https://soundcloud.com/torrey-bliss/greater-daysAs many of you know, we sometimes receive bad news at the time we are least ready for it. We can let it make us bitter or we can look forward to a better day that's coming. I used my situation to create a song. Maybe someone can relate! The lyrics are a collaboration with my daughter. Thanks for listening, I really do appreciate it! Thanks, Torrey

Everything about this is great, vocals, harmonies, instruments, production. I am now feeling like a total beginner. THis is awesome music!!!!!
Really nice job on this one, Torrey
I looove the guitars in the intro. It reminds me of Toto in the 80's almost. It is wonderfully smooth and so dang smooth. The instrumental is almost velvetty - and of course, your vocal performance is here near flawless.
Not a thing I'd change here - great job and thanks for sharing!
When I saw the instrument list, I knew I'd like the track, but... you
nailed this song!
Catchy chorus, great arrangement. Awesome guitars parts. This is one of those songs that makes me want to play it again and again. Definitely worth taking the time to put a stellar vocal on.
A nit: the mix lacks punch. Maybe I'm just used to everyone compressing the hecks out of their songs, but I'd love to hear a louder mix.
Anyway, great job. I'm listening through for a third time, and that just about never happens.
Torrey,
Wonderfully smooth, uplifting and catchy; you own this style of soulful pop!
Maybe you hear something in the vocal I don`t, `cos they sound great to me.
Those twin (or delayed?) guitars are spine tingling good and the whole production seriously professional.
Robert
Torrey, You are a constant source of amazement. Your arranging skills are over the top.
Torrey
A really wonderful complex composition that sounds great.
Great songwriting.
Peter
Hi Torrey,
When I read your intro...
As many of you know, we sometimes receive bad news at the time we are least ready for it. We can let it make us bitter or we can look forward to a better day that's coming. I used my situation to create a song. Maybe someone can relate!
...I sat here thinking, "Yup, I can totally relate to that". I've been having a bit of an adventure in this surprised-by-bad-news arena over the last few years myself. Music most definitely helps.
You've done a great job with this song. The composing, arranging and mixing are sensational. Robert called this 'soulful pop' and I agree with him wholeheartedly. You're the forum master in this genre!
All the best,
Noel
P.S. A phrase that I regularly find myself saying these days is the last line of "Gone With The Wind" where Scarlett O'Hara says, "After all, tomorrow is another day".
Hello, Torrey
Another Paul McCartney song!
As Robert said, wonderfully smooth, uplifting and catchy; you own this style of soulful pop!
And I entirely agree with Noel.
You've done a great job with this song.
The composing, arranging and mixing are sensational.
You're the forum master in this genre!
Your Vocals are also very comfortable as usual.
Your Guitars, too.
Enjoyed my listen a lot.
Best regards.
Shigeki Adachi
Doesn't get much better than this IMHO!
Excellent composition and performance, enjoyed the listen!
A great quality production from start to finish.
The harmonies give dimension, the choice of style is perfect, to musicality leaves nothing to be desired.
Excellent.
Torrey,
Great song and vocal. Love the track selection and mix.
Much enjoyed!
Bob
Vocals sound fine to us. "Soulful pop" is, indeed a great description.
For us, irrespective of genre, we tend to judge on whether or not the song has soul...and you have it in spades.
We hope this inspired production helps you work through the difficulties you alluded to.
As always it takes us several listens to appreciate all of the complexities in your productions and this is a fine example of that.
Enjoyed it!
J&B
cliftond, I appreciate so much that fact that you have taken time to listen and comment! When I listen to your stuff it inspires me!! I have realized I tend to bury my vocals in the mix sometimes and listening to your material reminds me to bring it out front a little more! Thanks again, T
Hi Torrey Bliss, Thank you for sharing this with us. This definitely has a classic rock vibe. Powerful lyrics too. Well done!
Amazing!
Your recordings are always pro level, but you've outdone yourself here.
Again we detect that Donald Fagen feel.
And then all the instruments you play by yourself...
Rob and Anne-Marie
Thanks Deryk for taking time to listen and comment! I appreciate it! T
A big WOW on this one, Torrey!
A great listen. Loved it.
Good write. Super melody. Superb arrangement. Excellent mix.
One of my favorites from your.
Has a real Todd Rundgren sound and feel to it (like it came right off one of his records). A little hint of Boz Skaggs, too.
