The Miracle Mile
© 2015 K Leverett 8/09/15

A young Elvis in the elevator
Checking out all the chicks with small feet
But burning love’s in the incinerator
And even the King can have a bad week

A street troubador playing Hillbilly rhythm
Shuffle up and drop a dollar in his case
But like big E I’m busting outta this blue hotel
And I’m off to join the human race

I said I’m gonna make a change for the better
It’ll get better in a little while
Cause I’ll be riding with Johnny in his big black Caddy
Cruisin down the miracle mile
The miracle mile

Well I got off the train in Memphis
My inner compass spinning out of control
The air filled with the smell of fried chicken
As I wandered down the streets of soul

Checked into a room with dark curtains
Sent a message to the one I love so true
Maybe you could see me for old times sake
Maybe it’s the least you can do

You’ll see I’m gonna make a change for the better
It’ll get better when it can’t get worse
Cause I’ll be riding with Johnny in his big black Caddy
But we’ll both be leaving in a hearse
Down the miracle mile
The miracle mile

And I’m trying to find something more real
Cause people forget what you say
Even forget what you do
But they don’t forget how you make them feel

And so I’m gonna make a change for the better
It’ll get better in a little while
Cause I’ll be riding with Johnny in his big black Caddy
Cruisin down the miracle mile
The miracle mile
Going nowhere, but riding in style, down the miracle mile

Good and weird all at once.
I hear a touch of green day in this.
Thanks for sharing. Rob

Hi Kenny,

very groovy. Great lyrics and vocals.
I especially like your background

Very enjoyable toe tapping listen.

Nice tune. Wonderfully quirky lyrics and I really liked the horns and backing vocals coming in. I might make the horns a bit louder in the mix. The desperation in the lead vocal really makes the song convincing. A good listen!

Absolutely love this one!! The music track is so natural and soulful. The vocals just work perfectly. How did you record and process the lead vocal? This is one of the most organic, natural sounding tracks I've heard on the forum. I'll say it again--Loved it!! Take care. Greg

Wow, thanks, I don't know too much about Green Day, they did an excellent job backing Ringo on his Rock n Roll Hall of Fame induction, if you had a chance to see that. Weird is a good thing, we need more weird, thanks for listening and commenting.

Thanks, just what I was going for, some feel good with a little Memphis Mafia confessions thrown in the mix.

Thanks for listening and commenting, I went back and forth on the horn section mix a few times, I just wanted a taste of it in there but it probably should've been pushed to the front a little more.
I appreciate your input.

Thank you for sharing your art with us. This is a wonderful forum for posting original music. Not to mention a great product for creating music.
You have found a suburb community of generous artists who love to listen to, and comment on other artists songs. If only to give feedback to others who are also sharing their art.

Yes I have, thanks for pointing this out. There are some very creative people here, and surprisingly open minded for a lot of folks that I know are experiencing their 5th or 6th decades of being on earth. This is a great community and I already feel a closeness and admiration for many here.

Thanks Greg,
I always appreciate your comments and enthusiasm, and I'm a fan of your music too! On the vocals, I wish I could tell you something useful, sometimes I get lucky. A lot of times I'll clone or record a second lead vocal and mix one dry with one with effects. This time I ran the vocal thru Izotope Nectar 2 Indie Folk and Sons setting (for a start) I used the harmony setting to create a unison vocal which thickens it nicely to my ear, tweaked the reverb and eq, killed the delay all together and stopped when it sounded good in my headphones, yes phones, good reference speakers would be better for sure but I'm too deaf in one ear and usually do my mix in phones. Thanks again,
Kenny

Awesome, Kenny!

A very cool song - terrific write. The opening is exquisite!

Excellent vocals. Excellent arrangement, production and mix. The horns are done perfectly.

This is good stuff! Top notch. A little Petty, a little Costello, a little Memphis, a little Detroit...

Cool.
