Well, they say they are looking for classic country, and they don't want nothing but the hits so that's all we're writin'. The lyrics were inspired by the new bestselling book "The Many Lives and Loves of Tater Totts."

Herb said I should do a Lo Fi Version. Help me pick!!

A Wanted Man
by David Snyder

Produced and Engineered by Tater Totts

V1

Well I used to have myself a lot of women
'Til I found out that my name had got round
It seems the girls don’t like
Sharing all that much
Now they run me out of
Thirteen dozen towns, and

CH

They don’t want me in Oklahoma
Alabama or North Dakota
no one cares at all
exactly where I am
Oh I wish that I was still
The King of the Hill
Yes I wish that I was still
A wanted man

V2

One day you know I might end up in prison
For stealin’ hearts and running from the law
But when that warden comes
And shows me to my cell
I’ll swear I loved
Everything I saw, and

CH

They don’t want me in California
Tennessee or Minnesota
no one cares at all
exactly where I am
Oh I wish that I was still
The King of the Hill
Yes I wish that I was still
A wanted man

Inst.

CH

They don’t want me in Carolina
Arizona, or Indiana
no one cares at all
exactly where I am
Oh I wish that I was still
The King of the Hill
Yes I wish that I was still
A wanted man
Yes I wish that I was still
A wanted man
Yes I wish that I was still
A wanted man

Great job David, the band is on fire, and your vocals and lyrics make this one a true Country Classic!!!

Hi, David.

Clever write, nice emotive singing. Catchy, nice chorus.

The harmonica riff after "...in prison" was perfect, because I could just see Tater sitting in the cell blowing his harp.

I think it's too full sounding for what you're shooting at.

Strip it down.... 4 instruments...... and cut the lows and mids....

try to replicate as closely the example they give you.

Thanks man.

Hey I just pasted a lo fi "Han" version. Help me pick!!!!

Thanks Dave!

Hmmm.

Interesting Herb. So you think they want lo fi?

Maybe I'll do a lo fi version and send it to ya.

I thought they meant "in the style of but not "in the mix of..."

You think they want it to sound 1940s radio?

Could very well be a movie scene with an old radio playing in the background...set in the 50's in the south. You never know what the scene is unless they tell you. I had a chance to write something like that to a TAXI listing a while back. They actually told us what was happeining on screen and background info on the movie.

But if they wanted a modern sounding mix, they might have given an example from a Hank Williams and friends cover/tribute CD more recently released. Of course, I could be over thinking it too.

Herb,

I just did a Lo Fi version for you and pasted it under the Hi Fi Version.

I have enough credits to send a lo fi version and a Hi i version so oh Hayle why not?

Let them pick.

smile

Good thinking by the way.

I might like the lo fi version better.

Hi, David !

I sat here wondering
where we´d be hidin´you
from all those women ?

To be serious, this
is one of your absolute
best country tunes I´ve
heard !

Congrats to you wanted man !!!;)

Cheers
Dani

Split the difference.

In the first mix the acoustic guitars are kind of muddy - heavy in the low end, not really sounding like acoustic guitars (but maybe that is what you intended). I don't recall a mix from you before that had acoustic guitar like that.

The second one sounds better, but the vocal needs some "warmth". Roll off the highs (on the vocal).

But, those are just observations. Not knowing what "the need" is... so I could be off-base.

David,

I LOVE this song and LOVE the LoFi version! Tremendously good!

I want a whole album of these!

Outstanding stuff.

David, I view/listen to this as a work in progress. With that said, I feel you have the foundation for great country tune! Really like where you are taking the chorus on this! Thanks, Torrey

This was such a cool song! Glad you just went with both, because there was no way I was going to be able to help you pick. Really clever write on the lyrics, as always.

Col tune David. Super country tune. Well done

I like the lofi version as well really like the steele guitar.

David, I like the write here. I think I prefer the the lo-fi version. Good luck with the submission, Tom

Nice work on this, David! I think I prefer the lo-fi version just a little bit, although I am admittedly a little bias as I really like the lo-fi sound. Although they are definitely equal - just a matter of preference smile

Great job, and thanks for sharing!

This is great David! Tater is in the house! Totally enjoyed - I like the lofi better of these two. Good luck with it.

Well I liked the original version most but both are great. As others noted, the lyrics here are very clever ... love it. The vocals are perfect for the song. And by the way, I definitely resonate with the actual message of the song :-)

Cool ole school...

As you know with Songtadr all you get a sketchy description and a youtube example.

I like the low-fi version. My only nit is that the mandolin is way modern sounding with that gorgeous and well recorded fat tone. Mandolins from, say, the 60's back were tinny sounding -- they played incredible instruments so it had to be the studios that felt that sound was appropriate. They had a staccato attack with virtually no resonance. I would love to hear what the classic Bill Monroe songs would sound like recorded well.

Hope it works for you.

Thanks Floyd,

I took your advice and made those changes.

Some Real track guitars are muddier than others, and depending on what else is in the mix, you have to change the level of brightness to match--or lower it.

But the exercise did force me to create half a dozen presets for different occasions so it was well worth the time and effort.

Thanks man.

Bob Dylan Goes Country smile David I'm very impressed with this tune. Like both versions. Guess you have to decide. I have a few horses in the same race so all the best. Great tune. Rob

Superb lyrics and solid melody.
Enjoyed the first version most.

Cheers.

Hi David,

As others have said before me, clever writing! You certainly have the knack for being creative and taking that creativity to places that many of us would never think about. I admire your skills.

By the way, I see Tater is stretching his wings and moving into production! Looks like he's fast becoming an all-rounder.

All the best,
Noel

I like the thinner arrangement but it could still use a bass and the solos restricted to a single instrument - preferably the harmonica as it's present in the rest of the song.

Thanks Josie! I think I like the lo fi too.

Happy Easter!

Hello, David

A very nice country tune!
Your singing on this is very impressed.
As many others said, I also prefer the LoFi version.
Enjoyed my listen a lot on both versions.

Best regards.
