Auld Lang Syne on Youtube

Listen or download the song from my website

Hello all

I hope it is not too early for my annual Christmas song (only this one is really a New year's one). I am going away shortly so I thought I would get it done early. It is, of course, the public domain song "Auld Lang Syne"

Realtracks are:

Here is my (rather simple) take on the lyrics:

Should auld acquaintance be forgot, and never brought to mind
Should auld acquaintance be forgot, and days of auld lang syne
For auld lang syne, for auld lang syne
Should auld acquaintance be forgot, and days of auld lang syne
We too have run about the hills, and gathered up flowers fine
We wandered many weary foot since auld lang syne

We too have sorted in the brook from morning sun til night,
but the seas between us have roared and swelled since auld lang syne

For auld lang syne, for auld lang syne,
The seas between us have roared and swelled since auld lang syne

The road here is My trusted friend, and nearly a hand of thyne,
We'll take a cup of kindness yet for auld lang syne.

For auld lang syne are here, for auld lang syne,
We'll take a cup of kindness yet for auld lang syne!

Comments are most welcome!

You did an awesome job here, Joanne smile I can't believe how pretty this is! It's so gentle, and so peaceful. It's also definitely an earworm, for me at least. It's got some catchy melodies in here, and the lyrics are engaging and get stuck in your head as well.

Fantastic work! Thanks so much for sharing this with us smile

Hi Joanne.

A very gentle and wistful version of Robbie Burns poem.
Takes me back to a childhood when it was bellowed out in halls across the country at midnight.

Best wishes.

You did a really good job with this Joanne. It's hard to add much to some of the older PD tunes but your performance and the backing track made for a fresh approach. It's very pretty but has a slight" world weary" edge to it that really adds charm. Enjoy your trip and the Holidays.

I agree with my friend Floyd! You've really captured the essence of this beautiful song!! I always think of the end of It's a Wonderful Life when I hear this (which is one of my favorite films). Great job!! Take care. Greg

Hi Deryk - Thank you so much. I am glad you appreciate the more gentle approach

Scott - Thanks for the listen

Rich - Yes I remember that as well. We even did it at News Years growing up in Zimbabwe.

Janice and Bud - Thank you. It was influenced by the James Taylor version of the song.

Ember - Thank you. Yes I needed to get it done early smile

Joe - It is a very different relaxing version. Go check out the JT version. He also did an Xmas album in a very similar JT style

David - Glad you enjoyed the video. It took a little bit of fiddling around but I think it is quite cute.

Floyd - Thank you. Nice to hear that you consider it one of my best. Appreciated

Kenny - Thanks for listening and commenting

Rob - I appreciate it.

Dave - Thank you for listening and taking the time to comment.

Ah Danny - thank you! Ever the gentleman. Merry Christmas to you too

Peter - Thanks

Greg - I dont think I have seen "Its a Wonderful life". Maybe I should go and dig it up. Thanks for the heads up.

For anybody who is interested, my producer and I did a "Christmas Trap" version of this song for a songtradr opportunity.

Dear Ms. Cooper...

This is the first time I listened to someone sing "Auld Lang Syne" and provide the lyrics for it. Before, it always was difficult for me to hear clearly the words that were being sung, no matter who performed it.

Now that I've experienced the song more fully, it doesn't sound as sad as it used to. The hopeful tone comes through in the text and through your gentle voice.

Merry Christmas & Happy New Year, Ms. Cooper!

Good old Robbie Burns - what beautiful words. And what a sincere and beautiful arrangement from you, Joanne. This tune is always sung to bring in the New Year and always breaks me up - and this is no exception.
Wonderful use of BB - I particularly the OD guitar just popping in and out - just enough. Superb vocal too and great harmony. Very Special.
Ian
Ps - Did you know that "For Auld Lang Syne" translates literally into "For Times Gone By" ?
