Hello, forum friends

Recently Yamaha has released Vocaloid 5.
Jim Fogle, our forum member introduces it on the following link.

http://www.pgmusic.com/forums/ubbthreads.php?ubb=showflat&Number=482170#Post482170

I tried to make a song using it immediately.
I bought an upgrade version because I have a previous version.
The biggest difference from the previous version is that it has a lot of presets that give expression to vocaloid’s singing.
Previously, it was necessary to put various expressions manually one by one, but in this version it is OK just to pick one of the presets.
The production time can be shortened considerably, but the pleasure of adjusting Vocaloid by myself is lost instead.
I cannot say exactly which is better.

Since my recent songs are not suitable for the production, I made the remake version of one of my songs written about 40 years ago.
The lyrics are in English written by myself 40 years ago, so I think that there are probably various mistakes in expressions, rhyming and etc.
Please forgive my poor English.
Any comments encouraged.
Always welcome.

Best regards.

Shigeki Adachi

Lyrics:

Please hold me and hug me
Intimately beside me
Passionately caress me
How I long for you

You’re fascinating, bewitching
Captivating, enchanting
Victimizing and tempting
Madly I love you

No more don’t tease me but soothe me
Amorously invite me
We’ll get naked completely
Let’s make love all night through

This love, it’s revolution, sensation
Satisfaction, devotion
More than passing flirtation
I will love you all my life through
Shigeki

That's the best English vocal sound I've heard from Vocaloid - a significant improvement.
The song has a nice retro vibe (from about 40 years ago I guess!).
Good stuff.

Peter
I like the original version more but the new one is a terrific example of the program.
Wonderful post! I can't comment on the vocaloid aspect, I'm not familiar with that software, however:

Lyrics:
Even from 40 years ago, one can see important basic skills here: you identified English syllables with open vowels--those are the easiest for open-throat singing, and, at the same time focused on repeating rhyme patterns. Like songwriters who have successfully attempted to write lyrics in a 2nd language, you used craftman-like care to understand the vocal sounds of certain words to make the song singable---very impressive Shigeki!

Also, several lines are slightly riske' ("we'll get naked, completely")!! But this, also, is seen when writing in a 2nd language; it's difficult to grasp the slight connotation differences between languages, so that is perfectly understandable!

Production:
I listened to both, and here is my suggestion: you should make a "duet" version! At a modulation point, introduce your original! Anyway, I liked both alot.

Thanks for sharing your work, old and new!!
Wow - this is a brilliant example of both what Band-in-a-Box and Vocaloid are capable of. It seems unjust to compare them, since they sound so sonically different. A very well written song on both of them, and by now I think you've basically mastered the Vocaloid.

You did an incredible job here - thanks for sharing with us smile
Shigeki Adachi,

Your work is always impressive. Your melody seems "immediately familiar", as good pop songs often do...

Your English is quite good!

The mix is excellent (as always). The vocaloid is good (yours always are).

Your original version reminded me of early Todd Rundgren - could have been from a Runt record. (The new version did not give me that same feeling - which was interesting).

fj
Shigeki,

An instantly appealing pop melody with impressive lyrics in your second language. The different versions are fun to compare; if I read your intro correctly, you played everything including the drums 40 years ago?
The vocaloid is good and the mix very professional on the new version...I just wondered how it would sound with your own vocal this time.

Robert
Beautiful song!! You are an amazing melody machine....always so pretty. Vocaloid is quite nice but still would love to hear a singer on this. You are really getting into the 70's with this lyric:

We’ll get naked completely
Let’s make love all night through

Kind of a Harold Melvin and the blue notes thing!

Enjoyed this a lot!! Take care. Greg
Shigeki, this is an excellent piece of music. The backing tracks fit the genre perfectly and what you did with Vocaloid totally amazes me! You are the king of synthesized vocals!
We enjoyed both versions. I owned one of those recorders also at about the same time as you.

It sounds like more than just added presets - the quality of that Vocaloid is AMAZING. It's the best we've heard.

As always your composing, arranging and productions skills are something to marvel at.

Great work!

J&B
This is a very pleasant song to listen to.

I'd suggest the following pronunciations, although there's really nothing wrong with the way it currently is. Of course, other English speakers would likely have different suggestions. As Tom said, singers use the rounder vowels anyway - a lot of the ih vowels are naturally replaced with different vowels because they're less pretty.

