Hey all (Joe V - you in particular - you are always asking how to get synth sounds that are in popular songs ),

Berklee is offering a course called 'Creating Synthesizer Sounds for Electronic Music' course starting on November 21.

The audit version (you won't get credit, but there's no stopping you learning the topic) is FREE. Yes FREE.

I've taken 3 different music related courses from Berklee through Coursera, the free versions, and I can testify that the instructors are top-notch.

For example, the Jazz Improvisation course I took a couple years ago was taught by none other than Gary Burton.

This course is taught by Loudon Stearns - who did a great job teaching the music production course I took a few years ago.

I just signed up. We will be using the FXPansion Strobe synth to do the programming projects. There is a 90 day free trial of this synth that is part of the course.

The course details are here:
https://www.coursera.org/learn/music-synthesizer/home/info

PM me if you also sign up and we can have a sort of study group.

The Berklee courses are really cool through Coursera - and worth WAY more than free, but hey, I will take free any day of the week.

Another great resource for learning synth programming is Sound On Sound's Synth Secrets series of articles. They haven't been transferred to their new website yet, but are available here:

Hi Scott,

On the Coursera note. I did the Songwriting course with Pat Pattison and thought it was great! I hope the Synth course is good!
