[2016]
Hi All,
As you may know, we've been wanting to start some kind of radio station, to showcase the 4,000+ songs on The User Showcase. We've tried out various station formats like Radionomy etc. At the end of the day, we've decided to use SoundCloud. This will allow us to have radio stations (Called playlists), and we'll be able to load them up with hundreds of links to the User Showcase songs that will play like a radio station, in random order. But this will only work if you have uploaded your songs to soundcloud.com.
You'd be able to have the music playing in the background as you use other programs, or play on your iPhone etc.
We plan on launching the stations in a week or so, which will appear as buttons on the top of the User Showcase forum.
The main point is that only about 50% of our users have soundcloud.com accounts. So if you don't have a soundCloud account, and you'd like to see your songs on PG Radio, you should create a soundcloud.com account (Free) and upload your songs to there.
Great idea, Peter! Thanks.
Great idea Peter!!!! Fortunately, all of my stuff has been posted to soundcloud and referenced as such in the forums so it should be easy. Thanks!! I can wait for PG Radio!!!!!!
Hi Peter. I am looking forward to this very much. Many of my songs had to be removed from Soundcloud when I released the songs through Unique music BUT there are about 21 tracks on there at the moment that have not be released by Unique Music. Most of them are from this year's FAWM. My channel is here
https://soundcloud.com/joannecoopersaDo you want me to post the links to the individual tracks as well?
I've used SC for all my submissions from the get go, but here's my channel just in case:
https://soundcloud.com/eddie-icelanderp.s. Kudos for this brill idea, btw!
Oh doh, maybe I should have added my soundcloud channel to my post like the rest of the smart people.
https://soundcloud.com/david-snyder-gigsI now added to my signature line. Almost everything on this particular channel channel (not all but about 90%) used BIAB to some degree and the links were posted to the forum. Hope that helps. I can't imagine anything that adds to the top of the list going forward NOT using BIAB to some degree since it is my main production tool for instrumentation that does not involve my own live tracks.
Thanks!!!
This sounds really exciting! What a great idea and fantastic commitment above and beyond from PG Music!
So...I understand we have to post links to songs, but how then do they get added to the station? Meaning, as we make new songs, can we ad them easily, or even remove them if need be?
Thanks Peter! Great job!
Peter,
I've just been listening to some of the songs. What a fantastic site you've created!
Noel
Awesome!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Awesome.
Awesome.
Awesome.
I have 53 original tunes on SoundClick. I also have a SoundCloud account so I'll migrate over the next few days.
What a wonderful gesture, Peter.
Thank you,
Don
Sounds like a good idea for PG.
I have (4) songs I've done with BIAB but only (2) are on currently on soundcloud:
https://soundcloud.com/chulaivet1966/its-about-timehttps://soundcloud.com/chulaivet1966/a-hundred-good-reasonsThanks for creating this option for BIAB users.
Back to it....
Cool. This will be a great way to introduce the versatility and power of BIAB to musician friends and family. Now I can just refer them to one link and they can stream away. And thank you very much for letting us appear on the feature page!
J&B
Peter,
Very cool - thanks for putting this together. Here's my channel:

Looks like some of you already have a jump on listening to the radio station. Rookie question but how do I find it?
Click on one of the red font links at the top of this forum. There is a Recent and a Featured option.
J&B
What a great idea! And, I see that one of my songs made it to the featured songs station, so thanks for that
I have a few songs that I never added to the User Showcase forum, if I add them now will they automatically get added to the new releases station?
And, should I add them with a separate post for each, or can I just have one post with links to all the songs that I haven't previously added to the forum?
Great idea. I've enjoyed listening to everyone most of the day.
Here's my Soundcloud link:

What a cool idea! Happy to be a part of it and thrilled to be on the featured page.
I love it - this is very exciting!

