I've gotten past the "missing VSCAPI.dll" problem but now I am seeing an
Application event message for "VSC32" Error Id 103

Can not open wave table file. [CSynth::LoadWaveTable() File Name:]

I believe this message is occuring on boot.
I have not been able it figure out what file is the "wave table file" or find any
information about this problem anywhere.

Hello Rick,

What operating system do you have, and what is your purpose for installing the VSC3? Also, do you have Band-in-a-Box - if so, which version do you have?

I am running windows XP SP2
Band in the box 2004.

I want to use the VSC32 for midi files in general.
For Band in the Box, the DXI version of VSC works fine.

I believe with VSC32 I can redirect the audio output to a specific audio out.
If I use the synth on my soundcard it will only render the audio via the sound
card's audio. But that's not really relevant to this discussion.

I would just like to use VSC32 for rendering midi files.

Thanks

Hello Rick,

I suggest that you try reinstalling the VSC again, like this...

1 -Uninstall it using Control Panel | Add/Remove Programs
2 -Open the Device Manager (Right-click on My Computer and select Properties | Hardware | Device Manager...). In "Sound, Video, and Game Controllers, and if the vsc is listed there, right-click on it and select uninstall.
3 -Reboot the computer.
4 -Go to start | Run ... type: msconfig
5 -Choose Selective Startup, and uncheck startup items.
6 -Press Apply, OK, and reboot (again).
7 -Once the computer has restarted, install the VSC.

Hopefully that will fix it. If not, try some of the suggestions in this FAQ topic (other than the one about reinstalling):

Thanks.

I've been through the 'uninstall/reinstall' complete with "msconfig" ritual a couple of times
without success.

I'll try the other FAQ suggestions you pointed me to.

Just curious, what file is the "wave table file" that VSC is looking for ?

Is it one of

vsc88pro.dat
vsc55.dat
vsc88.dat

I did find these listed in the registry although they weren't tagged explicitly as
"wave table file", but it appeared that was their purpose.
Also it appears that "vsc88pro.dat" is the exact size as the DXI RVI0.dat but don't exactly
compare as equal.

In any case I'll try some of the suggestions. Too bad, if I can't get it to work cause it sounds
pretty good.

Hi,

I have not seen that error message before - not sure what the specific cause of it would be. Yes presumably the "wavetable file" refers to one of those .dat files. Each of them correspond to the different sound sets available to the VSC (SC88, SC88Pro etc.). But the files are present, so maybe it's some kind of error in the registry. You are installing and using it as an administrator, correct (not logged on a limited account)?

If the FAQ tips don't help, note that you *can* render MIDI files in BB using the VSC-DXi. You would use File | Open MIDI file, then open the WAV dialog and click DXi-Direct Render. Later versions of BB also have a Batch conversion feature.

Thanks for the response.

I do have administrator privileges.

I can't seem to figure this out. I've poked at the registry and can't seem to see
anything that "looks" bad. There is an entry that appears to define the wave table file
and it looks correct, the file exists at the location specified.

I've just about given up.

If you have all the registry entries for a working install that would be really helpful
but if not, that's ok. I appreciate the effort.