Excellent all around. (The vocal "pops" - don't mess with it too much)
fj
Thanks David for listening and commenting! I appreciate it! I was still doing a lot of editing at the time you listened and since posted a new mix that is a little louder. I have refused though to get caught up in the “volume wars” because when I try to do that I seem to lose all the definition and clarity in my mix. Thanks again. T
Sounds like Jeff Lynn singing & playing with Michael McDonald (?) era Doobies.
NOW, that could be awful but your bvox don't have the terrible Lynn stacking/synth thing.
Possible a little Steely Dan as well - from that general late 70s world anyway.
Well played and recorded.
Spit & polish mate.
Well done, very well done.
Thanks so much Robert! As for the vocals, I was not satisfied with many of the background parts because I was hearing several flat notes here and there that I have since fixed and posted an updated version. There are still things that need attention but it's much closer now to what I envision! The guitars are just two tracks with a harmony line played on the second track. Thanks for taking time to listen! I appreciate it! T
Doesn't get much better than this IMHO!
Excellent composition and performance, enjoyed the listen!
I completely agree.
I think this is your best to date. Everything is spot on!
This is a keeper.
Torrey, You continue to amaze me. I love this song!
Thanks Gary! I appreciate it! T
'Soulful pop' has been said about this song - it is my favorite genre and you are really the master of it
Great melody, chords, arrangement, mix. George Harrison, Steely Dan, Jeff Lynne come to my mind. And always pleasure to listen to your strong interpretation. Excellent collaboration, the message of the touching lyrics is simple and universal, easy to relate.
Janne
This song caught me off guard when it started. The intro was so cool. Then I recognized the synth. Haven't heard it in such a long time. Very cool. Super vocal, backtrack and choice of instruments. Guitar was excellent.. I was tryimg to place the sound and rayc mentioned the Jeff Lynne vibe. I also got that. Well done
Thanks Peter! I appreciate it! T
Noel, I always appreciate the time you take to listen and comment on the songs! Thanks for the kind words, I appreciate it! T
Torrey, this is so great in every way. The production, arrangement and mix are top notch. The lyrics are great and it is so cool to have another lyric writer close by. Your vocals are at an all time best. I can't say enough good things about this song. Highly enjoyable, all pro product, Tom
Ho Torrey. You are an expert in reproducing that seventies feel. This is no exception. Love the intro and the full bodied harmonies. Great write my friend.
Rob
Shigeki, thanks for taking time to listen and comment! I appreciate it! T
Thanks Dave! I appreciate it! T
Thanks VideoTrack for the kind words! I appreciate it! T
Oh yeah, I can relate! Hand up!
This song made me smile.
I think we can all relate to this one.
Great sound man.
Hi Torrey,
you have intros really down,I just went through ur intros on soundcloud, its an education.Greater days has a real ELO feel to me and is a fine cool tune,it has something in every corner which is what I really like in a song, but the intro music which you use throughout is perfect and vocals too.Sedona Sunrize is another example also has such a perfect intro i would listen to the song only for that part ,great stuff Hugh
Thanks for listening and commenting Bob! I appreciate it! T
A stunning track Torrey. Your voice is terrific and gives the track a top drawer pro sheen.
I loved the harmony guitar work, perfect for this song's melodies. The whole thing is A1 for production.
I'm going to stick my neck out here, but I think one of your favourite artists is Todd Rundgren?
Thanks for the excellent listen, just replaying it now.
John
Thanks J&B! Your comments mean a lot to me! T
Thanks Joe! I appreciate that! T
Torrey,
I love everything about this one! Great message, great vocals, love the intro. The arrangement is very well done. This is my favorite of what I've heard from you so far.
Steve
Loved this Torrey! Thanks so much for sharing.
Thanks so much Rob and Anne-Marie! I truly appreciate your comments! T
This was very well done and produced , I like your style.
Thanks Floyd! I appreciate it! T
Hi, Torrey !
Oh what a super tune !
This is my new favourite
Torreytune ! Well, to
tell it as it is - it is
absolutely fantastic !!!

When I saw the instrument list, I knew I'd like the track, but... you nailed this song!
A nit: the mix lacks punch. Maybe I'm just used to everyone compressing the hecks out of their songs, but I'd love to hear a louder mix.
Couldnt agree more. Superb!
I also think that the backing needed a bit of Mastering "Ooomph". Its really good but just needs (IMO only) a bit of a compression boost.
BTW - how did you get hat octaving sounding Lead line please? did you use a Pitchfork or something?
Cheers
ian
Thanks rayc for the listen and comment! I was purposely shooting for a late 70’s Doobies’ ala Michael McDonald sound on this (if only I could sing like him-one of my favorites). Anyway, I always wanted to try one in that vein and got a little inspiration and went for it. Thanks, T
Thanks Mario! I really appreciate it! T
Josie, thanks for listening and commenting! I appreciate it! T
Hi Torrey.