Hi All
Most of my BB work is as backing tracks for my Solo guitar work. As they are mostly commercial tunes, I dont appear much on our Showcase. But now and then I get a rush of blood
and an 'original' pops out.
I have a Soundcloud account and So I'll figure out which tracks are on there that could be suitable.
HOWEVER, in the UK I am reading that Soundcloud are in financial trouble and may close. Anyone got any more News on that???
Ian
Ian,
I'm reading the same here in the Colonies. I think I'll keep my SoundClick account at least until we see how the SoundCloud debacle shakes out. One would assume that an acquisition would have minimal affect on member artists but that remains to be seen.
Don
Wow ! Great Idea ! Here is all my tracks on SC
https://soundcloud.com/trygve-larsen/sets/larsen-and-the-biabs-mixBtw; How will it be selected? And how will it be put in a specific style or genre?
Is it by Tags?
Hi to all, this are two songs I posted on this fórum two years ago. I play the guitar and my friend Morgan Hernández play the alto sax. The backingtrack is Band in a Box

Thinking this radio idea was a good one for us BIAB users on 2/16 (this thread) I submitted the two songs below to be added to the radio playlist.
https://soundcloud.com/chulaivet1966/its-about-timehttps://soundcloud.com/chulaivet1966/a-hundred-good-reasonsI've got two more to include today but they are currently awaiting the soundclick approval process.
I still don't see either of them during my search on the station?
Did I miss a step in the process to get them included on the radio station?
Is my search process flawed?
Am I just daft?
I don't mean to whine...just curious what I may be doing wrong.
If I'm not there because I'm the the 'you totally suck' genre I can handle that...and end of story.
Thanks to any that can educate me.

Sergeant,
I'm having similar problems. I linked to my entire SoundCloud playlist (50+ tunes. Maybe they need separate links. In that case, it will take several days at my speed.

Don....
Thanks for helping me believe I'm not totally wallowing in daftness.
I hesitated for days before finally decided to comment about it in case I wasn't alone.
Good luck in getting included.
(BTW....I was only a lowly Corporal (E-4).
They gave me a (2) month cut early release just before I was to make Sergeant.
Guess they figured if I wasn't re-upping they could pay two E-1's on my monthly pittance.....but, thanks for the promotion

I made E-6 (Motor Sergeant) which made me in charge of Headquarters Platoon, cooks, Brigade and company CO's driver, company clerk, supply people, 14 mechanics, communications people, medics, armorer, etc. Those people don't answer to anyone! Chuckle.

Well....
I was in charge of my M14 and other various 7-82 gear and the survival of my Brothers that served along side me.
Ha...that was an opportune time to start "questioning" one's current path.
Now...I'm in charge of trying to write songs that keep a respectable distance from the "you totally suck" genre.
Maybe we'll get lucky and the powers that be will see our query.
A good day to all...
I see several of my songs included. Thank you so much.
PG,
Great idea! I'll play. It's going to take a while to update my SoundCloud page. I stopped using it since no one was visiting my Cloud page and I use Soundclick for paying downloads.
I'll send the post you need in a few days.
Thanks for continuing to make the "PGM Experience" the best musicians community on the planet!

Great idea! My soundCloud account is

PG Radio is amazing. Thank you Peter and PG Music staff. I have had a Soundcloud account for a very long time, but following is my is my link as there is a fair amount of my music to which I hold mechanical license rights, but as cover songs are not posted on PG Music Forum.
With few exceptions, I build my songs in BIAB, then to RealBand for editing, mixing and mastering, and finally to Audacity.
I was very fortunate, for when I first joined the PG Music family, I took the Ray Thigpen course on mixing and mastering. I have never wavered from his instructions that have served me well.

Hi there Peter,
Thank you for coming up with a station that showcases
so many Talented songwriters,
I suppose you'll be starting up your own Record Company
and YouTube Video channel for up and coming artists soon,
here is my Sound Cloud Channel, all the songs on this
Channel are created in BIAB, and mixed and edited in

How do I get on the Featured Radio Station?
I hope this thread is still monitored as the place to submit songs, for I only just realised that giving you just the link to my SC channel might not show you those of my tracks which I had set to private.
So here are a few more links to individual tracks, all of which I did submit to our Showcase forum, that were probably missed by you for the radio:
August Blossom Bouncing i saw you
And here's my latest entry, a pure "Showcase" song in the sense that I used a song that came with the BBox program and worked my "arranger magic" on it to showcase your excellent Crooner set. I hope that still makes this an eligible entry.

