My Annabelle
© 2017 Kenny Leverett

Steady beat of the rain
Keeping time on the window pane
And I can’t count all of the times
That I’ve let you down

But I carry all of this pain
Leaving you there time and again
While I’m playing for strangers
In another strange town

Are you dreaming
My Annabelle
Counting the stars
Catching moonbeams in jars
In the darkness
Of this hotel
I’m thinking of you
My baby blue

Wasn’t ready when you came along
Little angel, heart beating so strong
But I knew that I’d love you
For all of my days

Seems the only thing that I know
Is to play this guitar
Tho it keeps us apart

Are you dreaming
My Annabelle
Soon you’ll be grown
Will you be gone

Are you dreaming
My Annabelle
Counting the stars
And boys in their cars
Are you dreaming
My Annabelle

Beautiful song Kenny. Super vocal, lyric and harmony. Piano was a really nice touch. Well done

What a pretty tune, Kenny smile I really loved the guitar work on this. The vocals sound sincere, and heartfelt. Those lyrics too - they paint a poignant picture that is all too relatable.

Great work on this, and thanks so much for sharing!

Hi Kenny. I really like the melody in this tune.
As Im a real sucker for a good harmony they also caught my attention.
Pretty ballad my friend.

Kenny,
You`ve captured a sweet longing feeling with this song ( what is it about nylon guitar that suits this mood so well?), that really takes to the heights on the chorus.
Very good lyrics!
I thought I was listening to Lucinda Williams getting into the heartbreak there in the background... just another gorgeous harmony from Janice.
A most enjoyable ballad.

Love this! You and Janice sound terrific together and this song is so pretty. Can go much beyond love this - pretty much says it all. grin

Thanks Robert,

It means a lot to me that you like the lyrics, I think you're such a good writer

I love Lucinda, haven't heard anything from her in awhile, I'll have to look her up

To me, Janice's makes this song so so much better, when she comes in on the word "angel" it gets me every time.

Kenny,

This is an absolutely beautiful song!

The instrumentation is excellent. Your piano is a nice touch. Good mix.

Your vocal is as-real-as-it-gets. Dripping sincerity - and longing. Janice's harmony is a perfect compliment - tugging at the heartstrings just that much harder.

The lyric is extroridnary. Exceptional writing. A story told as well as is possible. Top level. One of the best father-to-daughter songs I have ever heard. Ever.

Wow Kenny, beautiful.
And Janice: absolutely subtle and gorgeous backing vocal.
Just one small nit: we think the lead vocal could use a little (more) reverb.
But that's just our opinion.

Hello, Kenny

A nice pop tune!
As Torrey said, great vocal, instrument choices and production!
It seems that I am listening to one of hit songs of American oldies I do not know yet.
Enjoyed my listen a lot.

Best regards.

It seems the fall transition is bringing out the longing in everyone. That said, I really love this song and the lyrics are on point. The song has a sense of an almost melancholic nostalgia to it that I just can't shake. I adore it.

Thanks for sharing and can't wait for the next one.

Hey Rob and Anne-Marie,

thanks for the listen and kind words

good advice on the lead vocal

first time anyone has ever said to me that I could use more reverb

I did mean for it to be personal and up close, but maybe it could use

a little more, Now some folks seem to be hearing this as an oldies classic sound

which should be drowning in reverb, not what I was intending

I always appreciate good input and advice, thanks

Absolutely BEAUTIFUL Kenny!! After years of listening to and writing songs, I still don't know what makes a song work. But I DO know that your songs always do. Always love them but I don't know if any have been better than this. AWESOME!! Take care. Greg
