Hi everybody,

I wasn’t sure wether or not this song wouldn’t be too personal for the forum and if I should post it here at all. But there have been some very emotional declarations of love of forumm members to their wives (like recently Torrey’s masterful ‘Roll With It’), so I finally decided to present mine here, too.

Everything is pretty different from what you have heard and seen from me so far, but this is me, too.

We’ve had a terrible year and there were times when the question ‘Would you miss me?’ wasn’t that absurd at all, so this emotional song had to be written in that most emotional musical genre I’ve loved ever since: the Blues.

And, yes, there is no video this time and, yes, the song is far too long, but I wouldn’t know where to shorten it.

So here it is:

WOULD I MISS YOU ?

Wishing you all Happy Holidays and the very best for the year ahead - stay healthy and creative.

Best regards,

Stefan

======================================================

Musical details:

Basic style is _MONDOR.STY (Slow Swing Blues w/ Organ )

Bass: RT 564
Guitar: 565
Guitar: RT 569

Didn’t use the following RealtTracks in style

Organ: RT 673: replaced it by a real organ track played by my old fellow musician from the 70s: Bernhard ‘Ruppi’ Ruppersberg

RealDrums: BluesRock128: replaced by an own drum track using MTPower Drums and some fills coming with Sennheiser Drum Mic’a

Added: Back beat guitar (just threw in some MIDI chords played through Kontakt Factory Selections - Jazz Guitar)

Trombones: written in the Piano Roll Window, played through Big Fish’s Vintage Horns.

Me: Vocals and guitar solos (just using my Fender Strat Jeff Beck Signature and my old Fender Champ)

It may sound funny that Maha who is, of course, the one I wrote this song for, did all the sound editing and the mixing, but she didn’t become tired of it, so this was okay with me, too.

Like always she worked with RealBand and its reverb and dynamics plug-ins plus EazyQ parametric EQ and finally used Ozone 8 for a tiny wiff of mastering.

Hi Stefan,
For sure, you are a sentimental blues singer and also a very good guitarist.
Thanks for sharing this song. Christian

Stefan,

A touching, heartfelt song.

The guitar soloing is as soulful as the vocal.

And everything else is nicely done. Cool organ. Nice horns. Maha's mix is excellent.

Wishing you the best in the New Year...

Very cool tune . My favourite genre. Super vocal and lyric Stefan. No better way to express your feelings for someone. Some very cool guitar work as well

Amazing!

Stefan, you are excellent bluezman! I am sure many "authentic" boys and girls from New Orleans would (are) feel a little jealous. Man, I am so grateful to be one of the first ones to hear this! Stefan, thank you for being here! Happy Holidays!

Great stuff, you have the perfect voice for the kind of music you do, and the guitar was sweet. I could listen to a lot of this, but maybe not in seven minute doses. Sometimes shorter is more effective, but that's just one opinion. But what a great job you did, wish I could sing like that!
Posted By: rayc Re: Would I Miss You? - 12/17/19 07:17 AM
This is VERY cool but not as cool as hearing the other part of your voice. Have you heard/listened to Richard Clapton? he's an Australian rocker who spent a lot of time in Berlin in the 70s. His gentler stuff is very similar vocally....https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BC40QqfcLfM
Your guitar playing is/was perfect for the track - and a nice bit of "woman tone" too.
Cool, lovely, emotive and a great testament to your love.

All the best to you and Maha for the holiday season, and looking forward to hearing what you come up with in 2020!

Hi Stefan,

This is a very nice, emotional sung Blues. You let me hear it some days before. Already then I liked it mutch, I only told you to shorten it with 2 minutes. You told me you couldn't, because you didn't know what to cut. And I was wrong, I can see. This story can't be shortened. Everything is in it's place. And the emotion is very well expressed by your vocals.
I think it won't be a bad idea if you do some more Bluessongs the coming year. As long as there is no more 'blues' in your life. At least I surely hope that will happen...

Stefan,
Firstly this shows you are an excellent vocalist in this genre-timing and expression plus!
The lyrics have some clever/fun metaphors to keep the affection real... and to keep us wondering where the list of miss you`s will go next!
The guitar solos are as sweet as the song`s inspiration.

Hi TuneMonger,

thank you so much for holding on the whole song and even more for the very kind words you found. Like I had written: I knew it was very long, but really did not know where or how to make that thing shorter. The only possibility would have been doubling the speed, but I discarded that thought immediately cool

Stephan, I wouldn't care if this tune was 20 minutes long! Sometimes it takes a while to properly express yourself! Great vocal with real feeling in it! Love the band you have assembled here! Clapton never asked for permission to extend a solo and you shouldn't either! Great tune! Thanks, Torrey

Hi Ray,

first of all thanks a lot for your kind words on the tune.

Richard Clapton? Never heard of him before. Which turned out to be a pity because there wasn't one song among those I listened to after your recommendation that didn't appeal to me a lot.

