A winter's night in Scarborough

A mate of mine, who is a good singer, asked me to write a song for him. This describes the time a year ago when we went to Scarborough for a Lads' night out. The place was very quiet and we went to a couple of pubs for a bit of karaoke and outnumbered the people there !!!

Anyway, I sent him this song with me singing as a guide vocal and he wasn't that keen but it's a fun song, so I thought I'd post it, guide vocal and all.

Happy Christmas to all ...

Uses _COOGIM.STY with fiddle
Vocals and lead guitar - me.

Cheers.
Mike.

Hi Mike.

I really had to listen to this, living as I do, some twenty five miles out of Scarborough!

Hey, absolutely nothing wrong with that vocal and the guitar solo shines as well.

Yes, a perfect description of Scarborough in the winter, but the place comes alive when the sun shines and the surf's up.

Thoroughly enjoyed the song and just going back for a second listen. Maybe you could do a follow-up in July.

Cheers, ROG.

EDIT - Hey, if you look closely, I think that's me on the beach.

Hi ROG.

Thanks for the listen.

Early December isn't the busiest time as you say, even on a Friday night.

We have our Lads' weekend in Benidorm in Summer ...

Have fond memories of Scarborough for family holidays though. As you say, it's great in season.

Cheers.
Mike.

Micheal, man this is a great song!! Your vocal as a guide? Come on, it's perfect for this tune! The vocal was what hooked me from the start and the smokin' guitar in the middle was great! Very good and enjoyable! Thanks, Torrey.

A fun song, Mike.

Good mix. Nice guitar work. The vocal is just what it needs to be (I would add a little more reverb to it).

Well done.

Hi Torrey, Greg and Floyd.

Thanks for the listen and comments.

Very much appreciated, and I might redo the vocals with a touch of reverb (and slow it down a bit too).

Cheers.

Scarborough ....Holidays...!

Well for me anyway.

Mike this was good a traditional song with traditional feel.

Floyd said a wee bit more reverb on vocals and its a go. Spot on.

Never been in the winter time but enjoyed... just like your song... in the summer.

Well done

Take care

Hi Mike,

Like ROG, when I saw the title I had to listen (although I'm about another 20 miles further away than him).

It's a fun song and, guide vocal or not, you told the story well. Add a touch of 'verb and it would be killer. I'm also a sucker for a decent guitar solo and that didn't disappoint either :-)

I've never been in winter and after hearing your story I doubt that I will.
Although I was once snowed in in Whitby.

Cheers,
Jez

Hi Mike,

Nice to "meet" you. Di and I have been regulars here for a couple of years but missed most of this year due to health issues and logistical situations. But, we're delighted we got to hear this little gem!

It was a fun listen and well-crafted. We really enjoyed our listen. Wishing you & yours a Merry Christmas,

Alan & Di

Hi Colly, Jez, Scott, Alan and Di.

Many thanks for the listen and comments.

Snowed in at Whitby sounds quite nice Jez.

I have vivid memories of the queue for that black and white chip shop being miles long in Whitby (and the Dracula museum ...).

Glad you're back on the site Alan and Di - nice to meet you as well.

Thanks again, much appreciated.
Cheers.

It WAS actually quite nice as we spent Christmas in a posh Hotel there. Re the chip shop I think you must mean the Magpie? It's a while since I have been there but the fish n chips were delicious.

All the best,
Jez

Mike,

Your mate missed out on a good song, but your vocal is spot on anyway... and the guitar is excellent.
Way to turn a less than stellar night out into an upbeat song!

Hi Mike,

A good fun song! As I'm sitting here listening on headphones, to my ears, each element sits snugly with the mix.

Hope Christmas brings delight your way.

This is one cool production. Your vocal is perfecto for the song and as mentioned a bit of verb will sweeten it even more. Love the write, the groove and your playing.

Nice!!