Intimately beside me -- "ihn-tih-miht-liy", not "ihn-tih-mayt-liy"
Passionately caress me -- "pah-shihn-iht-liy", not "pah-shah-net-liy"; "kuhr-ess", not "ker-ess"
Amorously invite me -- "ahm-er-ihs", not "ahm-ohr-uhs"
We’ll get naked completely -- "kuhm-pliyt-liy", not "kahm-pliyt-liy"
Satisfaction, devotion -- "diy-vow-shun", not "dey-vow-shun"
I will love you all my life through -- "luhv", not "lahv"

ih as in in
iy as in feet
er as in bird
uh as in up

In terms of language, I'd suggest something like "So beguiling" instead of "Victimizing" - the word has negative connotations.

There's a lot of leeway as far as grammar goes in songs, but instead of "Madly I love you", try "I love you madly". No one actually speaks like that.

Nice! smile
Very nice pop melody with 70's feel, would have been a perfect hit for movies of that time, the production feels both retro and modern (thanks to BIAB and your selection of style and instruments, of course) at the same time. How many vocaloid tracks have you used for the backing harmony?

I've also bought Vocaloid 5, but I think the editor is very slow, too much waiting after a small change, especially for my workflow when I import long midi files and write phonemes directly. Also some important job plugins are missing (like time randomize). Well, I can still use the V4 editor and do the fine tuning in V5.

Janne
Hi Shigeki
Thank you for sharing such an interesting post. I listened to the original version first. All I can say is wow! What a big difference. Loved the production on the vocaliod version. Well done!
Hello, Peter

Thank you very much for taking the time to listen and comment.
I am always very encouraged by your nice words.
Yes, I also think a significant improvement added.
However, I do not know whether I will use it frequently.

Best regards.

Shigeki Adachi
Hello, Rayc

Thank you very much for taking the time to listen and comment.
And thank you for listening to both versions.
Essentially I also prefer human vocals.
And I just would like to pursue the possibility of vocaloid at the same time.

Best regards.

Hello, Tom

Thank you very much for taking the time to listen and comment.
I am really glad you like this tune.
Thank you for listening to both versions.
And thank you very much for detailed comments on lyrics,
I think it was reckless because of youth such as writing lyrics in English.
I painfully realize again that English is very difficult today.
As you say, it's difficult to grasp the slight connotation differences between languages.
But someday I would like to write perfect English lyrics.
I am always very encouraged by your kind words.

Best regards.

Shigeki Adachi
Impressive througout.

Excellent work on the vocaloid, the technology continues to improve, that's for sure.
Hello, Deryk

Thank you very much for taking the time to listen and comment.
I am always very encouraged by your kind words.
Thank you for listening to both versions.
I think both BIAB and Vocaloid are great software. Thanks to those, I was able to bring my old music back to the present age.

Best regards.

Shigeki Adachi
Wow do I love this. Really don't know the vocaloid works but you have it mastered. What a cool song. Well done
Ok Shigeki,

I have to be honest, I like the new version, well mixed as always but I LOVE LOVE LOVE the original!!

And the picture! And the hat!! And the lyrics!!!!!

John Shigeki Lennon!!!!! Is your wife named Yoko??

Outrageously great!!!

Now we're talking!!!!

OMG!!! Love it man.

smile

P.S.

Go Tokyo Electro Acoustic Company. Go Yamaha. Go Team Japan.
Amazing , Yea amazing technology and music added together to get this.

Hard to believe this is a tech voice simulator .

A robot just took all our jobs lol.
Hello, floyd

Thank you very much for taking the time to listen and comment.
And thanks a lot for listening to both versions.
I am really glad you like this tune.
I much appreciate your compliment "Your English is quite good!"
However, to tell the truth I can hardly speak English, although I can write somewhat.
Most Japanese people are not good at English conversation. And me either.
I am always very encouraged by your kind words.

Best regards.

Hello, Robert

Thank you very much for taking the time to listen and comment.
And thanks a lot for listening to both versions.
I am really glad you like this tune.
40 years ago, neither MIDI, computer nor BIAB existed, and there was no way other than recording acoustic instruments one by one to produce music.
There were many music mates at the time, but each was aiming for another music, and I was not able to get involved in the recording of my original works quite easily.
That is why I practiced drums.
But since the drum machine was released shortly afterwards, I have not played drums since then, so I cannot play them at all now.
I am always very encouraged by your kind words.

Best regards.

Shigeki Adachi
Hello, Greg

Thank you very much for taking the time to listen and comment.
It is a great honor to be called a melody machine.
I am really glad you like this tune.
Essentially I also prefer human vocals.
And thanks a lot for your comment to the lyrics.
I am always very encouraged by your kind words.