Eddie, very easy to listen to.
I frequently start with a BIAB demo tune and tweak it somewhat. I never feel correct in claiming them as mine, however.
BIAB is a virtual "idea generator", as you have aptly demonstrated here.
Great work!
Don
What a great idea, Peter! Thank you for setting this up.
Not all of my tunes utilize BIAB but here are a few that do:

I play bass, guitar, and keyboards on some of my older tunes on Soundcloud, but RealTracks save me a lot of time now and allow me to "visualize" my tunes much more quickly.

Can any fellow Mac user advice me how (or if?) these channels can be listened to via iTunes, please?
Hello Peter,
At the moment we are working with an agent who is going to promote our music and therefore we had to rearrange and update our SoundCloud Channel.
So the old links we sent you before aren't working anymore,
Here is the link to our 'refreshed' SoundCloud Channel:
https://soundcloud.com/r-am-musicSorry for the inconvenience.
Kind regards,
Rob and Anne-Marie
If only I had some songs to put on there.
If I'm writing Celtic instrumental songs, under which genre would they be categorized ? Country?
If I'm writing Celtic instrumental songs, under which genre would they be categorized ? Country?
If you're concerned about how your song would be categorised on their radio channel, then you need not worry about that because that decision is simply not up to us. That's entirely in the hands of the people who run that channel. I've found some of my entries to the PG radio in quite the unexpected categories myself
Same goes for the Showcase songs list, btw.
Rob and Anne-Marie
Appreciate your list but a lot (links) don't work.
Rob and Anne-Marie
Got the new links (disregard my other posting).

I have gotten zero plays from it in the many months PGradio has promised that one only needs to post their appropriate Soundcloud tracks in the User Showcase. Sorry, but that's not a very exciting number.
"PG Radio is here... on SoundCloud ...
- if you don't have a soundcloud.com account with your songs, please get a SoundCloud.com account, and then post all your song links in a single message so we can add them to the radio playlist!
- if you do have a soundcloud.com account with your songs, and have been using the links with your User Showcase posts, there's nothing you need to do, since we can find the posts and add the links to the PG Radio."
I have only used Soundcloud, and have only posted in User Showcase.
You still have to promote your own music! It just gives you a convenient Radio Station to post your links. Are you directing people (friends/family) to your music?

Which makes you
eligible, doesn't mean you're guaranteed to get
selected.
So it seems to me you may have read a bit too much into their information about this feature
To be fair, though, I also have to admit this also rather looks like yet one more case where the team comes up with a 'nifty new feature', only to seemingly run out of steam with it as time passes. I, for example, haven't really noticed all that much renewing of tunes on these channels lately (I count myself lucky in that sense to have gotten in there early on, while they were still enthusiastic about it).
I'm not expecting anyone to promote my music, but myunderstanding is that there should be random plays according to category. Correct me if I'm wrong about that, but one would expect that if people are selecting a category and "letting it rip", randomly you should get plays**. If on the other hand there is an algorithm that favors the popular, I could see why something could sit at the bottom forever and never get played. Perhaps that is how it works and is what people here are trying to tell me.
**unless one has only an extremely obscure category. However, I read somewhere earlier in the thread someone had written that it is Soundcloud who actually categorizes stuff, regardless of what tags the user puts in. So, the obscure category thing isn't going to happen, anyway.
Honestly I'm looking at this more as a puzzle than anything. It's true I don't promote my music very much, and for good reason.
"Which makes you eligible, doesn't mean you're guaranteed to get selected."
Okay, now that's interesting, Icelander. Selected by whom? If you mean by PGMusic, then yes it all makes sense, they simply haven't chosen my tunes. Here I was thinking that they just pile ALL submitted tunes into the PGRadio station(s). If you mean selected by the user, then the question defaults to what I have already said about random hits.