Sort of an unusual style but very very good.
What a rich sound.
Cheers.
Thanks Janne for listening and commenting! I appreciate it! T
This is so wonderful!!! I hope I can make something like this someday.
Thanks Scott! I always appreciate your comments! T
Thanks Tom! Your comments always mean a lot to me! T
Thanks Rob for the kind words! T
Thanks David for the listen!! T
This is great! Got that late 1970's radio sound. England Dan, Doobie Brothers, that sort of thing. Well done.
Thanks Hugh for all those kind words! I also try to make the intro very inviting to the listener and set the stage for the lyrics. To me, along with the chorus, the intro is a vital part of a good song! Thanks again, T
Wow! Torrey. Professional all the way. Great job. Just doesn't get any better than this. Keep 'em coming.
Bob
Thanks John for your comments! Oddly enough, back in the day, I never listened to or appreciated Todd Rundgren. I have only recently over the last few years come to appreciate his music and style. It probably does show up in some of my compositions. Thanks, T
Thanks Steve! I always appreciate your comments! T
Wow Torrey, yes, I can hear the British vibe on this one. Absolutely fantastic all around!
Mike B.
Thanks for listening and commenting Catherine! I appreciate it! T
beatmaster, thanks for taking the time to listen and comment on the song! T
Thanks Dani! I really appreciate your kind words! T
Thanks for checking out the song! I think I’ve got this one about as loud as I can get it without re-recording it. I have compression on everything already and putting any more in the master stereo channel only seems to muddy the mix. I should have recorded wither hotter input signals. The guitar lead sound was simply achieved by recording two tracks/parts on separate channels with one playing a harmony line above the other. Thanks again, T
Thanks Rich! I appreciate it! T
A very enjoyable listen, Torrey.
Much thought and effort has evidently gone into creating this soulful little gem, and it has clearly paid off.
Those relaxing harmony vocals and that guitar sound takes me back to the 70's and I detect shades of many smooth pop classics in there.
The composition, performance and arrangement are all of a high standard and they ably demonstrate your impressive skills to the full.
Great job.
Torrey...another great listen. I love the uplifting message, especially delivered in such a professional arrangement. This forum just freaking amazes me with how many great songs and song writers are out there (and intimidates me more than a little bit, for the same reason). This song just adds to my amazement. Great job!
Thanks Froi for checking out the song! I appreciate it! I think your material is great, it always has a catchy vibe to it! T
Thanks for listening and commenting Phil! I appreciate it! T
Thanks Bob for listening and commenting! I appreciate it! T

a superior level.
All my compliments for all the instruments you've played in so excellent way.
Sergio
Thanks so much Andy! I appreciate you taking time to listen and comment! T
Hi Torrey. This is just great! Has a kind of a Beatles flavour. Love those backing vocals and the production is spot on.
Thanks kybordr! I appreciate your comments very much! By the way, I feel that you are posting so really good material! T
Thanks Sergio! I always appreciate your comments! T
Thanks Joanne for listening and commenting! I truly appreciate it! T

Kind regards,
Deej
Thanks Deej for taking the time to listen and comment on my music! I appreciate it! T
Torrey,
This is great stuff!
I don't comment much because my recent stroke has left my right hand paralyzed, and it's tedious typing with one hand.
Keep up the excellent work. You might want to wait till tomorrow to bump this up with your reply. This deserves to be heard.
Regards,
Bob
Bob,
Thanks so much for listening and commenting, especially with the extra effort it took to do so! I was unaware of the struggle you are challenged with at the this time. My prayers and best wishes are with you for a full recovery. I appreciate your support! Thanks, Torrey
Nice work on this one... That bass line is very additive... I really enjoyed listening!
It’s probably all been said before in the responses, but I really loved this song, and I think, A to Z, it was close to perfection.
Thanks for sharing and inspiring me to strive for the best!
Thanks Jim for taking time to listen and comment! I appreciate it! T
Thanks Tano for those kind positive words! I appreciate it! T
I looove the guitars in the intro. It reminds me of Toto in the 80's almost.
Interesting how different people can makes different connections from the hearing exactly the same things, innit
- For me the first thing that sprung to mind upon hearing that intro was late 70's Lennon or even more so Harrison (both of Beatles alumni, obviously)
Nicely done, real Pro production from start to finish
Thanks for your comments Eddie! I appreciate them! T
