YaYa Sister

https://soundcloud.com/lawrence-olivier/yaya-sister

In 2006 I wrote this song on a synth keyboard as an instrumental groove in 7/8 time using propellorhead’s Reason. Sometime in 2007 I added the Rap vocal story and mixed it down.

For the last couple of years I have wanted to integrate it with BIAB somehow, but it was in an odd time signature. Then a few weeks ago I had a facepalm moment “dope! change it to 4/4 you idiot!” So here it is!

Some of the higher harmony vocal parts I can’t reach anymore (yikes!) so melodyne helped me out. I have had a lot of fun working on this.

A very well thought out production with so many cool elements from different genres...the non rap parts reminded me ( in a good way) of Steve Miller.
Very creative.

Now that is different!

Very cool Lawrence.
Love the backing vocals. The whole song actually reminds me of hey St. Peter from Flash and the Pan.
Keep them songs coming!

+1!

Good cross-mixture of instruments/styles. It all works very well, with mixing sw/ev rhythms, and I was surprised to see the metal solo fit so well.

Really like this one!

Hi Lawrence,

Great production! The arrangement is top-notch. There's so many nuances and little inclusions that make this sparkle. Everything about this says "Great Song & Production". We totally loved - even the psychodelic guitar. And loved the trailing wah-wag at the end. Great stuff!

Lawrence, That must have taken some time to put together. You had me from the get go. Absolutely loved everything about this! There is a lot to take in and requires many listens to fully appreciate the intricate production. Fantastic arranging and vocals. Bravo!!! Tom

Great track!!! Such an interesting musical piece. It struck me that the music had a real Steely Dan vibe. They are one of my very favorite bands. This is excellent!!! Take care. Greg

The title kinda put me off, but curiosity got me and ...well here I is.

Pretty cool jive song. More of a funk groove and that's pretty cool.

Yep, pretty interesting stuff. Good job.

Thank you Rob. It's always fun to play in a different sand box. It does sound remarkably like "Hey St. Peter" in many respects. I must have heard that song long ago and stored it away somewhere.

Thank you Alan & Di. The wah-wah ending was splitting the tail and copying and pasting it several times and fading out.

Tom thank you so much. It did take time to try to give everything it's own space. I'm messing around with reverb (esp predelay) on individual tracks to see if I can create depth.

Greg, yes very Steely Dan meets maybe Pink Floyd. The album "Aja" made such an impact on me.
