Welcome To The Anthropocene

A cautionary tale straight out of the headlines (The Geology Times). Hope we pronounced it correctly.
Anthropocene:
"relating to or denoting the current geological age, viewed as the period during which human activity has been the dominant influence on climate and the environment."

Leon- Vocals and Lyrics
Once again we are privileged to have Janice Merritt sing backing vocals
I played the guitars

Mark Douthit played the hot Real Track Sax and did some interesting growls at the end of his solos

Welcome to the Anthropocene

Welcome to the Anthropocene
Could this be the greatest epoch there has ever been?
Say goodbye to the good old Holocene
Welcome to the Anthropocene

The great acceleration
All the indicators on the rise
A time for songs and jubilation
Though that greenhouse thing did come as a surprise

I know we lost a frog or two
And a couple of Gorillas
But there are plenty more in zoos
To tantalise and thrill us

And how about the great pacific vortex?
What a marvel that is to behold
All those tiny little plastic bits, twice as big as Texas
Other oceans got ‘em too, I’m told

Welcome to the Anthropocene
Could this be the greatest epoch there has ever been?
Say goodbye to the good old Holocene
Welcome to the Anthropocene

Particulates and what not, drifting through the air
And nitrogen and phosphorus, aluminium and oil;
Poke around enough I guess you’ll find ‘em all down there
And just a little hint of radiation in the soil

But take a look at good old spaceship earth
She may be blowing smoke but there are light years on the clock
Ignore the crazy talk about some crisis that is looming
There’s plenty more for you and me to dig out of this rock

Welcome to the Anthropocene
Could this be the greatest epoch there has ever been?
Say goodbye to the good old Holocene
Welcome to the Anthropocene

Oh yea, welcome to the Anthropocene
Could this be the greatest epoch there has ever been?
Say goodbye to the good old Holocene
Welcome to the Anthropocene

I'm betting this is the only song ever written with "Anthropocene" in the title? Very creative writing.

Very cool song, love the groove. Sax is awesome! Love your guitar work too, right in the pocket, and trading licks with the sax works really well.

The addition of Janice really works, blends well with Leons vocal.

Nice one!

Really nice work here! There's some really intriguing lyrics here, and tune displays a strong understanding of song writing. Some good progressions hear, the the groove is great and helps push the whole thing along. Top notch vocal delivery too smile

Great job, and thanks for sharing!

This song is paced so well. I really admire what you've done with this song. Wonderful job.

Contrary to what Dave said, there actually is another song with Anthropocene in the title. Could this be the start of an exciting new musical trend? wink

That said, this offering can certainly stand tall in that ever-expanding catalog. Nice arrangement, good lyrics, well sung. Plus, ah-loo-min-ee-um! laugh

Rockin' tune Peter!

Really enjoyed this!

What a cool tune I thought I was going to have to Google the title so thanks for the description.
First Leon’s vocal was just excellent. He has a great story telling voice kind of like Floyd.

Janice’s background vocal were So complimentary.
There two voice blend so well together

That sax was a nice touch. Your playing off the Sax licks was so well done. Your solo was excellent as well. Loved the tone growly and gritty Perfect for the song Well done

Peter & Leon,
Very good write ( a little Dylanesque sarcasm in there especially in Leon`s vocals).
Lots of good lines - I really like these:

But take a look at good old spaceship earth
She may be blowing smoke but there are light years on the clock
Ignore the crazy talk about some crisis that is looming
There’s plenty more for you and me to dig out of this rock

The sax/guitar combination at the end sounds great.
Fun and educational at the same time!

Hello Peter, Leon & Janice,

What a cool song! That bass line grabbed me right off. Great licks, Peter! Leon and Janice nailed the vocals - no surprise there. I doubt there's a subject about which a song cannot be written!Very original!

The piano track was one of the best I've heard from Real Tracks. I struggle with them - they're either too thin, too muddy or too muted - even after a good massage.

Great listen - thanks!

Al-you-min-ee-um. Can't quite get aloominum. Strange how a common language can evolve and change given enough distance.

Peter, Leon and Janice,

Mighty fine teamwork indeed!!!!

The very first word that came to mind when it started was "quirky" and that was quickly followed by "great groove" and "very engaging".

Ya gotta love those Geology Times for lyric inspiration! when you mentioned that, I found myself thinking: "I wonder if this will be rock or maybe in the style The Rolling Stones or...".

You took me totally by surprise. And I learnt heaps too!

Thank you all for the journey.
