The ego versus the alter ego......

Lyrics:
I was walking on that road you seem to know so well yes, it was like you so painstakingly described now I wasn't paying attention, but I may have heard her, eh, You may have hurt her it seems so long ago, and that's funny isn't it? ha, surely you'll remember.....
Where did you go to my little Mandy? Did your lovin' all run out where can I find you my pretty Mandy? Hope you find a resting place
but I decided to turn around, not really getting into it you know. after all who wants to know, I know you don't you haven't forgiven yourself have you? yeah that seems unlikely and would be way too hard you still hear her at times? you can admit it, I know you're still running
Where would you go to my little Mandy? A place where no one will be found Never a trace my pretty Mandy I hope you found your resting place
there must be fragments of memories there must be.... something you never even told me what went on that night about where she was and where she went I know you couldn't stand it, hell you couldn't even stand yourself but what you did, what you did
Where did you go to my pretty Mandy?
Did your lovin' all run out Never a trace my pretty Mandy A place where no one will be found Where can I find you my little Mandy? I pray you find your resting place
A big change in style from a lot of your earlier stuff, but I must say I loved the whole thing from start to finish.
It's never easy getting spoken lines to work, but I thought you did a wonderful job with this one. In fact, the entire arrangement is very clever, with a great solo and a really intimate atmosphere.
“you never even told me what went on that night about where she was and where she went I know you couldn't stand it, hell you couldn't even stand yourself but what you did, what you did...”
Original and haunting. Your vocals are as flawless as ever and the arrangement nicely restrained. A song that stays with you. The video is your most professional to date imo (well worth watching full screen).
Rob, I wasn't expecting that. The spoken words work so well. I enjoyed the fill in the blanks aspect of the lyrics. Nicely done and a very enjoyable listen. Tom

That, is excellent writing, IMHO.

Rob,
The Bobs and Robs covered it well... This is stunningly good!! Great write. Beautiful production...that new Brent acoustic was a good find..nice use of the dreamy track for a solo...
I like it that this one took you by surprise ;-) This one was composed, however, rather fast. I've had songs that took me much longer, with a lesser result. The combination of the Brent Mason acoustic guitar real track and the piano was such a good mix to compose on.
But of course my single goal with every new song (especially in my solo projects) is to reinvent myself whenever and wherever I can.
Did you already check out the video? It wasn't uploaded yet when you listened to the song ;-)

Very powerful! Very well done musically and lyrically. Great stuff! Take care. Greg
As we've come to expect the write, the vocals and the audio/video production are stellar.
Also the manner in which you made seemingly disparate RT's work perfectly well together is a clinic in just how well you work with them and the remarkable versatility that BiaB offers.
The lyric is outstanding and the spoken part is absolutely seamless.
As several have already said, this is stunning and one of the last things we would have had expected to come from you. It was superb and held our attention until the very end. However, we wished it hadn't ended. We've marked it go back for more listens.
It's haunting and totally captivating. The contrast of the backing tracks between the spoken and written passages is dramatic and so wonderful! Di and I experiment with combining seemingly incompatible tracks quite often and we were so pleased and thrilled how you combined those backing tracks for such a superb final product.
Simply put, that was amazing and such a pleasure to listen to. Thank you for those minutes of pure pleasure!
Very excellent song and video. As Robert said, original and haunting. Your vocals are as flawless as ever and the arrangement nicely restrained. And the spoken words work so well. Enjoyed my listen and watch a lot.
I agree this is one of the videos that worked out best. Well, apart from the editing part, that's not entirely my doing, I'm also dependent of whatever royalty-free footage I can get my hands on ;-)
About the inspiration for this song, well... I'm probably a criminal ;-) Just kidding, sort of unconscious I think, but also inspired by several crime series like The Fall and some other Netflix stuff.
Most Americans, British and Canadians probably never heard of this artist, Falco (German singer) was quite infamous here in Holland back in the 80s. I think I took some of the inspiration out of this song. It's particularly interesting to listen to his perfect timing, in this song. I've tried to record this one, and also try to sing it in karaoke bars. I never once managed to get the exact timing of his vocals, which makes him quite unique.

Hi Rob, This is a truly a great song and excellent composition. Its not easy to do the spoken word but your voice was smooth as silk, I also think the naratives bounced along in time perfectly.
Chords and melody were superb. Its a hit with me too. Paul PS I think we may use the same site for video footage as I have used some of those clips in my work.
Well done all around. The spoken word, the lyrics and melody. I especially like the atmosphere, the vibe you've created, and hats off to you on your instrument selections they blend together superbly.
Hi Rob, nice dark video and a song with many pleasant surprises. It's funny how you get started with a jazz style and find your own fitting arrangement. I enjoyed it.
