Hello, beatmaster

Yes, this is exactly a 50's pop tune.
I think that vocal atmosphere and lead guitar well reproduced the sounds at that time.
And also Bass.
Enjoyed my listen a lot.

Best regards.

beatmaster,

A pleasant listen. Nice simple production and a crisp clean mix.

Has a Ricky Nelson "Garden Party" feel...

I think Floyd hit the nail on the head. He usually does. Had to check my calendar - yep, 2018, not 1958. Smooth backing tracks and super vocal. Thanks for a terrific listen.

Very catchy song with good vocals and mix...to my ears this has commercial potential for a show ( HeartBeat) about the period.
Well done.

I just read a really interesting article by a Nashville producer on how to write a hit song.

He said the most important feature by far--#1--is to put the title in the chorus and use it in the chorus at least twice if not three times, and MAKE SURE the title is the last line of the chorus. He said that was the #1 trait of 95% of the songs that make it to the top of the charts.

Suggested structure?

V, CH, V, CH inst CH (no bridge unless you HAVE to), prechoruses ok 50% of the time as long as you don't repeat lines in prechoruses 1 and 2. And NO third verses. But a BIG third chorus.

SO, it is very interesting to me that this seemingly simple but catchy song reflecting the golden age of happy 50s music is actually a textbook format for what some producers who do research on these things are calling the hit song rules of June 2018.

Hmmmmmmm.

All you have to do is take this same formula, change it to a different style in BIAB, add some hip hop beats and....

Ok gotta run. smile

Good one beatmaster. You followed the "rules" on this and it really works.

It's a miniature lesson in songwriting form. Thanks. Well done.

Very warm mix on the music as well.

Laid back and enjoyable. The arrangement is so nice the guitar licks are just perfect in the break. And I loved your voice on it too. Great job!

Flashback to the 50's. I loved music from that era and you have done it justice with this song. The first person I thought of was Ricky Nelson.

This is one super song and you should do more like this.

Thanks David

The article you refer to would love to have a read on that.

I've always kind of done it this way, I guess it is because the 50s 60s era to me are amazing.
The K.I.S.S. method was the way I was taught, Keep It Short and Simple.

Beatmaster,

Here ya go. I am going to post this elsewhere because it is an amazing resource. He actually has charted out the hits by hand.

It is amazing to study this. I created a spotify playlist to study these charts and the arrangements and build while I am listening to them.

As I said the song you just posted is "by the book" from the second video in the second link--how to write a country hit.

Yes, as others have mentioned this certainly has the classic late 50's vibe happening. And that's ok in my book!

Vocals sounds great, good job on the production.

Guitar solo is perfect, is that you playing?

Good song, enjoyed the listen!

We agree with the "Garden Party" groove.

We are BIG fans of relatively simple productions regarding the number of tracks.
This production leaves a lot of room for each track letting them not step on each other but still work together.

it has the "live" sound of a band that has played together for a while.

And your vocal/guitar performances are nailed! Really like the upfront (but not too much so) vocal.

Nice...we enjoyed it.

Really nice work on this one, beatmaster smile You nailed the old school light rock vibe on this one. I like how delicate and pretty it sounds, and your vocal performance is right on the money. Really well mixed too, and a nice groove to boot.

Great job, and thanks so much for sharing!

Cool stuff!! I like the vibe. Definitely a retro feel...reminds me of Ray Davies and the Kinks. You've got something really pleasant here!! Take care. Greg