You tend to lend credence to the adage: "No good deed goes unpunished!"
Don
"You tend to lend credence to the adage: "No good deed goes unpunished!""
Um, no that's not me doing that, that's the Universe!
But seriously, Don, what are you trying to say? I don't have a bad attitude about this in the least. My reporting my experience is pretty level and factual in tone. And I'm not sure how the quote you bring up, namely my response to Icelander, fits in to the adage. Who am I "punishing", in your mind? I can't see where anything I reported or remarked even rises to the level of a mild criticism, let alone a bad attitude. My apologies if I have completely misunderstood your remark...but I really don't think I have. You are saying, it seems clear, that PGMusic did something nice that it didn't have to and here I am whining about it and show little appreciation for it. I'd suggest that that is not only reading a whole lot into my sparse remarks, but is a biased view in itself. Because, I have a right to value or not value the "extra", especially if I express myself in a respectful and reasonable way about it. Please show me where I haven't if you disagree.
Eric,
I might be missing something but I just followed a song you posted in Users Showcase to Soundcloud,
(link)"Your Boring Happiness", and on Soundcloud...
...it shows that your composition has had 60 plays; it also has 3 likes (see highlighted area on the image above).
I wonder if there is some setting on Soundcloud somewhere that you might not have activated that stops you from seeing this.
Regards,
Noel
Thanks for looking into it, Noel!
I do (and did) indeed see that the song has been played and liked, but (and as always I could be wrong**) I think each of those plays happened for one of two reasons, neither of which can be attributed to PGRadio play: 1) I had recently submitted the song to the User Showcase and so it was still on the first page or two and people were checking it out. 2) My own promotion, sharing with friends on Facebook.
**especially since I am not a premiere user (or whatever Soundcloud calls their $$ upgrade) and have no access to metrics. However, I will say this, I did keep track.
So, with the possibility of human error (mine) notwithstanding...
"Which makes you eligible, doesn't mean you're guaranteed to get selected."
Okay, now that's interesting, Icelander. Selected by whom? If you mean by PGMusic, then yes it all makes sense, they simply haven't chosen my tunes.
Bingo!
Here I was thinking that they just pile ALL submitted tunes into the PGRadio station(s).
And in there lies the "reading too much into it" bit, they don't.
Hope that clears things up a bit for you
And in there lies the "reading too much into it" bit, they don't.

Yes, absolutely clear now...thanks!
Yes, absolutely clear now...thanks!
Very good
It still might be prudent to stress a few things:
The term "radio" is possibly giving users somewhat the wrong impression of what this feature actually is, or how it actually functions. The important thing to note here is that each of the 'channels' on this thing is essentially a
playlist, with all its elements working exactly the same way as any playlist you may for instance have on your local/personal media player - and thus it does
not behave like your 'normal' radio popularity charter, as you might perhaps expect/assume from the usage of the word "radio".
This also means that the order (and indeed the number) of these tracks on each of these playlist is
fixed and does not change depending on for instance how often your track is being played by subscribers to the channel. The only way it might change is if the creators of these playlists decides to go in and manually do so by hand.
So for those of you who want to keep track of just how much exposure your track is getting, your best bet is to look at the SC statistics for your track, specifically the number of plays section.
SC defines a play as simply hitting the play button which should cause any member to view their totals with some skepticism. Two bars in and somebody doesn't like the tune and exits -- yet that constitutes a play. With YouTube you can track how long they stayed with the track. That's the reason we create lyric videos for YouTube.
As Icelander mention the stats offer some insight. With an upper tier SC account you can look at the number of "plays" by member, by geographic area and other variables which can help give you some idea of the popularity of your track...as can the comments, number of likes and additions to other playlists.
We've found that when PG Music features one of our tracks as a "Hot Topic" the plays always Increase... a lot.

