Just the Way We Are
By David Snyder

V1

Well I’ve never been to New York City
I’ve never seen Fifth Avenue
And if they ask me to order some fillet mignons girl
You know I wouldn't have a clue

PreChorus

And I’ve never looked too deep inside of me
Cause I don’t think there’s too much there to know

Chorus:

But if you don’t mind
My dirty old truck
And you don’t mind this dirty old bar
And you don’t mind this dusty old house
I’ll return the favor...And take us
just the way we are...Just the way we are girl

V2

Well I’ve never made more than a million dollars
but I know how spit tobacco on a country night
and I know how to pound some shooters after hours
and I know how to dodge a trooper running every damned red light

PreChorus

And I’ve never looked too deep inside my soul
Cause I don’t think there’s too much there to know

Chorus:

But if you don’t mind
My dirty old truck
And you don’t mind this dirty old bar
And you don’t mind this dusty old house
I’ll return the favor...And take us
just the way we are...Just the way we are girl

Bridge

And there’s something ‘bout the smell of a Georgia pine
That’s putting only one thing on my mind
Try hard enough and you might crack my spine
But if it feels good, girl well that’s just fine ….

REPEAT CHORUS

"fillet mignons" hahahaha

What a bundle of contradictions. Beautiful backing and a lovely melody and then...hmmmm...you sweep us into the sentiment and then comes a line like the above smile

As Janice says, and I said it before, it makes her smile like she does when listening to one of her favs - Hayes Carll.

Well done Mr Snyder. We enjoyed it.

PS "For all the beautiful women out there who take us just the way we are even where there is no good logical reason to." Something I will ponder thru eternity.
Hi David.

Another classic here.
Enjoy the voice you use.

Try hard enough and you might crack my spine

Yeah. Well.
Cheers.
Lyrics based in reality we can all relate too. Ordinary folks, ordinary souls and ordinary lives, just like most of us. I love the raw truths you bare here. Good lyrics and compilation.
David,
Sweet- heck you even made spitting tobacco sound romantic!
I guess its cause the singer has heart and that comes through.
Original, funny and sincere at the same time... also very nicely sung.

Robert
David,

To me this sounds like a country-toned Springsteen. A really great song and delivery. Right up there with your best stuff.

Loved it.

Bob
One of your best, My Snyder.

An exceptional write. Start to finish.

A beautiful production (also one of your best).
A heartfelt vocal delivery (also one of your best).

A joy to listen to.

Really well done, David! Loved the fillet mignons line.

Great lyrics, performance, and production, enjoyed the listen!

Thanks guys! And thanks so much for turning me on to Hayes Carll.

He is a hoot!!! Yeah, I see the brotherhood.

smile

Hey Rich,

Thanks man.

"Yeah. Well."

That pretty much sums it up I know!!

smile

Thanks Donna. I really appreciate that. I was raised country, so it's hard to cover it up.

smile

Good look with your FAWM work!!

Thanks a lot Robert!!

smile
OK..... I'll admit to bypassing this one a few times.....

One of these days I'll learn that I need to put your tunes on my top of my you gotta listen to this song right now list....

You're becoming quite the writer David. This is good.... no, that's not doing it justice.... this is GOOD.

I agree with Floyd's comments..... one of your best and man, that vocal is really sounding good. Whatever you did on that one, try to do that on all of them.

One of the best yet.
David, maybe it's just me, but I think you've upped your game with this one! The vocal and mix here sounds better than ever to me! Another great effort from you! Thanks, Torrey

Thanks Bob! I am so glad you liked it!

smile

Thank Floyd!

It's been hard to keep on these forum these days. So much great stuff coming out, including yours!

Looks like the year is off to a hot start.

smile
David, this is your best to date. Your vocal is excellent, the lyrics were outstanding, the backing tracks and your playing fit perfectly and the mix was as good as it could get, i.e. perfect.

This is a keeper.
Well.... I'm too late!
Wasn't on the forum on Valentine's Day. grin
But listened anyway!
If I would have heard it the 14th I would have loved it.
Pity...... wink

Anne-Marie
David,

I really like the sentiments you express in these lyrics. What stood out to me most, though, was how very well everything -- singing, arranging, writing, production -- worked hand-in-hand to create an excellent work. This is definitely one to be proud of.

All the best,
Noel
I loved this tune David. The acoustic was so nice. Super vocal. Very cool lyric. Loved the mix as well. Everything so well balanced but distinct..

Thanks Dave,

But wait! What about fillet mignons. Did I misspell it or something??

smile

Wow, thanks Herb. That really means a lot coming from you. The guy who got me started on BIAB!!

smile

Thanks so much for all your help on the journey man.

Thanks Torrey!

Anne-Marie,

It just kills me when European women say:

"It's a pity." I love it. Even when they say it's a pity it sounds so beautiful to me, and I almost go off my rocker.

The way they say it, well it just can't be done that way anywhere else.

I think I am going to write my new song in honor of you and call it:

Surprise!!!

"It's a Pity."

For all the beautiful women out there who take us just the way we are

Where do you find one of these women??

Take care. Greg

Thank you Noel. That is so kind. I am really glad you liked it!

Thanks Dave, Hope I am not repeating myself but this thread counter is confusing me and I am losing track.

Anyway, we should barbecue some fillet mignons sometime and boil them in beer mate. That would be a good time.

Cheers!!

smile

Thanks Scott! I am really glad you liked it man.
Man,

I think I covered everybody! This threaded mode thing works sometimes and other times...well...

Well, anyway, thanks everybody.

I have to get caught up now.

So much stuff on the board.

Holy smokes!!!!!!!!!!
David

Seemed to have missed this - so I'll just echo what was said before (all the good stuff) - and add another name to the bottom of the list after your final thank you's.

Peter
Hello, David

Excellent song!
The city feel that this melody has got is wonderful.
It is just the opposite of the country.
Enjoyed my listen a lot.

By the way, there are customs to give gifts on Valentine's Day also in Japan, but contrary to the US, we gift chocolates from women to men.
Chocolates are handed everywhere(of course at school and at work). It is a big event in February in Japan.
Attractive men get lots of chocolates on the day.
But it is hard story from then on.
We have customs to gift back in Japan, so the men received chocolates must gift back double chocolates to each woman on March 14.
The more attractive, the more financial burden is hard for men on the day.
Sorry, it was an unnecessary story.

Best regards.
