It could be nice to identify the C5 key in the BIAB mixer, the same way it is done in the RealBand Piano. See attached view.
It may be done as proposal on the bass track (the upper one ) or on the Melody track.

. useful feature
. very easy to implement with no hard software development
. could be introduced in a next patch as an Added feature.

Good suggestion. +1

I forget, can we adjust in BIAB which register middle C is? Music programs differ on what they use.

I saw George Shearing in concert once. He said he was often asked how he knew where middle C was, and he simply replied that this was easy, it was the C nearest the lock on the keyboard.

+1 for sure.

A BIG +1

I wish that all music software companies would standardize middle C.
They did standardize middle C's number at 60 but not the location of it on the keyboard.

According to the IPN, the middle C is named C4.
BIAB notes it as C5.

It also matters whether you start counting at C0 or C1.

Hence the need to adjust, to match it with what you learned, or other software or hardware you are using. But if they standardized this, it would take all our fun away. laugh

By the way, I can't find anywhere in BIAB to adjust this. Is it there?

FYI, from a Cakewalk forum :

"Basically, in MIDI (by the MIDI standard), middle C is assigned to note 60. Working down to the lowest octave that can be represented as octave 0, middle C is in the 5th octave, hence, C5.

It's not that unusual of a convention. Most (not all) MIDI notation stuff refers to middle C as C5. On a piano, it's typically C4 (the 4th C on a piano), but MIDI can go lower."

Helpful, thanks. Yes, MIDI can go lower than a piano, amazingly.

Here's a link to an interesting article that Mike Head wrote a little while back on the topic of MIDI and middle C...

I hope so. Let's see and wait !

That is in the details we recognize a professional software.

Thanks Kent for your contribution.

Since some time, we see your comment 'I'll pass this along' for some posts.
We are interested to better know your internal processes, so :

1 - Is it a new procedure set in place by PG Music ?

2 - Does that add something special to the wish ? Higher priority, ...?

3 - We can be slightly worried about the other posts (the posts you don't comment) or not, depending on your answer on point #2

Today I fired up Transcribe (nice program) and, remembering this thread, went into Settings. Transcribe lets you set what you want as Middle C from C3, C4, or C5.

Hi John-Luke,

1) Not really, just trying to be a bit more active in the forums. smile

2) This means that I've added the request to our internal list of feature requests. I'm the senior tech support representative, and not in charge of choosing which features are implemented, but sometimes when I see an idea I like, I'll comment and pass it along.

3) No, not at all. I'm far from being the only one who reads the Wishlist forums, and if we haven't replied to a thread, this doesn't mean that the request is being ignored.

Thanks
Kent

Echo that. I have conversed with you (Kent) before and you know your stuff. Having you advocate with the developers is excellent and reassuring to us.