PG Radio is here... on SoundCloud ... We plan to have stations like "Recent", "Featured", "Jazz", "Pop", "Country"
Guess that takes some thinking. Maybe what generally better fits what the BIAB users turn loose on the showcase: "Folk", "'Pop-Rock", "Jazz", "Country", "Singer Songwriter" (hate that naming, might fit under Folk, just as "Americana", but that's what the industry forces upon us).
Tagging and naming: Keep it simple for the search machines. f.i. just read somewhere that a tag "Ïndiepop" seems popular.
"Metal", "Latin", " Ethnic", "Bluegrass", "Dance", "Hip Hop" is present in the RTs, but not much heard on user showcase. F
It is fun to listen to the "PG Radio" - I sometimes do it while at work. It's a great way to discover songs that have been posted here before I became a member of the forum and it is also great to hear familiar stuff that I have commented on - or just enjoyed listening to - here in this forum. And once in a while I even hear one of my own tunes...
Thanks for doing this!
Next step could be making a similar radio station on YouTube. Those stations (running 24/7) are becoming more and more popular. Some of them are theme based, so why not make a PG Radio there too (still using the songs from SoundCloud but with the added benefit that you can use the visuals/stills to tell a bit about BiaB and PG Music, etc.).

Shouldn't be an explicit PG promotional thing; there is already enough there. Latter sometimes in need for cleanup? Most concern older BIAB versions confusing when you search for something specific BTW.
A lot of BIAB related stuff starts with PG as tool, indeed one of or the best, and is later (completely) overhauled with DAWs, hired musicians plugins etc, and viewers or listeners are put off by commercial advertising. You could combine with video material on f.i. nature instead. Or arts and artistic (non commercial) animation, once the whales are safe. -F
Well, I'm not going to pretend I understood all of what you were trying to say there, Fiddler, to me most of it seems better suited for a different place of the forums altogether, but that's not my call.
What I can say, though, is that 99% of any music I've submitted to this forum uses only one piece of music software - BBox - and not a single DAW.
Hi,
I've created my soundCloud account, and uploaded my songs to SoundCloud.com and here are the links. All of these songs were posted to the User Showcase previously.
Here are the song links

Thanks,
Hans
I go here for Band in a Box Radio. It is one of the web's kept secrets. That's not a bad thing, because when geniuses are work, the "do not disturb" policy is in effect.
Band in a Box Radio Can't help but having noticed the input to User Showcase has reached critical mass. The radio stream is now to the point it can hold its own with anything out there. I didn't make a note, but a forum member recently told about the attention that was given the stream when he had it on the car radio, playing loud enough to heard. That little anecdote tells us a lot.
One of the venues that makes sense to me is the intimate coffee shop -- not Starbucks, though we can dream -- that always seems to have something a little different playing, rarely if ever commercial AM/FM.
I've had a song or two on Band in a Box Radio. Lately I have been in development, but assure you all I have some things in the pipeline I think you're going to like. Spending some time with mixing and mastering this new sound.
The reason I'm going into all this at such length is I think it is time to start opening up on the Forum about BBR. There are so many interesting topics. For instance, how do musical tastes develop? How is that anyone now introduced to BBR is likely to say, "Oh, yeah. That was good!"
Here's my SoundCloud, only put one of my songs on there so far! But this looks good, I'm going to have to start listening myself!

Uhm, right...
because...??
I'm reminded of that W.E. Deming quote here: "Without data you're just another person with an opinion"
I dropped out of my premium subscription, when they dropped Groups and the whole community thing. There were so many users asking them not to drop the SoMe aspect, but they refused to listen.
You pay less per year for a distribution subscription that get your music on all major streaming services, than Soundcloud Premium.
I don't expect a lot to agree with me, and it has been hard to find better alternatives - but 4 years later I discovered ways that works fine for me.
Sorry I'm a grumpy ol' man
I dropped out of my premium subscription===Sorry I'm a grumpy ol' man
Now see, this is a much harder post to dismiss right there - not so much because I necessarily agree with you, but that's not he point. The point is, this is the PG forum, not Twitter!
p.s. I won't presume about the alleged grumpiness, but age-wise I'd say you're in pretty ok company around here.
Edit: And as I've only just noticed, then I'll add on a more personal note - Davs, nabo!
thanks for the support-- following is my link

Howdy PG group...
I'll throw this one out for the radio list.
It's easy listening light rock or a country song (kind of).

