Hi all,
Here's a french tribute to Miles Davis between bossa and cool jazz.
Patrick Fournerat has written the lyrics and he sings.

https://soundcloud.com/christian-devienne/we-want-miles

Here's an approximate translation :

A temporary silence
swinging on the razor's edge
From your agile lips
A subtle melody
Ephemeral harmony
Brilliant as a mirror
A breath of light
comes from your funnel
Kind of blue, Silent way
Amandla, We want Miles

When the line of coke
Follows the jazz of the time
You always go on your own way
From the top of your quintet
Round midnight, Tutu
So what, We want Miles

You wore suits
with a superstar look
But your only addictions
Were your improvisations
Your notes twirl
Like a black butterfly
You sound revolt
Always to be moved
[*****] brew, Sketches of Spain
Birth of the cool, We want Miles

Chris, I really enjoyed this, The translation was actually ideal. I did get pleasantly surprised with the lines:
"A breath of light
comes from your funnel"

This is so absolutely poetic.

Class.

Well written performed and mixed.

The is a very cool tribute to "The Man."

Very cinematic also. It sets a great mood.

Enjoyed it!

Wow - some really unique lyrics on this for sure. I loved the groove, and how nicely everything flowed together. Some excellent instrumentation, and a really easy to digest song which is always nice.

Thanks for sharing smile

Dear 'Chris37' & Mr. Fournerat ...

You described We Want Miles as "a French tribute to Miles Davis...". It is that, yes, but I would say that it is a quietly impassioned love song, too.

A lover knows intimately the object of his affections, and the traits that endear him to the loved one:

“From your agile lips
A subtle melody
Ephemeral harmony
Brilliant as a mirror
A breath of light
comes from your funnel”

And what lover would not rejoice at the sound of the loved one’s endearing voice?

“Your notes twirl
Like a black butterfly
You sound revolt
Always to be moved”

The delicate, somber, and hypnotic mood that is the sound of memories remembered made your Real Tracks choices appear to have been deeply inspired, even as the notes performed on the Ujam Silk Guitar sweeten the poignancy of the lyrics. Mr. Fournerat’s unhurried phrasing of the words that comprise his lyrics remind me of how a man would answer a woman’s question, “So, tell me what you love about me!” Like Mr. Fournerat, he would answer thoughtfully, gently, spontaneously, sweetly, and lovingly, of course!

We Want Miles is the kind of song that jazz was made to articulate and express, musically speaking, and this member of the audience offers his silent applause to you and Mr. Fournerat for honoring Miles Davis in a style that I believe he, himself, would have felt quite comfortable performing in.

Hi Trev, Janice, Bud, Deryk and Loren.
I'm glad you appreciate, thanks to the translation, this poetic and intimate tribute. Christian

Another in a series of classic tracks from your partnership.
Everything is well placed and well performed.
Two things I'd address -
Sibilance is fairly aggressive in this one
and
the vocal is a little loud which emphasises the sibilant sounds.
I good guide would be to match the vocal level with that of the solo.
Excellent stuff yet again.
The translation is wonderful - an example of those rare instances where the parsing into another form achieves poetry & motion.

Cool song Christian!! I love Kind of Blue.......I first became aware of this when Robert Deniro, playing a bus driver in A Bronx Tale was listening to it while driving his bus. I thought, "Wow, what is this?". Really nice tribute.....very well written, sung, and produced!! Take care. Greg

Song delivers a wonderful feeling, even when I'm not looking at the lyrics and understanding the French. I like the nylon string guitar was very "silky". Enjoyed the listen.

Christian,

Very nice Chanson!
It sounds to me like a Boris Vian's song.
And it is a very cool tribute to Miles.
The use of trumpet is great.
Enjoyed my listen a lot.

Best regards.