Can't really judge wether or not our voices have anything in common, but if that was so, that's really nothing I would complain about cool

Wishing you Merry Christmas and all the best for 2020,

Stefan

Thank you so much, Hans, for your kind comment. And taking the time to stand the whole tune.

Well, more blues songs ... I never start with the idea that I am going to write a certain kind of song. Unlike you I nearly always start with the lyrics (or at least some ideas on what the lyrics should be about) and in the course of completing them I get the idea to what kind of music I'd like to sing the lyrics along.

On the other hand: You know we got plenty of reasons these days to moan another blues tune... ;-)))

All the very best en tot straks, vriend,

Stefan

Hi Stefan and Maha,

This is an exceptional song -- music, lyrics, arrangement, performance, mix. Everything about this is first class listening, first class entertainment and the whole thing shines brilliantly with tons of heavy-duty musical competence everywhere.

Bernhard's organ, Stefan's guitar work, BIAB's bits and pieces and Maha's mix all made me so glad that I know about this forum! I'd hate to miss out on something this brilliant!

The 7 minutes just flew by!

May 2020 bring lots of good things your way,

Dear Noel,

well, well, well (just need some time to un-blush) - that is so very kind of you, thank you very, very much for these extremly nice words.

Whenever I read 'Australia' these days those terrible wild fires which they report about over here in every news show, come to my mind. I do hope that you're not personally affected, but I know that so many of your country-fellowmen are. So my best wishes go to you, yours and all those: Merry Christmas and a healthy and happy 2020.

This is an outstanding production by any measure we can think of.

And it's all built on love and talent.

The two of us have a long relationship that makes
this song even more special.

As we've oft said soul makes a song for us irrespective of the genre.
And this production just oozes soul and sincerity...particularly with
the vocal and guitar performance. And, man, what a write!

Your use of the drums, the back beat guitar and the horns all sounded excellent
making for a stellar band.

Kudos to Maha for a great mix and how cool to have a friend onboard
for the organ part!

Superb.

Best to y'all for the holidays and new year!

Stefan...

The greatest gift us human beings were ever given, aside from the gift of life -- of living -- is our hearts, our alternately joyful, troubled, ecstatic, despairing, easily broken but endlessly repairable hearts, don't you agree? And, oh, sir, have you ever exposed yours to the listeners on this User's forum. If your song, Would I Miss You, could be judged 'too personal' for play on the forum, then it could only mean that none of us had ever experienced loving feelings as deeply as you have experienced your unimpeachable, unapologetic love for your wife, Ms. Maha. If Bobby 'Blue' Bland were alive today, I'm sure he'd want to 'cover' this lovely, intimate, sincere and bluesy torch song.

I had no idea that you could play an electric guitar so soulfully. Listening to it was like having a front row seat in the interior space you call your soul. You coaxed that gee-tar into telling us what even your committed, imaginative, and sensitive lyrics couldn't express.

What a change of venue this is! Kind of inevitable, actually, for a stone-serious, blues-rockin' musician such as yourself. Where there's fire, there's also water to cool down its heat so that it becomes a flickering warmth of the kind that makes you want to 'cozy up' to it with someone who you couldn't possibly live without. And now, I know there's as much to appreciate about you as a person as there is to revel about in your musicanship.

The rest of the crew -- Mr. Bernhard ‘Ruppi’ Ruppersberg on the organ, and Ms. Maha in the studio refining the finished production -- you can take your bows, too, for helping to bring Stefan's heart so close to our view.

Ms. Maha, you better keep this guy, 'cuz I think he's got even more to show and tell you about how he feels about...you smile.

LOREN
Posted By: Crossroads Re: Would I Miss You? - 01/11/20 07:49 AM
Deat Loren,

none of my friends would ever claim that they've ever
seen me completely speechless - to the contrary: IÄm afraid some of them have wished every now and then that I might shut up.

But this time I'm really running out of words which is the reason that it took a couple of days before I could reply to your wonderful comment.

I'm not far from turning 70 and I've made a lot of music in my life, music of different kinds and under different circumstances and, of course, I have got all kinds of feedback (not always as positive as I would have liked though...).

But I think I've never had such a wonderful reaction to a song of mine in all those years, so wonderful that I think that just saying 'Thank you' might not be enough. But what else could I say? I'm overwhelmed, flattered, excited and, yes, a bit proud, too, because I appreciate your opinion so much (as everybody on this forum does, I think!).

So thanks a lot, Loren, for the treat you made the new year begin with for Maha and me.

All the best to you,

Stefan

Simply. Fantastic. You have delivered a full on soul song with great grit and soul. Ray Charles would have swung his head around to do this. I only wish I didn't have to wear the phones to hear this, as I'd have only loved to get up, grab my baby and dance. Cheers.

What a wonderful tune, Stefan. Very creative lyrics, and a great-feeling blues arrangement, which could only be answered with YES.
