By "popular demand", I sing on this one :-)

EDIT: lowered the voice volume a couple of decibels, following the kind advice given below - hopefully it works better now? :-)

LYRICS:

I try so many days to write
I try to write a song ...
The notes, the words, they don't come any more;
I write, if right or wrong.

And I almost put my pen aside
But one thing's on my brain ...
If this was my last day on the Earth,
To you, what would I say?

I love you, every day.

And I look down at God's green Earth
Where pain does never cease
I look at you, my soul so broke
And all I want is peace.

And I almost give up straightaway ...
But one thing's on my mind
If this was my last day on the Earth
What words, to say, I'd find?

You're ever so kind ... you're ever so kind.

The night goes by, so does the day,
And, writing through the tears,
I think of what to say to you
That I haven't said in years ...

And if I never write again
If my pen I put down
If this my last breath does represent
Before to Him I bow ...

What would I say? I love you, in every way.
What would I say? I love you, I love you always.

James,

A nice song.
I like when you sing them.
The track is very nice - all the instruments are nicely balanced.
The vocal sits too far out front of the tracks. If you could get it to "sit in the mix" a little more that would help. It might be that the vocal is simply too loud compared to the underlying tracks.

Thanks floyd jane! I'm notoriously useless at weighing up the voice versus backing track balance, so yes, it's probably that the voice track is too loud. I will experiment with it in the morning! but thanks for listening and for your kind feedback!

Enjoyed it!

Yep, reverb amount, different reverbs, volume changes, eq, etc., can help with
that vocal "mix sitting." Once you nail it and as long as you are doing a
stylistically similar number you can just clone over all the settings.

An suggestion suggestion is to find a reference song you like and do back
back and forth comparos with the overall gain the same. Get that
reference in your head and go for it on your production!

James - the great leap forward.
yes, the vocal is a little proud of the mix but it's really good start.

Thanks Janice & Bud and thank you Ray!!! I will absolutely take those suggestions on board and apply them whenever possible. As I said, I don't know why I just don't hear these things straightaway ... I'm used to the solo line being more powerful than the backing track, perhaps, and it's a hard habit to shake ... maybe that's a reason why this is so. Regardless, I will do my best in future ... I'm told (and I feel it myself) that I have improved, so, with any luck, that'll continue? In any case, THANK YOU for listening and for the feedback!!!
