BACKWOODS CHURCH

His hands were held above his head
A smell of liquor on his breath
This could be his last chance yet
He hoped to pull it through

A sorry sinner among many saints
Some who believed and some who'd wait
To see if this old man and his faith
Just what they could do

Tabbacco stains on fingers long
A three day growth and a saviours song
More hallalujahs then ever before
around him in them pews

The beads of sweat on his furrowed brow
A glance towards that old cross now
A throat so dry he wondered how
He'd ever get on through

But he faith more now than then
And with his soul he prayed again
Dear lord forgive us for our sins
For we all trust in you

But he believed in everything that good book said
He believed in every word that he read
He found his strength and how
In that backwoods church that day

A brand new start from way up above
Once again he'd found gods love
He remembered that when he was lost
Somehow he found a way
In that backwoods church that day

A sunday morning a brave new world
Here comes daddy with his little girl
The tears that fall can all be heard
Above that wedding tune

Twelve months ago when he held her hand
The doctord said she'd never walk again
But he faith faith and he had a plan
And with the good lord saw it through

But he believed in everything that good book said
He believed in every word that he read
He found his strength and how
In that backwoods church that day

A brand new start from way up above
Once again he'd found gods love
He remembered that when he was lost
Somehow he found a way
In that backwoods church that day

Hey, I watch "Preacher"

Good visuals in the verses that I could see from that show,

I often write from inspirations of tv shows

I enjoyed this, my only suggestion is that I would move

the chorus up to come sooner in the song.

HI Brad,

Storytelling is an art. Music is an art. One is difficult enough to master. But mastering both and then melding them into one super project is exceedingly difficult. Congrats on a job well done!

Story songs seem to elude me. I can barely make it through writing two or three verses. But I do admire those that can lyrically and musically tell a story with the imagery that helps you live it.

As Bill Monroe would call it...a true life story.

Well done!

A classic Country sound to this, Brad.

A real Jerry Jeff Walker feel to the whole thing...

"A three day growth and a saviours song" - nice touch....
