Kaleidoscope ( featuring guitar by Scott C)

Homage to the psychedelic soundtrack of my youth.
I`ve been wanting to ask Scott C to contribute his melodic lead to a song and I think I picked the right one. Scott also handled the mix.
Play as loud as you would have in 1969!

Kaleidoscope

when this world is a sliver
stuck under your skin
chaos spreading through your veins
making your head spin

take the sunlit road
an arms length from the sky
there`s a bird in your body
remembers how to fly

they won`t catch you no they can`t catch you
we`ll travel in disguise
through a crack in the concrete a crack in the concrete
the kaleidoscope of eyes
dream of a thousand lives

if joy is a pebble
sinking in your heart
like a junkyard angel
your grace falls apart

take the sunlit road
an arms length from the sky
there`s a bird in your body
remembers how to fly

they won`t catch you no they can`t catch you
we`ll travel in disguise
through a crack in the concrete a crack in the concrete
the kaleidoscope of eyes
dream of a thousand lives
dream of a thousand lives

Robert / Scott,

Excellent collaboration! Great tune and loved the delivery and production. Awesome lead guitar by Scott as well.

Bob
"Play as loud as you would have in 1969!"

Hmmmm, in '69 I was still living at home. I would have had the lights down low and the phones on so as not to bother my parents, plus I was probably supposed to be sleeping 'cause the next day was a school day smile

Nice write, Robert, you certainly captured the mood of the late 60's with your lyrics.

Scott sounds great, a good choice for this. He never overplays and that is a nice little melodic hook he came up with.

Nice collab you two, enjoyed the listen!
Robert / Scott
Very nice collaboration - particularly liked the last stanza both the guitar and vocal.
Nice work.
Peter
Robert & Scott...

Nice collaboration. Cool retro sound.

The chorus is especially nice. Has a real Airplane sound/feel to it.

Scott's guitar licks fit nicely. Adds some hooks of their own.

fj
Wow! what a great collaboration
the picture is perfect for this song

really enjoyed it, do hear the J Airplane feel

nice positive message

Kenny
Robert and Scott,

You've both done a terrific job here. It's a really strong collaboration and skillfully captures those lyrical and musical elements that made the psychedelia of the 60s what it was. This is definitely a work to be proud of. Both of your performances sounded very comfortable and nestled into the mix perfectly.

I enjoyed it.

All the best,
Noel
Well, fj who's gotta be younger than me smile nailed the vibe. Airplane!!

As Peter said "Very nice collaboration - particularly liked the last stanza both the guitar and vocal."

Yep, sounds like a band that's been working together for a while...and for us that is as good as it gets (assuming we dig the genre) smile

Great job y'all on everything -- the performances, the write and the production.

We enjoyed it! And will again. I appreciate the trip back...and Janice would also except she was a child -- sometimes the 12 years age difference makes a difference....me (Bud)? I was a sr in college in '67 so the Airplane is indelible.

Super collab!

Thank you, Bob - yes, I figured Scott would deliver and he sure did... I think maybe his solo should have been longer.

That was my situation in `69 too... one shared crappy record player with speakers that would rattle & jump around when cranked.Which I did on the rare occasions mum was away.
Glad you enjoyed this!

Floyd,
Ok you found me out -the chorus riff came from a guitar part on
an Airplane album.
I really like the way Scott picked up on the melody.
Thanks for your listen & comments.

Robert
Really awesome stuff! That guitar tone is so great, too. Nice and chimey. The chorus is great too, really propulsive, and gives the song a lot of focus.

Thanks for the very kind comments. Robert certainly can capture a vibe with his lyrics. Loved his vocal on this one as well. I could really relate with the feel of the song and his delivery and the melody for the guitar solo came to me very fast..
Robert,

All the accolades are right on track here. This is superb. You guys really shine through as artists on this one.

I found this to be magnetic and enthralling. Great lyrics, great music, great singing and playing. Tons of emotion.

Wonderful job.

Thank you Kenny,
The Airplane were gods to me for a while.
I was looking for an old Fillmore poster for the picture but this one was better.

Noel,

That`s very kind, thank you!
Scott`s mixing instincts were just right for this.

J&B,
I`m glad you liked this.
Your comments about Janice missing out on that amazing time in music reminds me to be thankful to have been around to partake... albeit from another continent.

David,
Wow, that has made my day.
I really enjoyed the "research" for this song - listening to Forever Changes, After Bathing At Baxters etc for the first time in decades blew me away.
I did not, I should add, need any other " high" to remember the feeling.

Robert
Robert and Scott, I remember those days well and you captured the feel and sound. Good arrangement, vocal and playing. I enjoyed it. Tom
Hello, Robert and Scott

Very nice collaboration.
The melody is very good which start reminds me of 9th symphony of Beethoven.
The chord progression is very unique.
Unresolved ending chord is also nice.
Scott's guitar is very pleasant as usual.
Enjoyed my listen a lot.

Best regards.

I think you captured the vibe well. Well written and arranged and Scott adds color while accenting the groove.

much enjoyed!

Hi Shigeki,
Your perspective is always very interesting...even though my starting place for the melody was a guitar part on a rock song, now I`m going to listen to that symphony to try and hear what you mean.
Many thanks for your listen and kind comments.

Thanks Kenny. Jefferson Airplane one of my favorites when I was a youngster.

Thanks Janice and Bud. Funny you should say we sounded like a band that has been working together for awhile. I have been really attracted to Roberts work as soon has he started posting here. Can really relate to his lyrics and music style..

Excellent in every way!
The intro really shines, the voice is dark(as we've become accustomed to ;-)) and man that atmosphere in the chorus really gives this song the big extra.

Glad you enjoyed this,Rob... and thanks for mentioning the chorus as this was the first time I tried putting the verse & chorus vocals on different tracks for an easy switch in effects.

Robert
Robert and Scott,

Very nice ... takes us back more than a few years. Super collaboration. Nice backing trax. Thanks for a great listen.

I'm late and its all been said so all that I can add is this is one fantastic collaboration. Your guitar tones and lines fit perfectly to Robert's vocals. it brought back some wonderful memories of me playing with an amp as tall as I was!

Two thumbs up.

Mario,
Yes, Scott cued in to the melody with his guitar and really took this up a notch.
Thank for making time to listen.
