This song has a single C chord in it, so it's a bit of an experiment. From the moment I heard that first C chord in the Northern Rock Swing 8ths style, I just got hooked and I couldn't get free of that darn chord, and this melody was stuck on it, so I just let it go.

It's about being an outsider, with the idea of it being like a lone rider out on a trail, so the country theme fit well.

Style is _NRTRKSW.STY (Northern Rock Swing 8ths)

Lone Rider - SoundCloud

.. lead in ..

Get along, get along rider
Get along, get along rider

Get along, get along rider
Get along, get along rider

I long to not be alone
I long to not be alone

Get along, get along rider
Get along, get along rider
Get along, get along rider
You oughta see

You're gonna be all alone
You’re gonna be an outsider
You're gonna be the lone rider
Let it be

We wanna be what we believe
We all wanna have a meaning in our lives

Get along, get along rider
Get on, get alone rider
Get gone, get along rider
Get along

You want to be an insider
Don’t want to be a lone rider
Don't want to be an outsider
Let it be

Let it be ..
Let it be ..
Let it be, what's gonna be

Lone, lone, lone rider
Let alone the lone rider
You want to be in the fire
Never see another rider

You want to be
Part of something real
You want to see
Another, just another day

Let the rider be, ha-a
Hey, yeah, hey, yea
Hey, yeah, hey, hey, ey, yeah
Yeah yeah yeah

All alone

Song has a cool groove. Excellent vocal as well. Reminded me of a Doors tune

Ed,
You squeezed a lot of that single chord smile Interesting experiment, cool vocals. Thank you for sharing.

Bravo! Much enjoyed. Held my attention all through.
And perhaps a little rap would be perfect.

It worked pretty well though I'd have changed the chords for the bass so it played something consistent and from within the C chord but slightly different.
With a single chord son usually the tempo is dynamic to retain interest or the the levels change. For an hypnotic effect the texture is often developed.
I think you've created a great bed to experiment even further with.
Nice job.

Hi Ed,

Amazing what one can do with only one chord without getting dull!
I remember doing such things when I was very young. But in my case it mostly was in Em, because that was one of the two chords I had learned on the guitar till then. If you use some booz at the same time, your song only gets better and better. At least that how it felt to me back then. You did the same thing, but on a very professional base. That made this song so cool. Good job, Ed!

You have enough variations in the vocal delivery that make it work.

Good job!

Ed,

Good job. It works, for sure.

Cool song and a good vocal. Nicely mixed. Your vocal sits in there perfectly.

Enjoyed.

Ed,
A cool concept you carried through with a good vocal.
Hypnotic that endless C!

Cool... I like that crunchy sound and the groove of the song.

There's been a few one chord hits through the years. The first one that comes to mind is Run Through the Jungle by CCR... in Em IIRC.

Nice work... I'd bring the vox up at the start.

Very cleverly done and enjoyable

Hahaha. That's quite good, Ed. I couldn't help singing along with the hypnotic rhythm and your gliding vocal. Man, it moved along. But you weren't alone. Ditto on the above suggestions, but it's cool as is, too.

Oh yeah it holds the attention. The fine vocal can
take a lot of credit for that.

We like it!

J&B

PS As a bass player I'm conflicted on whether or not the bass should
play chord variances...but, hey being conflicted likely only means it
works as is smile Cool idea.

PPS For some reason it gave us a Tony Joe vibe as per his later releases.

Thanks to all for listening and the feedback. This song has been a lot of fun to work on, and it's great to hear that carried through. There's a lot of big talent on this site, and many impressive and sophisticated productions, and it's great to get a few minutes of time in that arena. Some of the comments and feedback pointed out things that I had never considered, and will definitely be useful as I continue to dabble with BIAB.

Hello Ed ...

You took great advantage of that C chord! I think you twisted and molded it in just about ever fashion you could ... and it works. Nice work!

Ed Z,

I don’t think I could have imagined trying to do a song on a single chord . . . or dared to try even if I did . . . but you pull this off, and quite well. Agree it totally has a Doors vibe to it. Good stuff!

Best regards,

Deej
