A lot of piano and guitar jazz comping sounds less clunky or blocky if you can tweak the voicings to come up with 'rootless' and 'fifth-less' variations.
If the bass is already playing these tones then why duplicate them?

What's needed is a function that's like a more targeted version of jazz-up and jazz- down where the user can opt out of having the piano or guitar part generate these notes or else have them automatically muted. You could extend this principle to any chord tone.

An option to force an embellishment in the form of a ninth or a 13th in place of either root or 5th would seem a logical extension of this idea.

Yes I know you can come up with substitutes like Asus/C for Cmaj but it would help workflow if you didn't have to constantly 'compute' this when entering chords. Isn't this what computers are for?

A well argued case. +1
