Rock song this time up, play it loud!

The Ghost of Love

The band:

1417:Bass, Electric, RootsRock Ev 100
671:Organ, B3, Background Southern Ev 120
RealDrums: NashvilleEven8^5

I'm playing the guitar parts (three tracks)

Mixed in reaper with plugins from waves and iZotope,
Mastered using Ozone8 and LMC

The Ghost of Love (2018, Chris Spruit)

keep the fire burning
kick some stone for a spark
hold the rope of my boat with one hand
and drag me out of the dark
if you tell me to call the demon
if you tell me to leave the gentle sea
I'll certainly leave
Evil mind
you sell my heart to a ghost of love tonight
of love tonight

just another word of pleasure
and a sweet longing night
in every drop of a precious moment
for the hell of a time
even I know you’re a sweet lie
And I will drown into these eyes
I don't know why
evil mind
you sell my heart to the ghost of love tonight
of love tonight

have a drink
to ease my mind
hit the clock
to slow down time
paint my picture
colourblind

Blue and evil
all the time
I cut the rope
I sell my pride
to the ghost of love tonight

EDIT: Brought up the vocal by 2db as per a suggestion from Roger and also added more reverb. Getting closer I think? Also uploaded to Soundcloud

Hi Dave,

A lovely piece of classic rock.

Great lyrics, great guitar performances, great vocals.

Mix sounds good LOUD on my main monitors. Fabulous kick drum and bass.
Maybe bring the vocals up a shade for my taste - they're so good it's a shame
not to make the most of them.

Loved it.

This has a professional quality recording to it. I like it.

Dave & Chris,

Y'all just keep knockin' it outta the park.

A cool Rock write. Good vocal.

The guitar parts are ALL nice - really nice. Love the little drums figure at 1:54. Followed by an excellent solo - very musical... the guitar work at the transition back to the vocal is super.

Excellent mix. A great listen.

I did play it loud and it had my monitors thumping. What a cool song Dave. Chris’s vocal was excellent. Your guitar work was just excellent as well. Well done

Really enjoyed the realtrack use on this song. Lovely job.

Dave and Chris,

Sounds like 1968 sneaking up on us again! Maybe a little fx on Chris' vocal (a small amount of delay) - just a thought??!!

Guitar parts are excellent - but aren't they always? Of course they are! You guys knocked it out of the park. What a terrific listen! Thanks.

Dave,
Sounds good on phones - great Hendrix-like guitar hook and Chris as always connects with her vocals.
The guitar layers and organ work well together.
Very very good!

Agree with the comment about adding a little fx to the vocal....excellent guitar work!!

Liked the overall mix, and the organ component.

Enjoyed my listen.

Great to get feedback from you Roger, you are the king of classic rock on this site IMHO! cool

I brought the vocal up 2db, also added a bit more reverb. Getting close I think. I found doing the mix on this one a bit of a challenge, for me blues is much easier to mix than rock.

Thanks again, I appreciate it!

Really sweet tune. So much good stuff in there. Especially loved that tremolo guitar that hides in the background most of the time.

nice work

Thanks, floyd smile

I've learned a lot from you about mixing and production over the last year or two, as have many others on this site. And it is appreciated!

What a tune! This is an awesome throwback to classic rock. Your vocals, the chords, the groove - everything fits perfectly into place here. The bluesy vibes here drew me in too. A top tier mixing job on this too, to boot.

Great work and thanks for sharing smile

Hi Alan,
I actually did have delay and also reverb on the vocal.
I'm always cautious about adding too much reverb, that's a rookie mistake.
But you were right, once I added a bit more it sounded much better and sat in the mix better too.
So, thanks! smile

Rock on you two! This is tremendous.

It sounds great on our monitors and I know it will on the "big" system also...look forward to that this evening.

This absolutely nails what we now call classic rock (but retaining a hint of the blues). Hits all the buttons for us.

The vocal is so strong as are the guitars...even the nuances like the tremolo. floyd mentioned the segue from the solo to the vocal...very tasty.

Kudos y'all!!!!

What a fun and catchy song Dave. Love the arrangements, guitars, vocals, everything.

This sounds like a live blues jam captured at a club.

Jam-packed full of soul man. Love that guitar!

Yes, the vocal was a little too dry. I've fixed that, sounds better now. Thanks for the comments!

Play it loud!

love that groove, especially that driving, grooving bass

very nice guitar work as always

excellent mix in my phones, super vocal

loved the break into that B3 sound

enjoyed,

Kenny

Played it loud. It's the kind of song that's hard for me to listen to the lyrics, because I get caught up in the groove. laugh

Enjoyable listen!

Thanks very much, Herb! Yeah, I didn't want that tremolo guitar to be featured too much. I thought it would be more effective if it just came in every so often instead of chugging away throughout the entire song.

Well, for me the rock that I enjoy listening to the most has a hint of the blues. And as far as my own stuff goes it will always be there, I'm a much better blues guy than a rock guy smile

Thanks for noticing the little things too like the tremolo smile

Man, I have to say how much I enjoyed this song! I thought the drums started the song to set the mood but THEN the guitar came in and really said "listen up!"

I really do like every part of the song; but want to especially say how much I enjoyed the guitar parts. You have a great hook going on and built so well around it. THEN THAT SOLO! Ohhhhh how I loved the tone and melodic choices you made. Sa-WHEEEET!

Thanks for sharing this gem. Even if we got it a little later than some of the rest of the world. wink

Dave,

To my ears this is that classic rock sound at it's very best! Your playing is superb (as it always is). I also found myself captivated by Chris's lyrics, her singing and her melody.

Everything about this sits snugly and creates a really entertaining musical feast.

I thoroughly enjoyed it.

All the best,
Noel

This is a true blue/rock arrangement of good strong music, with good strong lyrics.

Enjoyed this a lot.

Classic rock at its absolute best!

This reminded me a lot of those Mike Bloomfield and Al Kooper Albums, its that good. Great work on the vocals, drums and off course your excellent guitar chops. The mix was perfect IMHO.

Keep on rocking!

Man, talk about an underrated guitarist! Mike Bloomfield never got the credit he deserved IMHO, and he was as good as if not better than his contemporaries of the day, Clapton etc. Just a superb player! And those albums with Al Kooper were great.

Always great to hear from a fellow guitarist, thanks Mario!

Dave and Chris, what a great groove you have going on in this song! Everything about this song is pro all the way! As usual, the vocals are outstanding and the guitar work is as good as it gets! What I have a great appreciation for in listening to this song is the way you crafted your guitar work around the vocalist not overshadowing Chris but complementing with your playing! Your work inspires me to take it up a notch! Thanks, Torrey