....Only the first of these songs was posted to the User Showcase previously. The rest will follow
Well, I for one certainly hope so, for these are definitely no crude workings of a beginner. These are right up there with the best on the Showcase page!
Sehr toll

Sounds a brilliant idea and I can't wait to listen to get a good idea what flavours are out there with BIAB!
As I am fairly new to BIAB I have posted my songs here in the Showcase Forum with private links. Does that make a difference to inclusion, i.e. do you only include songs that are publicly listed on SC?
Tina
Here are the links to my Soundcloud BIAB songs (hence cover songs, nothing to do with BIAB are on there too):

I've tried and tried to create a SoundCloud account to no avail. It keeps erroring out when I try to sign up. Doesn't matter what email address I use, what browser I use, or whether I use the SoundCloud app on my phone, completely separate from my home router (I tried it while away at a coffee shop). And actually, it was the Sound Cloud app on my phone that yielded a clue to the otherwise non-informative error message I kept getting: It thought my email was a spam account. And this was across all email accounts I tried.
I've tried contacting SoundCloud support to see about getting my email addresses treated as, well, real, and NOT spam. However, I've not heard anything back from SoundCloud support. Not a very good way to treat potential customers, as far as I'm concerned.
So for now, I'm using YouTube, because I already have an account there.
Hi Peter,
I just had my first listen to PG Radio on SoundCloud.
It is very good - thanks.
What would significantly improve it for me is if you added more specific Categories. Grouping all Pop, Rock & Blues songs in one category is way too broad. I am not interested in Pop or Rock music - I just want to hear the Blues songs. Likewise with Jazz/Latin Category. I
like some Latin music but really I just want to hear the Jazz songs.
It would probably be too big a task to go back and re-categorize all the songs on this forum - so maybe just add the new more specific categories and ask contributors to nominate one or more categories when they post a new song.
I also note that the songs on PG Radio are limited to just a small handful of artists - is there a reason for this?
Best Regards
Nigel
here is my Albums link, all original songs created with BIAB.

Nigel,
I just noted that as well....
Very odd.
I got a SoundCloud account some time back, uploaded one song, and promptly forgot all about it.
Since posting a song here last week, and spending more time here, I've gone back to SoundCloud and started uploading more of my songs.
Great to know many people from here are posting there. Great to have such an outlet!
(Just have the free account---don't know if the Pro option is for me or not.)
That's lovely, Deb! Really enjoyed it.
How do I add a link to my Soundcloud songs to my Signature here?
I see others do it.
Does one need a Pro account to have such a link? (I have a free account.)
Thanks in advance!
Thanks PG Music-

Hello Mr. Gannon,
Thank you for the opportunity to be included in the new PG Radio on SoundCloud.com
Would you kindly consider adding a Contemporary Christian station?
Hello Mr. Gannon, ( I think my 1st attempted failed, looks like all of my letter is missing) I applogoize for the extra work. Trying again.

Hi Peter,
I also note that the songs on PG Radio are limited to just a small handful of artists - is there a reason for this?
this is still the case. I had a quick squiz and haven't a song on the lists though there are a few inactive/non posting User's Showcase Forum folk included.
I don't mind not being on the list if I know the reason- something I might address or take solace in as appropriate.
This covers the last twelve months other than the tracks that went straight to Utub.

Hi Ray,
We use the Soundcloud links from the original forum topic for each song, and most of the links for those songs are dead. You probably uploaded new files sometime after posting the songs originally. If you upload a new file (or the Soundcloud link otherwise changes for some reason), and you can no longer edit the post, feel free to message me or use the notify moderator button and we'll correct the links. I will update the ones you posted.

Hello & thanks Andrew,
I've a habit of posting updated links in the O.P. of a thread I start as I'm often posting a W.I.P. or a final mix then follow with the master when the M.E. has completed it so this may be the issue. I often remove the W.I.P. links &/or songs as they fill up my soundcloud allocation rather quickly.
I shall get back to you with something useful I hope.
Stay safe
Stay well.

Thanks. The instructions in this thread were intended for users who were moving songs to SoundCloud a few years ago. You should actually include the SoundCloud link in the forum post of your song. Start a new forum topic for each song - the song title should be in the post subject, and the SoundCloud link should be in the post body.
I will update the forum description with more details.
