjoyable watch and listen, Anne Marie certainly knows how to do good videos. She should do a little "Hitchcock" cameo appearance in them all somehow cool

enjoyed

Hi Curt,

Marty Robbins ey....
We have to say we had never heard of him (sorry we're Dutch grin ), but we just took a listen on YouTube and we have to say this is some very cool music. Glad to be compared with that.
We do know "Ghost Riders in the Sky".
We think Paddy's lyrics in My Gypsy contribute to a similar feeling of fantasy.

Thanks for your very nice comment.

Good job on the song and video. Anne Marie has a great touch in finding the best clips to match the mood and lyrics of your songs. I also hear several influences of different artists here. I think the tempo gives the Marty Robbins flavor. The tempo is a bit faster than what I deem to be the classic Chris Isaac sound and the drums would be a bit different. He uses a lot of brushes in his songs.

This is a hit with me. It was a good song for your vocals.

12-8, ev and sw RT's....and it all sounds great.
In theory I never would have though it would've worked
but here it is! And it sounds great. That's the beauty
of BiaB and a user with a great ear.

Like Curtis said the vocal is smooth as silk.
Marty Robbins has more of a Tex-Mex flavor but I
can see the vocal comparison.

Another outstanding video and audio production.

Nice!!

Hello friends,

this song is great as usual.
I like the line bass and the choice of its real track.

Pleasant voice that gives sensations of '60th.

I like your video as usual.
Great work. I like your sound a lot.

Hello.

Thanks Al&Di,

It's good to have you guys back on the forum. Keep on posting them songs!

I've always liked to emulate the sound and singing style of various singers I grew up with. This has helped me enormously with developing my own vocal style, while, apparently, still maintaining my own "sound" haha. Actually in the past I wasn't always too pleased with this, because I really wanted to sound like this or that....
Speaking of which, it has taken me many years and an endless list of recordings trying to improve my singing.
In my early years I recorded lots of songs and then let people take a listen to them. The response would always be, without exception, "well, it sounds okay but it's a little too sweet, and we are not sensing any real emotion"
That was really frustrating, grrrr, because I could feel the emotion while singing, but somehow was unable project it in my vocals.
For some reason this is getting easier now that I'm getting older (don't know why exactly).
Some of my true idols/examples have always been the singers of the movie version of Jesus Christ superstar. Especially Carl Anderson and Ted Neely (Judas and Christ). The sheer emotion they could manifest in their singing, the intensity of it and the switching from a, normal vocal to an almost screaming voice, while still maintaining completely in key. I thought that was perfect.

Luckily both Anne-Marie and me can keep on growing and experimenting with lots of songs and vocal styles with this great program!

Everything that I wanted to say already has been said. I do agree with the Roy Orbison statements.

This is a fantastic song.

Hi Rob, Anne-Marie and Paddy
That is just lovely. Robs vocal on this one is so different . Definately a touch of Roy orbison. Loved the scene through the window and those dancers are awesome. Nice write paddy

Thank you David,

Yes, that was quite a story about how my initial lyrics concept didn't make it ;-)

About the archaic phrasing, I actually like that in our songs (we don't want to please just the youngsters :-))

As for the change in tense, this is my style of songwriting, adding dynamics in the choruses.

Something completely different than: a musical friend of mine (Le Sixieme Jour) who has just created a new song with one of my sample packs also creates songs with vocaloid. However his best one so far is this one:

Song in My Mood

Check it out I think you'll like it (The video is gorgeous!)

Thank you Alyn,

Funny you'd consider this a country type of song, for me it's more of a rock 'n roll kind of thing.
Anyway, glad you also hear the Chris Isaac feel in this.

Yes, Anne-Marie should definitely do some kind of cameo in her videos laugh

Rob

Rob,

Nice showcase for your voice and Anne-Marie's backing harmony. When you have people comparing to Chris Isaac, Marty Robbins and Roy Orbinson, you know the vocals have impact!

Once again production is radio radio.
