Jericha

This is a song for my wife. When we first got together I wrote a lot of songs about heart break (and still do sometimes.) After we got married she told me I had 5 years to write her a love song (or else.) Well it didn't take that long to write it but it's taken me about that long to fully produce a version that I'm happy to share with the world. If it weren't for Band in a Box this song may have never gotten finished to my liking. Thank you BIAB for being so amazingly helpful (and save marriages lol.)

I hope y'all enjoy and thank you for listening in advance.

Lyics:
(V.1)
The Life of a music man it ain't easy
and trying to love him sometimes it's hard.
You'll try to give him all your lovin'
but his soul is in the music and so is his heart.
He'll spend every moment of his ever waking time
looking for the right three chords and a way to make them rhyme.
(V.2)
Sometimes it'll seem like he just don't care
about the little things that mean so much to you. Oh but he does.
And sometimes you might wonder if you you've done something wrong,
but don't worry it ain't nothing... He's just lost in his song.
If you just have some patience and give a little time
he will find a way to show you how he feels inside when he sings
(Chorus)
Jericha, why can't you see how much I love you and what you mean to me?
My heart is in the music but it's you that sets it free
to fly up with the birds above the mountains and the sea.
You are my inspiration and the reason I go on.
I don't always know how to show it so I put it in this song.
(V.3)
I know life with me ain't easy and I'm a complicated man
but I hope you know how much I love you by the ring that's on your hand.
Sometimes it seems like we don't have much. Sometimes like nothing at all.
But I remember just how much I have when I see our picture on the wall.
Our life may not be easy most of the time
but I cannot imagine me without you in my life so I sing
(Chorus)
Jericha, why can't you see how much I love you and what you mean to me?
My heart is in the music but it's you that sets it free
to fly up with the birds above the mountains and the sea.
You are my inspiration and the reason I go on.
I don't always know how to show it so I put it in this song.

Hello Samuel,

This is a really great song. Unfiltered emotion cloaked in a great musical wrap. I think it was well worth the w. The harmonica added a real nice touch to this. Loved your heartfelt lyric and the tracks you used to to embellish your message.

it was a real joy to listen to! Seriously!!!

Also, your wife is prettier than you!

Best to you and Jericha,

Alan

Thank you Alan. Yes my wife likes the harmonica as well. It wasn't an insrumen I originally thought of using but it adds a really nice ambiance to the tune.

Oh, and I know she is prettier than me but she thinks I'm beardiful lol

A LOVElY song Sam. It reminds me slightly of the old classic by Dr. Hook. Sylvias' mother.

Nive production & good lyrics

Hi Samuel . I feel this tune would be better in the initial stages with fewer instruments and build towards the bridge. Its a great tune but it sorta starts off like a punch in the face.
I only mention this as you are a great song writer and performer but sometimes light and shade really helps to develop and a good song and makes it a great song.
Very well done.

Thank you for your compliments and suggestion. I had originally thought the same thing but when i dropped the the bass and drums at the beginning it felt rather empty. I may have to mess with it some more and see if I can find something that works.

We enjoyed the spin.

The production well supports the heartfelt lyric and vocal.

The harmonica works well. It's easy to have too much harp but you nailed the sweet spot with it.

And a great tribute to your other half!

Thanks for sharing Samuel! A lovely tune, and a lovely tribute to your wife smile I love the groove of this, and the lyrics are so heartfelt, anyone who's been in love can relate. You should be very proud of this! An incredible well written, and well balanced song.

Samuel,

That`s a cute backstory for your heartfelt song. I really liked your vocal on this and the harp works very well.
Enjoyed!

Dear Mr. Davis...

Truth be told, the passion in your voice as you sang your "love letter" to your wife, Ms. Jericha (what a unique name ! smile ), overwhelmed my hearing of the music you composed...and that's a good thing!

However, upon my second listen, the emotion in both the music and the lyrics became inseparable, especially in the line, "My heart is in the music, but it's you that sets it free..." For me, those words were the beating heart of your song.

Now that you've whetted Ms. Jericha's appetite for the sound of your soul, something tells me you're gonna be busy composing more of the same for her! laugh

Good song, lyrics are well written and great vocal. Harp and steel worked well too, fit the mood perfectly.
Nice!

Nicely done, Sammy. Sung from the heart.

Had a really nice 70's Country Rock feel and sound. A little Grateful Dead, a little Jesse Colin Young...

Good mix. Enjoyed it.

What a lovely tribute to your wife. I especially love the harmonica. Gives the song such depth! I am sure your wife absolutely adore this song.

This is a really wonderful song. They lyrics are great, the melody works, it's got a nice vibe and you've chosen nice instruments. Your vocals work really well. But I agree with Rob4580 regarding the arrangement. Taking the drums and bass out at the beginning may have just been the wrong choice of instruments. If it feels right to keep the song with a retro groove, it works as it is, but there are still ways to improve the backing track. For me, songs like this work best with a lot of backing vocals and harmonies. Doing that would keep the feeling of the fullness and lush backing but also give you the opportunity to change the various instruments to becoming backing fills that move in and out and alternate between instruments rather than use each mostly continuously. I believe this song would work really well as more of an acoustic arrangement with BG vocals and harmonies and using the electric guitar, pedal steel and harmonica alternating fills. Keep the solo, it worked.

Regardless if you work on the arrangement or not, this is a very strong song as it is and I enjoyed my listen and look forward to hearing more from you.

What a wonderful song!! She must love it. Really sweet groove, and some heartfelt emotional lyrics. I think the vocal could be a few db louder with a little verb. Very, very cool song!! Take care. Greg
