This is a co-write between Eddie and myself.
I've been swapping files with my good friend Eastside Eddie for
some five or six years now, since the days when a collaboration was
about as rare as doing your own dentistry. However, it's been quite a while
since the FTP has flowed between the North of England and Ohio, so
we thought we'd try a new song. We think that Country Rock is about as
close to a genre as we can get - you decide. It does at least have a banjo in it.

Eddie is singing the lead and I'm doing the oohs, aahs and harmonies.
There are three realtracks-
RT362 Acoustic Strumming
RT426 Banjo
RT587 Tenor Sax
Plus a midi-supertrack piano.
I'm playing bass and lead guitars.
Production was a joint effort.

Take The Time To Say Goodbye
It starts out well and then it always seems to end this way
You win her heart and then you turn around and walk away
You end this new romance
Without a backward glance
And tell yourself you just can't stay

Another day, another girl whose heart is on the line
That restless feeling starts to steal upon you one more time
You're walking out the door
You just can't take no more
She didn't even see the sign

So take the time to say goodbye
You know you should
You didn't mean to make her cry
But knew you would
So make the time to dry
The tear that's in her eye
And take the time to say goodbye

There's no way you can know
Just what the future holds
So write it off and let her go

Thanks to all who have time to listen.

Excellent background oohs, aahs, and harmonies

I love the feel of this

strong write, good lead vocal

sax and banjo fit so well and sound awesome

enjoyed,

Kenny
Hi ROG, Excellent work with this! The drums really slap with this. Good vocals and mixing too. Well done!
This song starts off so adorable, and then turn so sad when you really pay attention to the lyrics! It's endearing, and with the sound of the song, I think this song is a real winner! Thanks for sharing~! <3

Nice to see you guys getting together again...

Genre? I hear folk-pop-bubblegum. Has that kind of groove/feel. A catchy chorus. Super oohs/aahs/etc...

Neat opening. Interesting to combine the banjo and sax. Good mix.

A nice flow to the whole thing. Enjoyed a couple of listens.

Very nice straightforward pop rock song with a European feel. Powerful mix and I like those backing harmonies. And that tenor sax fits very well here.

Hi ROG and Eddie,

Super nice collaboration! Everything sounds perfect. The background vocals were spot on and that sax was great! the banjo is a great addition to the rest - i doubt I would have thought of that. great choice!

There are elements of several genres here. My final declaration would be Euro Rock. But call it as you may, it's just plain old excellent!

Best to both of you.

Plenty to think about with this.
Youve created this tune with lots of action and colour.
Really sounds like an old favourite.
Great tune mate. Rob

Hi Kenny,
Many thanks.
I must admit that I was surprised, myself, that the sax fitted over the banjo.
Glad you enjoyed it.

Hi Floyd.
Many thanks for the listen.
Yes, banjo and sax wasn't something I would normally put together, but that's the beauty of Realband.
It's brilliant for experimenting, sometimes with surprising results.
It's always a good sign when someone listens more than once! Cheers.

ROG.
Hey, this sounds really great. Happy belated Thanksgiving!
Sounding good, ROG! Nice intro and great feel.
Love the background oohs and aahs, and tasty lead work throughout.
Did you use BIAB for the drums or something else?
Seems like folks are hearing all kinds of vibes here so we’ll throw in ours:

Traveling Wilburys with a country edge!

Guitars, vocals (BGV and lead), banjo/sax notion and the mix are all hittin’ the note.

Cool collab!!

J&B
Wow, you guys nailed this! It's wonderfully catchy, and that groove is infectious. I love the harmonies in the background throughout the whole tune. It has a ton of character and life to it, and I found it extremely pleasant to listen to.

Great work, and thanks so much for sharing!

Hi Dave.
The drums on this one are samples which we've made-up ourselves over the years.
We play them back via midi from the Drum Source sample player.
Thanks for the positive review.

You need to read the sub-text, Eddie.
If you're singing it means they don't have to listen to me!

I agree with Kenny!! BGs are amazing!! You always have such BIG sounding mixes. I don't know exactly what I'd call the genre but I love the feel. That sax is killer!! Great listen!!! Take care. Greg

Hi Greg,
Many thanks for the kind words, especially about the backing vocals.
They take a lot of time and effort, so it's great to get positive feedback.
Pleased you liked the song.
Cheers, ROG.
Cool song. I don't think i would call it country rock though. The first think that comes to mind is the band Chicago but I'm not really sure what style that is either lol

Hi Samuel.
Yeah, we weren't any too sure either. Chicago is quite acceptable!
The main thing is that you thought it was cool.
Many thanks for that.

Yeah... I have to agree, more pop than anything. Not really close to country or even country rock despite the banjo. In fact, I'd drop the banjo and go with the pop/rock thing.

That sax makes it rock.... and I thought I could hear the banjo banging away the entire time in the background. If that's the case, drop it out and clean it up and let the song be what it wants to be which is pop. With the sax I heard a Springsteen kind of thing.... but more like Bruce's sax man Clarence sets in with someone else.

Nice mix and good all around job.

I thought that or the Meatloaf/Steinman stuff when they used Edgar Winter for sax work.

Hi Rog and Eddie
Sounds sort of Motown to me.
Really enjoyed the arrangement, very full, and Eddie doing a nice even pop voice.
Love the sax.
Looking forward to more.
Cheers.

Yeah, Eddie sings that stuff so much better than me!

Hi ROG and Eddie,

Very nice, we immediately recognized the saxophone realtrack (we used it in our song Surrender).
We were particularly impressed by your very professional ooohs, aahhs and harmonies in this one laugh
But then again... we know you always deliver top quality!

Rog is a really strong engineer. I have sent stuff east and when he finishes it and sends it back west he has used plugins and effects that are like some kind of pixie dust or something. His reverbs are either better reverbs, or more likely, he knows how to use them better than I do, but my songs come back from him so big and alive that is can only be explained by his ability with effects. He sent this song to me for singing completely dry, and I did my vocal and the lyric tweaks I did and sent it back. When I heard the next phase it was after he did the backing vocals. I then suggested the guitar fills and the sax call and response part at the end, which he added (and might have added even without my mentioning them), and then sent me back this HUGE sounding mix.

He has one of my songs now, and soon I will have vocals added to another old song that we worked on some years ago. More on that later because it's a story unto itself.