Hello, Janice & Bud

Thank you very much for taking the time to listen and comment.
And thanks a lot for listening to both versions.
I am really glad you like this tune.
Everyone around me who was willing to produce music at that time owned Teac's 4 track multi-channel tape recorder.
I remember I also had recorded a lot of songs using it.
I am always very encouraged by your kind words.

Best regards.

Shigeki Adachi
This is just so good, Shigeki! This totally captures the sounds of the mid 70s. Your vocal is great on the original and the vocaloid on the new version is so much better than earlier versions. You have a really nice singing voice!

I slightly like the newer version (the musical background primarily). But the piano on the original is fantastic!

This was a real pleasure to listen to!

best to you.

Alan
Hello, David(dcuny)

Thank you very much for taking the time to listen and comment.
I am really glad you like this tune.
And thanks a lot for your precious suggestions to the pronunciations of the vocaloid and the lyrics.
Regarding the pronunciations, I can understand the difference of the phonetic alphabet you wrote very well, but it is very difficult to recognize the difference as sound.
Because there are only five vowels in Japanese.
I entered the lyrics for vocaloid this time with the spelling of English words as it is.
Regarding the lyrics, It's very hard for me to understand the nuance of English.
So I would like to rely on your advice entirely.
Thank you again for your advise.

Best regards.

Shigeki Adachi
Hello, Janne

Thank you very much for taking the time to listen and comment.
I am really glad you like this tune.
And thank a lot for listening to both versions.

This time I used a three-voice harmony including a lead vocal.
Certainly I also think Vocaloid 5 is very slow.
I have used Vocaloid 4 editor for Cubase.
Because, in Cubase, it can be used as a VST instrument plug-in from the start, and all MIDI edits in Cubase are reflected in V4 editor directly.
This time I also used the V4 editor for almost all the necessary processes and do the final process (only to use the preset) in V5.

I am always very encouraged by your kind words.

Best regards.

Hello, Scott

Thank you very much for taking the time to listen and comment.
I am really glad you like this tune.
It has been 4 years since I began using vocaloids, the technology continues to improve.
I would like to keep up with that progress as possible.
I am always very encouraged by your kind words.

Shigeki Adachi
Shigeki Adachi,

Truly, this is...

As Mario said, you are the king of vocaloid production. I was amazed with the clarity of Cyber Songman II. I haven't yet purchased Vocaloid but as I listen more and more to what you do with it, I'm becoming increasingly tempted!

As always, your arranging and music creating are first class. You have a wonderful gift for melody and for find the very best harmony that supports it.

In all honesty, it's always a pleasure to hear your work!

All the best,
Noel

Thank you very much for taking the time to listen and comment.
I am really glad you like this tune.
Thanks a lot for listening to both versions.
I much appreciate your commenting about not only my music and lyrics but also my picture and hat.
In those days I was still in the early twenties, I was absorbed in the music of USA and UK. nostalgic.
I am always very encouraged by your kind words.

Hello, beatmaster

Thank you very much for taking the time to listen and comment.
The vocaloid technology continues to improve.
In Japan, vocaloids have fully acquired citizenship on the WEB.
Also they often appear in cosplay.
However, they have not penetrated the broadcasting such as television and radio.
Perhaps the day the vocaloids will replace human singers may not come.
I am really glad you like this tune.

Best regards.

Hello, Alan

Thank you very much for taking the time to listen and comment.
I am really glad you like this tune.
Thanks a lot for listening to both versions.
I much appreciate your commenting about my singing.
At that time I was singing everyday so my voice came out quite high.
Unfortunately, now I cannot sing with high-pitched tone.
I am always very encouraged by your kind words.

Hello, Noel

Thank you very much for taking the time to listen and comment.
I am really glad you like this tune.
I am always very encouraged by your kind words.

It has been about 4 years since I started using vocaloid for the first time.
I registered in a forum named "piapro" for posting various vocaloid works 4 years ago.
Because I found a member who posted lots of wonderful lyrics and I really wanted to use those lyrics for my music.
That's why I had to work with vocaloids to create music.
However, I have preferred human vocalists yet at the same time.
So, most of the works I made for the forum are reproduced by appointing human vocalists later.
And while using Vocaloid, I found that vocaloid was also fun gradually.
I am sure that you will also find that it is very enjoyable if you use it.

Thanks again for your nice words.
I am always looking forward to your comment.

All the best,
Shigeki Adachi
Shigeki,

This vocaloid is fantastic and you are so good at working with it!
Must be lots of work.
We listened to both versions and your latest version is more "up to date" laugh
Great job!
