A song about liberation.

©2008 Robert Randall Burke
Sunday morning
She's all alone
Never called
And he never came home
Guess the honeymoon is over
Like they say.
Friends told her
He would never change
All this time
And it's still the same
Now all she wants to do is get away.
Jesse isn't gonna cry no more
Jesse's headin' out that old front door
Jesse's startin' on a whole new life today
When he asks you where she's gone
When he finds that he's all alone
Just tell him
Jesse's gone away.
Jesse's always been a small town girl
Now she's headin' out to see the world
Never liked this small town anyway
There's a better life out there somewhere
This old Chevy's gonna take her there
Left a note sayin “Jesse's gone away”.
Jesse isn't gonna cry no more
Jesse's headin' out that old front door
Jesse's startin' on a whole new life today
When he asks you where she's gone
When he finds that he's all alone
Just tell him
Jesse's gone away.
Tell him there ain't nothin' more to say
But Jesse's Gone Away.
Thanks for listening.
Regards,
Bob
Beautiful song, Bob.
A heart-rending tale, but with a message of hope. A classic piece of writing.
Every bit as polished and professional as ever, with your signature vocal delivery.
Loved the whole thing.
Cheers, ROG.
Bob,
As is so often the case (with your songs)... this is a "beautiful write". No wasted words, everything in the right place... moving in the right directions at all times...

Damn! This is good.
Who cares if the production is good (It's perfect). It's such a dang fine write - what else matters...
Ah.

HI Bob,
Fabulous song. Definitely my fave from you in quite some time. Your vocal is exquisite and the song is a great vehicle for it. An economy of words and a surplus of story. A tip of the hat to you.
Alan & Di
I enjoyed this. Nice catchy chorus.
Really nice one Bob!! Very well crafted song. Arrangement is perfect for the song, and you vocal is beautiful (a bit of Gordon Lightfoot)! Love it!! Take care. Greg
Fantastic song, 90 dB! I have a feeling this one's going to be stuck in my head for a while. The vocal delivery, the subject matter, the production - all on point! You should be very proud of this one.
ROG,
Thanks for the kind comments. Appreciate the listen.

Really nice words Bob I'm sure many people out there can relate to it, great chord change (B7)? coming into the chorus.
Brian
Beautiful song Robert!
Rob
Very cool tune Bob. Super vocal and lyric. Excellent hook to the chorus. Have it playing in my head now. :-)

I have to tell you that when I see you post a song, I ALWAYS listen to it. It's strange how I have an expectation for your music, and yet await the surprise. You somehow manage to set a high standard in my mind, and have the ability to both keep that standard AND take it in a different way then I expect. I like that.
Lyrically, this is a song you can get lost in. NOT lost, just a sit back and drink it in. Your production, which is so clean, creates the environment for all the rest to sit in.
Another great share. Thanks!
Greg,
Thanks for the kind comments.

Janice's first comment was that your song sounded like something Glen Frey would have sung - both the performance and the write.
The melody is lovely and well delivers the sad story without being overwrought.
Janice also said to mention the exceptional vocal and the steel.
Bud agrees with her
And the production is very strong.
As they say across the pond, brilliant,
J&B
Very nice, Bob! I always enjoy your vocals, and this is no exception. Very good write. Sounds like something Glen Campbell would have done. Really like it!

Hey Bob,
I agree with what everybody is saying... mighty fine song you've written and performed here!
Your voice is just phenomenal too... it fits the songs you write so well. There is a "just enough" quality to this song... the background instruments are clear but not overpowering, and they work together to support the vocals as close as anything could come to being perfect.
Bob, you've done a great job with this song. Such a great clean sound and full of feeling. Vocal is great! Thanks, Torrey

Bob,
What a wonderful listen! Like floyd.... GOOSEBUMPS.
You've put together a highly polished arrangement that sparkles. As others have noted, the chord changes are excellent. And your singing is superb. On top of this, everything sits snugly within an incredibly clean sound. I would love to be able to write and produce songs like this! You've definitely got the knack for creating quality.
All the best,
Noel
What a great song. Nice production too.
I love, love, love the sound of your voice. It's so easy to listen to and sounds really smooth. I could easily see myself putting this song on my iPod and walking around town listening to it.
The soundcloud link no longer seems to work, but luckily the second one did!

Noel,
Thanks for the kind words. That whole song began with an up-sweep on my guitar (you can hear it throughout the song). Took a long time before I had a version I was happy with.
I finally just gave up.
