*******************

Excuse the caps its the way I write them sorry

THESE FOUR WALLS THAT HOLD ME NOW
WILL NEVER GET ME DOWN
COS INSIDE IM FREE MAN
WHOSE TROUBLES CANT BE FOUND

AND I ONLY TALK TO JESUS
COS HES MY ONLY FREIND
SOMETIMES HE ANSWERS BACK
THEN WE START THE WHOLE DAM THING AGAIN

THE WARDEN TELLS ME TUESDAY WEEK
ILL BE UP FOR MY PAROLE
I SPOKE TO THE MAN UPSTAIRS
WHO SAVED MY TROUBLED SOUL

TOLD HIM THAT ID WALK THE LINE
TOLD HIM THAT ID SPREAD HIS WORD
NOW TUESDAYS GETTING CLOSER
AND MAN IM GETTING SCARED

SOLO

NOW OUTSIDE IM A FREE MAN
THERES NO WALLS TO KEEP ME DOWN
ME AND MY FREIND JESUS
WE TRAVEL TOWN TO TOWN
HELPING OUT THE SINNERS
TRYING TO SAVE THERE MORTAL SOULS

MY BIBLE RIGHT HERE IN MY HAND
TELL EM DAMNATIONS DOWN BELOW

WAY OUT IN EAST KENTUCKY
A GOOD MAN LOST HIS LAND
TRIED HIS BEST TO SAVE IT
BUT ITS NOW OWNED BY THE BANK
HE LOST HIS WIFE AND CHILDREN
HE LOST HIS FAITH AND MIND

NOW HES NOT A NAME NO MORE
ON HIS CHEAST A NUMBER YOU WILL FIND

THAT TELLER DIDNT STAND A CHANCE
BUT SMELT ON HIS WHISKEY BREATH
CLOSED HIS EYES YELLED OH LORD
BEFORE HE WAS SHOT TO DEATH
SEE A MAN CAN ONLY TAKE SO MUCH
BUT THE BANK CAN TAKE IT ALL
NOW THE SAINTS A SINNER
AND HE JUST GOT FOUR WALLS

Brad,

A good write. And a nice production - good mix - everything's nice and crisp.

The vocal sounds really good - that mic worked well for you...

Nice job. A good listen.

Hi Brad,

I liked a bunch of things in this song:

First of all, the TRAIN styles are really good for story-tellin' songs, and you really used this style to good effect since this song does indeed tell a story.

I get the impression the song is influenced by Johnny Cash. Not only does it have a Folsom Prisom feel, but your use of the phrase "walk the line" is also reminiscent of Mr. Cash.

While reading the lyrics slightly ahead of your song, I saw that you used the words WORD and SCARED as a rhyme, and I was wondering how you'd pull it off. It was a masterful way to weave in a regional accent!

I thought your use of a resonator guitar for the solo did a good job of keeping your song from sounding too much like something Johnny Cash might have recorded. In so doing, you made it your own.

Having said that, I think when you sing in the lower register your voice sounds remarkably like Johnny Cash, and you could probably make a local name for yourself as a Johnny Cash tribute performer.

One nit, (and you always have to take peoples' opinions with a grain of salt): I think this song would benefit from removing most of the decorations while you are singing. Decorations that play when you aren't singing help to fill in the void, but when they compete against the vocals for the listener's attention it makes the mix muddy and detracts from the message.

All in all, I thought this was a very good and entertaining song!

I thought the song sounded great, no need to remix. Most of what I say about songs is just one of many possible approaches, all of which have merit and none of which is "the right way" to do it.

Anything I say is for future consideration.

Keep up the good work, and don't put too much stock in my comments.I just make stuff up. ;-) We're all here to have fun.

What a great song!!! Reminds me of one of my favorite CCM band, The Love Song.

There's a LOT to enjoy here:

- The write
- The vocal
- The RT/RD choice
- The production quality

And the package is a great representation of the Cash groove. Nice.

I do have to agree with Pat. The vocal is just too good to have quite as many flourishes under it. Let it shine! But hey mixes are never finished...just abandoned smile

Nice work!

I love the mash up between gospel and country. It makes for a rather interesting combination. I also rather enjoy the guitar in this one. <3 Can't wait for the next one.

Man, this is really, really good. I loved the heck out of this.

Was tappin' my foot the entire time.

Great song construction, great lyrics, great vocals--no matter what type of mic you were using.

You probably could have used a Dixie Cup and string on this one and it still would have sounded good.
